  1. Good for you, but I hope you told them to tell anyone who asked that they were charged - select your reasonable daily rate - for the work
  2. Hi I work in IT, unfortunately its a trait of the industry that you get plagued with nuisance sales calls such as this. Just politely ask them to remove you from their call list or you'll post on - select social network of choice - that they are annoying buggers That usually does the trick
  3. But, the leave as is option already works, those who need monitoring are being monitored, criminals & the like being quite easily caught. All you achieve by publicly making a fuss about this is drive the criminals, paedos and terrorists to use ultra secure, anon services such as Tor via VPN & Im sure a host of other similar services will pop up faster than they can be blocked.
  4. Thank you, to demonstrate a point, I reply from a UK IP address 81.168.***.*** - Eclipse Internet - but Im really in France tho. Its the politicians whose communications need monitoring, in my opinion. I daresay there will be public disconcert, followed by a large amount of money being spent to find out it will deliver very little real benefit & be shelved. No dounbt the consultancy firm involved, let me guess will be Capita otherwise known as 'Crapita' and sluice yet another large pile of tax payers money into its account with its consultants dined at The Ivy until theyre fat & bored with the menu.
  5. Amazing how politicians inflict sanctions on Iran, North Korea - select regime of choice in the name of 'democracy' but act in exactly the same manner when dealing with their own electorate. I doubt it very much that even if correctly implemented, which government IT projects never are that it would prevent anything as even the most computer illiterate terrorist has heard of PGP and strong encryption. People who value privacy will use VPNs that guarantee 100% security & privacy using military grade encryption to access offshore servers for their mail. And as for the "Ive got nothing to hide and thus nothing to fear" brigade, this is a myth built on false assumptions.
  6. Hi How about using a Sabre saw? N
  7. Hi I dont know any female Arbs, but have the greatest respect to those who are N
  8. Hi Welcome, good luck with your resettlement, Im sure you will get a lot of good advice here. Personally, I would be cautious when considering any 'start up' type loans in your new business & justify any expenditure that you make.
  9. Hi all, Met some friends, had a few drinks Was having a large burn up, so cooked spuds in foil, beans in the tin and sausages on a pan in the hot ashes. Nice watching the sun go down across the valley, sat in front of the embers with some wine sometimes, its the simple things that are satisfying N
  10. Hi I think you need to get your facts right, a trade 10% away from the norm halted trading, not the other way round. Apple briefly halted after trade tripped circuit breaker N

    Fuel Strike

The national minimum wage is £6.08 ph for workers age 21 & over. There does not seem to be any threshold for benefits David Cameron attempted to limit it to 26K per anum, but got rejected. 26K is £13.33 for a 37.5 hr week 52 weeks a year & this assumes no revenue take. Cant see the point of working if the benefits pay that much. (dont get me wrong, Im not a sponge, worked all my life but the maths dont make sense any more) N
  12. Hi, Sounds like a scam to me, people dont buy stuff without viewing N
  13. Slightly off topic, but I used a black MacBook for 5 years and hammered it, after which I still got a good price when I sold it. My son also used his every day through university for 3 years & eventually parted with it after over 5 years, PC laptops just dont stand up to this sort of use. Macs are difficult to justify the purchase price, until you've owned one. Our entire family use Macs of some sort now & being an IT pro its wonderful that the once busy 'free support line' is now very quiet.
  14. Me too, I dont really use a mobile any more, my old iPhone makes a great alarm clock, its also got Doom on it which plays really well and a few fart apps. So use what ever works best for you, people resent being told what they ought to be using anyway, if it does the job then fine & if some people saw what a Mac Pro would cost they'd probably pass out, but I wouldn't change it for anything as it works uber fast & perfectly, earning some of my daily bread.
  15. Hi Probably in a downward spiral since takeover by Lloyds, I use Santander for my biz, they're not perfect (but who is these days & to be honest I dont trust banks as far as I can throw them) but the on-line side of things works very well.

  18. Hi We made a similar life changing move just over a year ago & have not regretted it at all. Dont let trivia upset the apple cart & keep focused on your objectives. Oh and you need a .50 cal for the midges in July & August! Et bon chance, mon ami! N
  19. Hi, Hope it all works out, just looked at the source of your website, nice layout but could do with some meta tags in the head section. N
  20. OK, I dont expect you to believe any of this, but some time ago my wife & I attended a mess dinner at Culcreuch Castle, we stayed in the Chinese bird room, named after its hand painted wallpaper. During the night, I was awoken by the most beautiful music I have ever heard, I was semi awake, but did not want to move in case it stopped. I could see the glowing outline of what looked like a woman with a man playing the harpsichord, the music was completely enchanting & I listened to it for some time. The next morning, when we went down to breakfast I was discussing the event with my wife, who had also experienced a similar apparition, call it what you like. The waitress then explained it was a ghost of a woman who had an affair with a musician who had been throw out of the window to his death by her husband, just a pair of wee ghosties. We were quite surprised and thought, no its just a story, then our friends came into the dining room & asked if we'd heard some music during the night. N
  21. Hi, if you refer to the revolver the stainless dosnt quite look like a Smith & Wesson, perhaps the auto is, but very nice collection of guns, well done. I used to really like the S&W 686 .357 magnum, but firing a 38 special which has a lot less recoil.
  22. For those who are interested in AV for Mac, Sophos provide it free, however whilst Sophos is one of the best, like most other AV software its signature based so reliant on updates and no AV program will detect all of the 200,000 or so x86 viruses & variants that infect PCs. IMO the reason to install AV on a Mac is so you dont unintentionally pass on virus infected e-mail to your PC using friends. A slightly different approach to security would be to use MacScan to scan for hostile cookies - but you can set FireFox to dump all cookies on exit, use the NoScript add on in your FireFox browser and/or use 'Little Snitch' to limit outgoing connections. Ultimately no computer connected to the internet can be fully secured but utilities like these will make it much more secure. N
  23. been 44 for the last 9 years, so that'll be, um 53 my washing machines is older than quite a few here, its 25 and a bit I think anyone over 50 should have mandatory membership of grumpy old men
  24. Hello, We have an ancient 300Tdi, its a 2.5L 4 cylinder engine. There is a second gearstick so you can select low ratio and/or difflock which is desirable in snow or off road. Ours seems to do quite good mileage on the rather nice roads around here, dont expect it to go very fast, but it tows a large trailer with ease & can carry a lot of stuff. The underside body mounts & the bit around the door sills rust easily, also check the side roof windows - they can leak water which ends up rotting the boot floor pan. But you can always practise your welding! If you get a diesel check the cam belts been changed recently as thats disastrous if it breaks. Parts seem reasonable, theres a company in Devon called Difflock that does synth oil for the gearbox & transfer box as the first to second change can grind if you dont 'double-de-clutch' going 1 to 2 - a common problem. Theres plenty of suppliers for new & S/H parts on e-bay. It has a heater, the seats are really comfortable & my wife aka "I dont like driving big cars but this is a truck" enjoys driving it. I would say a Toyota LC would be a good alternative as they seem pretty reliable Thats my bit N
