  1. Anyone got experience of the FS450?
  2. Thanks for all the replies Looks like something in the 40-45cc range is about right then. I've done a few figures and still can't see how I can justify a new one so it's looking like my ebay account is going to get busy. Had a look last night and the larger Huskys are in short supply on there but plenty of FS400's so looking more like one of them. Not dismissing the Echo either but again there is a limited number available on ebay. Not convinced about the Honda, I've used one in the past and it worked fine but I just don't see the point of a 4 stroke, more to go wrong and the weight is an issue. Also I usually have plenty of 2 stroke fuel mixed up so fuel is never going to be an problem. Big T, I love the little FS55 an if I was only clearing a patch of 100 meters then I wouldn't be changing but last summer I did just over an acre with it in one job and there's more than that to do this year so I think it's time to change.
  3. I've got a Stihl FS55 (27cc) and it's a great little tool for grass and light clearing work but I'm getting more heavy clearing nowadays, brambles, bracken etc. What size machine do people recommend for this sort of work, will be looking to fit a mulching blade. Can't afford to spend a fortune on this as this work is only a small part of what I do so may go secondhand if I can find a good one.
  4. Aspen opening devise?
  5. No shortage of pollinators here, including lots of queen wasps, up to 8 in doors by the end of each day. Had to take out 3 small nests in a shed the other day.
  6. Excellent - but maybe you should find yourself a nice quiet hobby like stamp collecting or something
  7. I was reading your splitter thread last night I thought you sounded a lot better, almost as if a different person was writing the thread from the one that started this one. What ever you are doing seems to be helping a bit so keep it up I wish you well.
  8. Yes it will!
  9. Interesting. Steve, is there any chance of yourself or someone else in the know inviting Stihl to come on and comment on this subject in order to give us some clarity.
  10. Dear Stihl I am amazed at your "head in the sand" attitude to on-line sales. Do you really think your company is big enough to ignore what is rapidly becoming the main way people shop? Surely this policy can only lead to the slow and painful demise of what is to my mind a great company. On a personal level, I live on a Scottish island and have 4 Stihl chainsaws, one brushcutter, one blower and a cut off saw. We have no Stihl dealer on the island which has never before proved a problem when parts are needed, however if I now have to travel to the mainland to visit my nearest dealer then I can only see me selling my Stihl products and replacing them with those of one of your competitors.
  11. Certainly was in several pieces, could never have got it home otherwise I'll see if my parents still have it at there place, only trouble is it's 500 miles from my place!
  12. Back in 1980 I went on a 2 week school trip to the med, remember buying one of these (may still have it) Fairly sure it came from Turkey but if not there then somewhere in that area. I think they were decorative and not meant to be used.

  18. Like Jon said, it's too dry! See you sometime mate Work started on your house yet?
  19. Sharpened one of these for a guy recently, IIRC used a 4.8mm file. Watch yourself with it, this guy has a nice scar on his leg from it, but then like he said it was blunt at the time and he was pushing like mad with it.
  20. lit it at 8 this evening
  21. Husqvarna 125r strimmer today. A bit odd, was told the choke wouldn't stay on. Sure enough every time it would spring back to the run position. Cleaned all the crude out from around the carb linkages and all worked perfectly, easy fix. Took it outside the workshop to start, pumped the primer only to find fuel pouring out of a perished fuel line. Parts ordered.
  22. I said I could be wrong - and I was right
  23. I may be wrong be it reminds me of an old woodwarm that my brother threw out
  24. Would be interested if I was closer
