  1. Elm, seen in Brighton yesterday. BN1 postcode, was one of many I saw, how do they know they have DED? genuine question not an eco/enviro fueled rant. Also whats the idea behind ring barking it and leaving it standing?
  2. beat me to it ? I didn't notice the the 3/8s bit, yes agree.
  3. 15" bar is ideal for 346, I'd go for a semi chisel chain if you are cutting dirty wood, if you go to chainsawbars.co.uk they have a range of bars and chains to fit the saw. Look to replace the rim sprocket as well as the saw is secondhand it is likely to be worn. As for porting, its probably not necessary if you are a part time user, however it does really enhance the saw, I had a 346 recently ported by @spudulike on here and it is really impressive. Steve also does more than just port, he sorts out any other issues the saw has, returns it rather better than new tbh.
  4. @Squaredy @nepia a similar but slightly smaller Cedar in Cuckfield, West Sussex.
  5. Bit far from Sussex. Either Stubbys Cruise missile/.308 will have it down shortly, or use something like 50gms of 0, I hope you have a semi auto or you will have a sore shoulder!
  6. Where is the tree, if its near me I'll come a have a go?
  7. Having got bored on a few drey bashing sessions and messed around dead wooding oaks, and also knocked a lost throwbag off a high limb with a .410, I would say with a tight choke and a heavy load you might manage it, but you will be taking quite a few shots. Presumably it's not in a built up area?
  8. If you look closer there are some saw marks on the bark. Using a handsaw (or heaven forbid a topper) with a bit of care you can avoid scarring the tree.
  9. Theres a new model out, as you would know, been a rash of the old ones on ebay lately which brings them down a bit, 2-350 I would reckon. 346's make better money tbh.
  10. They do come up on Ebay, good condition pro saw like that should be worth around £300?
  11. Difficult to tell from the photo, but provided the bark/cambium is not damaged the tree will be fine. The Ivy should wither and die, and will be reasonable easy to strip off. Again, it is hard to tell from the photo but IMO looks a good job. On closer inspection looks like they may have damaged the bark a bit, but not that seriously from what I can see. It is a tricky job, the bark has not been removed from what I can see.
  12. I did the abseil down the Spinnaker at Portsmouth thing, with a young lad celebrating his exams, (he paid, pots of money) the rope they use is noticeably smaller and bouncier, especially when you get about halfway down, would be pretty difficult to work off tbh.
  13. Jack, not a personal attack here, but having cleared up the mess left behind at that job in Croydon for you, and seen a thread on here where you "dismantled" a pine, I think you should get some tickets and do some work for a reputable tree company to gain some useful experience.
  14. How do you get on with that skidsteer? anymore photos?
  15. probably needs a new primer bulb. simple fix, can be easy to overlook.
  16. I have a 2011 Ifor 12x6 tipper, if there's juice in the battery it tips. Have had some rather silly loads on it and it just keeps going.
  17. Sssshh don't give away my secret talent...
  18. Treehog stuff is generally a bit shite. I have used the stein one, it is excellent, very well made, very well engineered, designed by one of if not the best climber alive, @RC0
