  1. Not wanting to join in with the piss taking on the other thread (yet) what is it you want? Someone to take it away and you will pay them £250? You want someone to pay £250 to take away a badly ringed up oak? or the wood is free to collect and the £250 is what was charged to fell a pretty big tree. I am hoping the arisings haven't left as a habitat pile in a layby near Caterham.
  2. Would that have been a dark green LR, with either Michelin XCL or Goodyear G90 tyres?
  3. A red Devon muddy shitpit on a loose shaley base is one of the slipperiest surfaces known to man kind. As someone who got a Land Rover so stuck in the bottom of a valley I seriously considered leaving it there for 6 months until it dried out I speak from experience.
  4. I miss TCD's input on here, he certainly didn't suffer fools gladly and had some strong views but offered a good insight into forestry, also greatly appreciate @Big J and the @the village idiot for their informed knowledge. And pictures, pictures are great on forums ?
  5. Not sure how many Loncin engines are coming out of China either ? I believe ryetec are the new distributors Chippers Archives - Ryetec Industrial Equipment Limited WWW.RYETEC.CO.UK
  6. £120 A day locally, plus vat and you need HIP insurance. Otherwise some places will take a deposit instead of HIP.
  7. I think @RobD used to sell them?
  8. I've heard that as well, think its a bit of an urban myth. Also heard stories about them checking the fuel filter but don't actually think they're allowed to. Cherry doesn't stain white 25 litre drums when you transfer it in them, why would it stain a metal or plastic fuel tank? If its not showing when they dip you then you've no worries. Used to know a few farmers in Devon who ran old Golfs etc on Cherry, if they were dipped and it was confiscated it was no great loss, car was usually run ragged anyway. Point to Point races are often the HMRC's happy hunting ground for dipping tanks.
  9. Pretty sure a member on here had just that for his Valtra roof mount. Might have been @Gray gitor @John Shutler
  10. Its tidy. Depending on the year and condition between 8 and 12k? Tough one to call as it is very much an arbtruck, can't be used for much else. I would love to take it off your hands but tight for space at the moment.
  11. I use a gauge on one tooth to work out what they need and do the rest freehand. Ive used the same oregon gauge for the last 10 years.
  12. Hi Pete are you on LinkedIn? it is full of shit but the Ford MD is on there and seems to respond directly to issues messaged direct to him? might be worth a try?
  13. Good to see he has been doing the same thing to his partner as he has to the Labour party.
  14. Train don't stop Camborne on Wednesdays...
  15. I use Graham Sykes modified insurance for my 110.
  16. Also known as the unprofitable for the ungrateful.
  17. I used to work for a guy with a Serra Bavaria, which had 6" wide bands. Lovely machine. We used to run about 6-8 bands on a rotation, he had a theory they needed to be rested after being used and sharpened, if they were used constantly would develop small cracks in the gullets and shortly afterwards BANG! Doesn't half make you jump when they let go.
  18. I actually like them. Replace them before the rollers get too bad. But thats just me.
  19. I have a 2014 560xp. Has only had standard wear parts, eg clutch springs, rim sprockets, needle bearings. The only constant mechanical attention is keep the saw and airfilter clean, and run green fully synth 2-stroke, either the Husky XP stuff or the Stihl HP. There may be other brands available. Alternatively if you are not so bothered about pro spec, the Husqvarna 455 Rancher is a tough little saw, have a few farmer mates who have them and have relentlessly abused them over the years, they seem to go and go.
  20. Lovely work. Sorry to derail but a local sawmill (who are not known for their generosity) sell brown oak off cheap as it is in their opinion flawed? the bloke there told me that it is a sign the tree is diseased? be interested to know others opinions?
  21. Went for over 2k on ebay I think.
  22. I have always found @RobD and chainsawbars excellent to deal with. Admittedly if you are a novice the website could be a little confusing, as there is a lot on it.
  23. But quite pricey? Honey F@@kers are nearer me and usual a bit more competitive.
  24. I see the manufacturer is still around, whats parts availability like?
  25. No. You may be asked for HIP insurance, (hired in plant) - this may or may not be covered under your public liability. However several of my local plant hire companies just lock up about £500 on your card instead. (Don't think they actually take the money, just its"spoken for") Prices will vary but local to me you can get a 6" Forst for £120 a day plus HIP and Vat. Some will charge you a sharpening fee of 20 quid or so, I don't usually get charged this as I look after their machines and don't put metal or gravel through them. There is a chipper ticket under Lantra I believe, not done it myself, learn't ont job as it were. Probably some of the bigger companies on here have to have them as part of their insurance, however I believe if you are competent you will be fine. If you have never used a chipper it would be worth looking at doing a course, or when you next do a job, contact a smaller local tree surgeon, get him to do the job at a day rate with your assistance and learn from him.
