  1. expensive!...... was quoted £500.00+ Leave it chained to a tow vehicle with trailer policy. Steve
  2. 30 mpg...... thats the L/rovers out then! Steve
  3. Would not be parted from my Mewp, as a tow vehicle for the chipper or a safe set of ladders....... Do hire out for access work (and pay extra insurance) with owner only policy.
  4. Ps: What do expect for £350.00 aday!!!!
  5. Agh! should have expected that...... did think about puting 1 hours work, but thought the customer might wonder what else I'd been doing. Glad you are not my boss though:001_tt2: All that shiny paint makes it a tad slow.
  6. Just finished for the day. Not had time to re-apply polish yet!
  7. Hi David, Crane pads! You have choice of thickness & area size which increase with tonnage. I have bought a few sets over the years and some recently (advertised on e-bay, Birmingham I believe)..... They are sold in pairs & not cheap! I carry 4 on my Mewp. Steve
  8. As Dean points out.... if the specs all match a smallish engine can exert high pressure with good cycle times. Just purchased Wallenstien 980 eu @31 ton force from the Honda 270. Not been able to lift what it cannot split! Steve
  9. I believe the anti-waxing agent is added has the supplies and colder period arrive and not in 365 days a year... maybe old stock? I stand corrected if anyone knows better. Steve Ps: apply gentle heat to tank (with fire like we used too!!!)
  10. I can vouch for that..... you could choose which A&E you were attached to. Steve
  11. Hi there! If the log book the vehicle is registered as HGV/Tower crane, then no 'O' licence is required. Tacho must be calabrated and used. White derv. Mot exempt. HGV licence is required, trailer must be connected with mewp operation... not chip/ifor etc! If it registered as HGV goods then an 'O' licence will be required. Steve
  12. Is that the airfield and the hangers!!! quite clearly more than the average... Can You give us an idea of what if I could/would afford it it would get and roughly where in the country. I pay £350 p/month thats for 2 containers (mine) parking for mog, chipper, trailed splitter, trailers and unlimited use of secure clean yard (logs, shared a little with owner).... Steve
  13. Make sure its attached to your vehicle at the time of purchase. Remember the saying 'if it seems to good to be true'. Yes, there are bargains to had..... most of them are in this country and you can check on them. Let someone else pay the shipping/import, let them worry that it may not exist. Steve
  14. Wondering how many small business owners on here are taking out £500.00 a week (40 hs) without the worry of finding,, doing and running the business. I know £100.00 p/d isn't setting the world on fire, but on a regular basis its over a year without running vehicles and such like. As small businesses we all have good days and good earners, but I am looking at the average...... Steve Ps; Sat morning, just doing paperwork, then off to grease chipper!!!!
  15. Tend to get most from the chipper dust.... I have come up with a answer, better than glasses though these do help..... get someone else to to chip:001_rolleyes:
  16. Hi there! don't know much on the carving front.... but my hydraulic saws are very slow speeds in comparison to small 2 stroke saws. I would imagine this would drag the wood rather than carve.
  17. Hi there! That is a pretty big winch and would cope with most day-to-day work (excluding, maybe heavy forresty applications) I have a Ramsey 8000 rph hydraulic on front and warn 16.5 electric on rear.... The electric is faster when you need it. Also you can move the vehicle as well!.... be carefull on the battery requirement neede for that size. I have wire on all vehicle winches, its cheap & cheerfull. It does need a bit more thought, though still very workable (good gloves req.) Steve
  18. Hi there! years ago I had a verge near my newly concreted apron entrance (west yorks). I placed large stones (18" talllish) to deter bus and large trucks running on it.... The council told me to remove them, stating any damage to vehicles would render me liable. This was West Yorkshire in the seventies..... might have changed in the last 30 odd yrs. Steve
  19. I am a small business, with a mog, thinking what I would do or think if I went to the customers home where I have just left the mog & chipper to face what you have just found...... Dismayed, furious, these do not come close.... Like you say, its not just the obvious cost, its the loss of vehicle, trust, and a whole stack more. Be strong fella, its only a very small number of mindless idiots. Most of society, like all on here, cannot believe the depths the criminals will stoop to. Once again sorry that this has happened, hope you are back on the road supping lots of diesel soon! Steve
  20. my wheel clamp isn't going to stop them then!!!!! Steve
  21. Sorry to hear of the theft.... do you have any info as to the actual method of theft. Steve
  22. Obviously very apparent that there variants. This said, it shows that it is realy important for operators to ensure that they apply the rules for their own vehicle in there own enviroment.... Just because you have knobbly tyres and four wheel drive does not give entitlement to rebated fuel. Steve

  25. This where the haze starts! firstly, safety equipment???? I cannot imagine that there would be a long discussion on that, as long as you don't carry these items for sale & reward. The load/trailer use is limited directly to use of crane. Tower cranes can tow (white derv/tacho cal) If you want other cranes to tow or not you would lose rebated fuel catagory. I do carry winching & equipment in my lockers though on all jobs I have l/r & chip trailer with the main kit. Steve
