    Chickens?

Hello, Does anyone keep chickens? I realise its well off topic, we seem to have a fair success so far, on a good week we get about 6 eggs from each of our two plus a cockerel who maintains order & sorts out the cats if they go in the run. Along with the regular food they seem to eat most greens particularly spinach, prawn heads/shells & melon seeds as well. They do a fine job of scratching up moss & fertilizing in return! Im in the process of making a new hen house & will post photos when done, we dont have many foxes - La Chasse keeps them well under control thankfully. C'est tout N
  3. Hi, Not tried that, but I have, from around 1992 played Doom, Quake & Unreal Tournament. My son tried to update me to battlefield 3 but theres a lot to get to grips with & I ended up taking long range shots with the Barret rifle, as in reality I used to get quite respectable groups at 1000yds/m in the shooting team.
  4. Hi all, Some very impressive efforts here, my mouth is watering! Perhaps there ought to be a separate cooking/baking/recipes forum? N
  5. Agreed, well done. Im no fan of smart arsed comment, sometimes a silly situation can result in a daft question. N
  6. Hi, If all you want to do is open to view & print XL files then you can download the files viewer from Microsoft - they also have a similar PP & Word viewer. Download: Excel Viewer - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details otherwise choose one of the many free office suites, I would use OpenOffice, but there is Libra Office & Oxygen which uses the OO engine . If you want online/cloud based then Google docs & ThinkFree. N

  9. Hi, Welcome to the forum, Its a broad subject to deal in one post, so with out going into too much detail, you'll need to speak some French, I hope this isnt stating the obvious but they do like it. People are extremely friendly & welcoming, particularly in more rural areas. I spoke more to our neighbour the first day we moved in, than with our old neighbour in the UK in the three years he lived next to us! There are several forums which will provide a lot of help, for example Employment, Jobs, Work & Starting Business in France AngloINFO France. Everything for expats living in or moving to France. The Complete Guide to France - Travel, Living in France & Expat - Lost-in-France.com Bon chance! N
  10. Nice post, Im sure your father would be pleased that his saw is now being used & well cared for. I have a small collection of my grand fathers & fathers tools - using them always brings back fond memories.
  11. Get well soon, Hope the nurses are well fit and flash their regulation stockings and suspenders on a regular basis!
  12. I agree entirely, They offer anything to get you to sign up but even when its the other persons fault take ages to re-pay your excess. It took us nearly 18 months to get ours back from Churchill, even though the other driver was found guilty of all charges in court.
  13. Hi, Good luck with your new venture, Just be extremely careful when dealing with Companies House, they issue fines like confetti.
  14. Respect - & powered by the RR Merlin engine with its indistinguishable, utterly beautiful sound of a 27 litre V12. One of our friends father flew spits & was shot down over the North East, he was assisted by the locals but thought they were Norwegian!
  15. and some without engines... & a mono shot
  16. Hello, went to a local airshow today, where a 3/4 scale Mosquito flew, heres a few flicks:

Four or five large glasses of rouge followed by a glass of Eau de Vie should shift it
  18. Agreed, Seems to me a disproportionate amount of coverage, but the 100th anniversary of any tragic event attracts more media coverage. Please remember submariners lost in various accidents: Thresher, Scorpion, Thetis, Komsomolets & Kursk to name just a few.
  19. All I can say is crack on, you're most welcome to slog yourself to death!
  20. Hi I wouldnt bother with Yell, way too expensive. Spend a couple of hundred on a simple web site or do it your self. N
  21. Diddnt some Govt think tank clot suggest banning bank holidays in the name of productivity? What utter Richard Craniums with scant grasp on reality these politicians are, they only see bottom line & Im sure all the unpaid hours of over time people do would go out of the window. Seems like they want people to work all hours & drop dead about 5 minutes before they pick up their pension.
  22. Hello, My brother went to Brasenose college Oxford in the '70s Our daughter went to Christ Church Oxford, she & most of her peers, were funded by hard working, proud parents who gave up foreign holidays, new cars, new kitchens, etc to fund their education. She represented her college in the rowing team and worked unbelievably hard to graduate. So did our son at Plymouth. There is nothing elitist about our family - any casual observer may probably think the opposite. The boat race is an event we all follow with interest & passion for many a year, it is after all the start of summer (well almost). It saddens me that someone decides to protest in such a manner as I consider their futile gesture well off the mark & hope they get locked up. But, if it was up to me I wouldn't have stopped the race. N

    Chickens

Hello, Yes, we use sawdust for the chickens under the hay in the nest boxes and under the perches in the house. It makes clearing out a lot easier. N

    Baby names!

Great thread, Our two are Natalie & Edward both in their mid twenties now but this thread takes me back to when I held them for the first time, such a wonderful event. So my best wishes & good luck to all expectant Arb parents!
  25. Hi Firstly, you should get iWork or Pages from the ap store, they are very reasonable. This provides you with a word processor - & spreadsheet & presentations if you buy iWork - all these applications are MUCH nicer to use than their Microsoft equivalents, Word in the past has driven me to despair see Avoid Microsoft Word A real advantage with Apple is that you can print to PDF format, Im fairly sure iPad can do this but check, I produce all my invoices as so & e-mail them quotes/invoices/receipts out to clients. so go for it N
