  2. NE EA FC thats 3 which are as much use as a chocolate fire guard. produced to sort things out and all thats happened is they have grown top heavy with the troops on ground being got rid of to pay the high wages of the elite few who are supposed to run these qangos. the lot want shelving or they need a big shake up to get rid of those who have not got a clue on how to run there departments. but never happen unless they upset there minister. look at the top of EA the flack he got did he go did he eck still in his job. unless you have a goverment which listens to the population which they will not it carry on stumbling on making gaffs after gaffs and saying o will have to amend that bill to reflect this
  3. ifany one is interested this saturday the 6th at tichbourne park nr alresford well signposted have a stand near to members tent. and i believe JIM E will be there with riko machines good little show. if you do come looks us up and have a cuppa or something stronger hampshire screach. cider. may see some of you there
  4. its crazy why do we need a tax and a major office block holding those who run it. as other countries each year you have to get a new number plate on it it has the insurance details no insurance no plate. simples the tax was introduced to pay for roads and how much from the revenue got from tax discs goes back into the roads 2%. its a total joke and they then come up with this new white elephant. those in whitehall would make good comedians if it was funny its not.
  5. well i rang the groundie last night to confirm todays work no reply so left message no call back rang him this morning same again left message. i then rang him again at 8am no reply. now 10.30 no call or text have a job and now had to rush around to get some help but lost two hours of the day. not a happy bunny at all. find out what happened as he is good as gold so bit strange. and like to use him when he is not busy with others.
  6. was reading a article the other day re the phasing out of the tax disc and paying electronic but with no paper disc which comes into force 1st october. but then reading more the tax on vehicle if sold can not be transferred to new owner and the vehicle has to be taxed by new owner before he can use it legally on the road. any tax left over by old owner has to be got back from the DVLA. what a total dogs do da yes get rid of tax discs but the rest if its taxed its taxed to have to do all of this. if caught without doing it £1000 fine so be prepared from the 1st as VOSA and police will be out in force to implement it
  7. were are you based that would help. but for a good brush cutter course Tony Derbyshire training. very good course and you get your lantra certificate to boot. days training do a lot out in field and try different lines and blades. learnt a lot and recommend it based in andover hampshire
  8. all the above post looking at that engine i would get it checked out by a experienced outboard engineer. last thing you want is to be stuck out at sea. or get a new susuki 4 stroke friend works on a marina and has similar boat to yours and thats what is going on his. but get a VHF radio do NOT relies on a mobile they do not work at sea. as other posts flares, etc and life jackets. i have been out in the solent in a boat not unlike yours fine when we went out it turned nasty we had the tide againts us and it was ripping the waves up she was digging in and water was coming over her. was glad to get in. the sea has no friends respect her and your be safe. but go on some courses worth every penny. suprised RNLI has not posted on this subject he would help
  9. is he any good when he does work if he is just say that having mondays off is not on and his excuses are not on say if he does it again then he can find a new job. if he not much cop look for a new groundie.
  10. sorry to hear this looks as if its starting again now evenings drawing in. hate to say but i think its in a transit and in europe now or in a container to be shipped out abroad. the in thing at mo is chewing gum being stolen. taken loads from supermarkets and being shipped to europe as its expencive over there
  11. there shoud be adjustments between flywheel and coil if its to big will not get a spark the coil should be slotted so you can adjust it. as gardenkit try a screwdriver on flywheel magnets see if it will stick a screwdriver to it. you can get a spark plug tester looks like a spark plug wich when you pull the engine over flashes to say if you have a spark.good bit of kit to have. you say it went bang and backfired. as other post take flywheel off and check key more than likely it has sheared so not keeping flywheel in place correctly. they are only ali so do shear. only pence from a mower shop. be interested to see.what the problem is i reckon the key has sheared.
  12. +1 i was kicked out of school at 14 with nothing. over the years i have learnt on the job paying to go to college to get qualifications. and having worked with those who have more qualifications than hot dinners may have the brains but very little common sense. may be able to put it down in writing but when it comes to put it in action have not got a clue. i am allways ready still to learn from those who have been there got the badge and can do the job. never to old to learn from the wise ones.
