  1. This where the haze starts! firstly, safety equipment???? I cannot imagine that there would be a long discussion on that, as long as you don't carry these items for sale & reward. The load/trailer use is limited directly to use of crane. Tower cranes can tow (white derv/tacho cal) If you want other cranes to tow or not you would lose rebated fuel catagory. I do carry winching & equipment in my lockers though on all jobs I have l/r & chip trailer with the main kit. Steve

  3. I spoke to the 2 customs & excise inspectors briefly.... the first thing they do is 'dip' if red is found, then entitlement is confirmed or not. typical entitlement; a) forrestry or ag as business source b) category of vehicle on reg docs. Mine is 'Hgv tower crane' . therefore white derv, tacho calabrated & used, no mot, can tow trailer connected with work of crane. If the category on docs is 'Hgv goods' or 'crane' then derv & trailer or not rules apply. Cherry pickers are 'tower cranes' if there weight makes any odds I don't know, the type of work you do with them does. Steve

  6. Hi guys, Just a little reminder.... Parked up yesterday afternoon in Tesco (Macclesfield) car park getting coffee. Returned to mog & chipper to find Customs and Excise dipping my derv tanks on Mog. I only do domestic/commercial tree work therefore I have no entitlement to use rebated derv..... Beware the user of 'red' that it is used in the right enviroment!

  9. I have the 150 bandit and wouldn't swap it for any other.
  10. I power the Stanley & Fairmont pole saw from the 'tool' hydraulics @ 20 ltr flow... I use the JCB beaver if I can't get a vehicle or my mewp bucket to a position to use. The largest bar I use is 14"....though I know you can get a lot larger. I'm sure the gents on here will know. I missed two saws with decent size bars on ebay a short while ago. I am also on the lookout for a 'large saw' if you find one been offered. Steve
  11. I use hydraulic saws and run them fm power packs and fm vehicle hydraulics... These are great, but pricey for a system. The Stanley CS 6 is running a 14" bar, but this is very powerful bottom end torque. Steve
  12. Contacted Arbtalk member "Globalnewark" by this site on Sat eve with a chipper consumable problem. Narrowed the cause on here on Sunday eve. Van with man out to site on Monday! lost no time whilst on Tom2020 contract work. Nice one Dean and nice system Arbtalk!
  13. Even if my brain told my fingers what to do, my eyes couldn't see it anyway! .....though can still hear a good tune. Hope you get one soon Steve
  14. If you want any or said benifits you will attract attention and will be checked to see if you are you using for Ag. If its Ag for domestic/hgv goods & reward avoidance then a second truck to replace the 'taken' maybe necessary. As a ex truck owner, now arborist, I could not show just reasons for any Ag vehicle.(Yes, I can have, but not on Ag operating class) I must admit though I only do domestic/commercial. If I had forestry and farming on my books it maybe different. The Unimog I have is on white derv, tacho cald. There is no confusion or grey area. It is the style of work that the vehicle is employed on as well as the vehicle style/make/model. It is known for vosa/authorities to look at paid invoices to see vehicle usages. Milages away from base etc. Trailer usage may well be limited if changes to taxation classes are done. I think John P summed it up. Be careful about what gains you think you will make. Steve
  15. Where does the oil go! Better you than me, said with awe...
  16. If noise is an issue then best they don't drive the Landy. It would great to hear my new BFG's!
  17. I agree. Hoping the gents that booked me for work in April, then disappeared leaving me with a 'gap' take note! Steve
  18. I must be getting old...... I clearly remember them, whats worse used them!!!!
  19. Big thank you to the guys who offered their thoughts on the mog not turning off on the key. The teddy-bear in this instance goes to "gensetsteve" who was on the button. The alternator was refurbished (has it wasn't charging) and diodes replaced, mog now stops on key again!!! Steve
  20. Sounds pretty good and about right. td5 running heavy and full chip trailer can't be far off! all chargable and deductable. Steve
  21. should read; winch for sale with mog attached!!!
  22. Just look at the positive side.... you now can get another one!!!!! ....all part of the 'wheel of life' but comiserations on your loss all the same! Steve
  23. I'm hoping that fitting the new alternator does the trick... just arming myself with a little more knowledge if it doesn't. Steve
  24. Alternator due back on early next week. After refitting I will try the technical "extra to the manual, but likely to work" techniques Thanks Steve
  25. Bought a LWB crew cab tipper last year 2003 3.0ltr. Put new gearbox/clutch/flywheel in it. Really liked it, but then needed new back diff (£2500) so off it went, sold it with the problem known to a guy that sent it to Poland with a recon back diff. Nice truck, just couldn't keep up with it in and out of garage. Lots of space, cheap on derv, light on rear with no load. Be carefull on payload, I think mine could carry a bag of air, and still be overloaded! Steve
