  1. Thanks for all the input guys Am i not right in thinking that ARC is harder than MIG? In terms of learning etc. I have used a couple of welders in the past, one used sticks (guessing ARC) and the other had a wire feed but no gas, guessing MIG? With regards to the point above about spending a little more i can see the sense, both the above machines i used were very cheap and difficult to setup as a result. Main uses would be for general repairs, making brackets etc the end results would need to be pretty but functional.
  2. Been meaning to learn the art of welding now for over 15 years so looking for some advice. Had a couple of attempts in the past using a very cheap Mig welder and gave up, I have someone do all my welding now and would like to save on the cost and learn a new skill. Looking for some pointers to get me started, budget would be about £150-£200 (although less would be good!)for a new or second hand machine, gas or gasless? I have mains power from a normal 13amp socket but thats it.
  3. Thats the part that would put me off, remember airfix decals as a kid and they were fiddly enough!
  4. Whilst on magnetic signs... any idea of how powerful the magnet is? Was looking into getting writing on the sides of my 110 hardtop but its aluminium so would need a steel plate in the inside of the truck, dont wanna pay out for them and then find they wont stick! Also like the idea of being to remove the writing as i use the vehicle for thinsg other than work.
  5. Rough ideas of weight?
  6. 1994 transit - 68k ( genuine ) 110 hardtop 187k ( factory engine )
  7. Indeed! Been some fine weather today, t-shirt all day
  8. Both of the transits I have had came with Brit tipp tippers from the factory, one of them was 18 years old and still in excellent shape. Seem to be well made.
  9. Ditto, great video.
  10. Heard theres a Green Unimog coming up for sale soon that needs a little TLC, something fishy about it though......
  11. I prefer it yes, Think when XP came out... everyone hated it, now its hailed as the best OS MS has ever made. With regards to signing into a MS account, it just like logging in everytime you switch it on BUT once your in your emails and files are synced and backed up, I can log in elsewhere and get at all my stuff. Saves hassle. Also boots in seconds. I have it installed on my gaming rig and it noticeably faster and smoother than when i ran win7. Glad i took advantage of the £7 offer when i did
  12. You can download windows 7 legally and for free online. Then ask around for a working serial code, know anyone that works in a large office for example? In fact i have some win7 serials written down somewhere. Then reinstall your older version of office onto that, none of this will cost a penny. For the record i use win8.1 pro, bought in the first week of it coming out when microsoft had it on offer for about £7. Its bascially win7 but with a different front end (skin), its faster than win7 in all the bench tests etc 5 mins worth of tweeks and it can be made to look and operate the same as win7 or XP for that matter.
  13. Agreed, after 6 months work its going to be worth half that value and the auction hasnt even finished yet. Good 200's do come up often on ebay for a good price, often badly listed using a title just like "chainsaw" etc which will limit the hits to the ad. Got both of mine for under £200 each, one came with new bar and chain. Crazy money for 200t, wonder what it will go for?
  14. Not an option either. Gateway / side access is then followed on by a double garage.
  15. A fair old drive! Whats your machine out of interest? Seems a handy size for a track. House must be worth 800k easy, big plot of land but brick walled in on all side apart from the 2ft gate!! Back to basics on this one again it seems! Thanks for the tips chaps.
  16. Can imagine the phonecall...... "Er hi boss... Think we may be a bit late getting back to the yard..." " whys that? " " Because we drove about 40k's worth of your kit into a river "
  17. I did have on old saw of mine but it seems they cant be sharpened with a normal file, my local shop wanted about £25 to sharpen due to needing a diamond cutting stone for the job. Might look down this root again though Yeah might send them some pics and get a price, did think they did mainly 'run of th mill' type grinds but no harm in trying. Yep the last big stump like this ended up with just us mad at it with saw's wedges and axes, was a hell of a lump mind.
  18. Hi all, Looking for some advice/tips as how you guys deal with large stumps from windblown trees? Had a bit of a ballache with one recently with a Euc stump/rootball which stood approx 5ft high when on its side, multi-stemmed and filled with sand/dirt, no access for a digger or grinder. Took us 2 days sectioning off small pieces and carting them round to the front of the house, cleaning each section to prolong chain life. I thought to myself i would ask on here before tackling the next one, and just been round to quote yet another windblown euc ( forth one in 1 1/2 months). So yet again its multi stemmed, twisted as it fell 3/4 of the rootplate above ground. 2ft side access ( yes 2 foot) so no access for a digger or grinder. The tree although large, we can clear in a day easy, just dont want to be spending days on removing the stump. So solutions? how do you guys deal with these situations? I did think about taking my jetwasher to attempt to clean it better before sectioning it up. Crane it over the house = Expensive (large house so would need very long boom) As said access is very tight so its got be sectioned up just to get it curbside. Thoughts?
  19. Some of the comments are amusing
  20. Yep, Lady Lane I believe. https://plus.google.com/103298483373205230359/about?gl=uk&hl=en
  21. You Bastards:001_tt2:!!
  22. Worked wonders for me, ordered 12,500 a6 leaflets for about £60. I found a couple of polish guys delivering local takeaway menus and got mine delivered with the menus for about £7.50 per 1000. Following that I arranged leaflet distribution for a couple of other peoples businesses making sure no more than 4 different trades went into each door at a time. I charge the other 3 people 1/3 of the delivery rate per 1000 and now get mine delivered for free. I also use the other methods mentioned above but the leaflet campaigns have been the most successful for sure.
  23. Made me itch just looking! Evil little critters.
  24. I thought the chatroom lagged really badly last year for the draw? Maybe an IRC channel would be better for this years draw.
  25. Thanks for the tip, less than a 5 min drive from base. Will get in contact with them