  13. well i am 60 in 3 weeks and before i started working for myself some 4 years ago i was overweight had a bad back had sciatica and been to pain clinic which was no use. i then was redundant so needed work so became a parish lenghtman and started getting more hedgelaying. yes my back is not brill but the pain has gone nearly i fill fitter should pack up the fags have lost nearly 4 stones and outside all the time. i wish i had done it ages ago. as for sproggs work on my own most of the time those who do work with me are ok do not use the mobile when working. but i know what its like seeing my daughter its pinned to her ear
  14. are you going to Nats Rover as on your doorstep
  15. so its no2 which are the best ones as dorset was asking was it I or 2 rover has spoken its 2. get hold of firm dorset see if they will give you a free pair as mine are as good as new and i was working them hard last season. was looking at getting a second pair just in case but if they are as good as they are now do not need a second pair. looks as if they will be the fashion accessory of any hedgelayer:biggrin: mine are essential part of my kit be lost without them. thanks Rover for your recommendation nearly a year ago
  16. its turning colder as its cold on mower have had to have coat on to mow. start first hedge 15th. then on to next year. need to get more work for summer not been that good workwise this summer. but to late to apply for mowing work as a council srewed me up big time saying i had a big contract then deciding to award it elswere. left it to last day before new contract started to say what was going on. as they say do not keep eggs in one baaket. want to do melplash. want to do Nats but still trying to get wife to come. needs a break if not if theres a spare seat going pay towards fuel. like to enter
  17. all wrong trying to get it cheaper as other posts when they ask for a quote thats the price. if they want it done by bodget and scarper and get a bad job fine. it should be as with councils get tenders or quotes in. (should happen) envelopes not opened untill meeting prices are looked at and who is quoting then decide who they want to do job thats it end of jobs the one who is acepted. not going to find a cheaper price. and it should be the same for private customers.
  18. if its a pico chain then they will not do them only does the larger chains. get a oregen 12volt chain sharperner can then touch it up in the field do a good job. looking at getting a new one for this season saves filing.
  19. its on the list of coppicers this show Dorset was there demonstrating hedgelaying. if like any of the other shows i have been with Dorset puts on a good show of hedgelaying and its history. there is a good small show this Saturday Zion Hill Chandlers ford never been this year demonstrating but has good feedback on what a good show its is. so if local come and have a gander.
  20. i have seen the blec in action at saltex good machine drawback the amount of stones it leaves to be collected. as other posts BCS with a cultivator stone burier. with a seed hopper on it if grass is removed first one pass maybe two jobs done will be flat no stones as buried which will help with drainage take the stones away no drainage you then have moss problems. i need to do my lawn and thats the way i will go cultivate and bury and seed much quicker. tried stone picking my bit and got two dumper loads out. gave up as a bad job hate to think how many a blec would drag up
  21. NO1. i have 2 and 3 and Simon made no 4 on back of yours and my two. but what a hook can not wait to use it may make the chain saw redundant for most jobs. save on fuel. now waiting for hand adze and round shave to be made.
  22. my sweep charges about same but i get a certificate from him to say chimneys clean. member of the guild of chimney sweeps and a member of HETAS so with a wooden bungalow need to make sure its done properly for insurance
  23. everest construction Houghton nr stockbridge firm still going but do not do wheelwright any more was lucky to see them making the wheels in the late 70,s, and the jack hargreave programmes are on youtube. as for the iron wheel when it is put on wooden wheel it has to drenched in cold water to stop burning the wood and make it shrink on to wheel. its one of the old crafts that very few people still doing. even though driving is making a come back. to get a pair of new wheels made looking at a thousand pounds plus lot of work to make them.
  24. i have booked my hedges to start 3rd week of september trust leaves will be starting to drop. and trust we have a normal winter this year. not the extremes of being to cold or to wet like last year. and have my new yorkshire to try out. need to get a photo put up as Simon made a cracking job. one of 4 made so far. Dorset having no 1
  25. £100 a month bit steep i bank with nat west and i moaned about being charged £35 per month. as for santander well i would never bank with them again. when santander took over aliance and Leicester it went down hill big tme. if you want good service your own manager who will come out to see you. then coutts drawback have to be nominated by a customer who banks with them and need lots of money.
