  1. You got a bloomin good deal there, that is some serious pipework in the price.
  2. What really needs doing is machinery theft needs to be taken seriously by machine manufacturers, importers and dealers. Insurance companies have the power to make them take it seriously, but at the end of the day is it really in any of their interests to stop it? after all it's all about making sales. And between them they could make a huge difference to machinery theft if they really wanted to.
  3. Is that not a single spool ? flow and return perhaps Stephen can confirm. It's a nice bit of kit, even more tempted now.

  5. UVO = used veg oil Derv = diesel Not an engine I would want to run it on without some serious research.

A good place to ask is here, but I assume you are talking about UVO, virgin rapeseed is not that much cheaper than derv, certainly not cheap enough to warrant damaging very expensive pumps and injectors imo, this time of year you would want to use not much mixed with derv as the stuff is fairly thick in the winter. If you are going to be using UVO then you would be wise to set up a dewatering and filtering setup to clean it up before using it, some of the used stuff is really nasty. We used to run a couple of tractors on UVO/derv mix at 60/40 ratio in the summer but that was in Same tractors which are designed to run on the stuff, we also tried 50/50 in a deutz powered irrigation pump and over time it caused problems with gumming up, the carbon in the exhaust was like a glue/paste.
  7. We use one that is custom built by one of my boys, we are one of the guinea pigs for any bugs, it is going out on sale soon, he tweaks it to how the customer wants it. I believe there is going to be a mobile (android only) version Works very well for us as we do the invoicing, customer balances and payment info on it, we could do expenses but that is all dealt with by the book keeper, so the software sends her a report in the exact format she wants it.
  8. not a bad price for a 200tdi even if it does want work on it. For bearings I would use oem which will be timken, springs if you are not lifting it are just as well to go with genuine as there is very little price difference, pipes you can get made up or make them up yourself cheaply enough if you buy the kit to do them.

We use britcar the website is a bit iffy for finding parts without a part number, they are local to us and we get a discount off the site prices, download yourself the parts manual pdf here also get the microcat brochure, you can download it from various places on the net or use this online version here As said above avoid the blue box pattern parts like the plague, for safety critical parts go for genuine. I miight be interested in the camper if it's any good.

  12. I have generally bought Hitachi for all my power tools but my last 18v drill/driver has 3 dead batteries after just over 2 years which I am not too impressed about, no issues with any of the other hitachi tools I have though
  13. Sorry to jump in here Britpart parts are in the main rubbish, we refuse to fit anything from britpart, for pattern we use either bearmach or allmakes but try to use genuine or oem where possible. They are nicknamed s#itpart for good reason

Spend a bit extra on a decent one imo, parts are cheap but to do one up properly is fairly time consuming, 200tdi & 300tdi are pretty bullet proof engines but a bit lacking in power although they can be tweaked pretty easily and cheaply, as said take someone along who knows the problem areas you get on older landies if you aren't too clued up on them yourself. 90's make good tow motors but the rear space is rubbish, 110 hicap make good work horses, and will have the salisbury rear axle. Be choosey about what brand of parts you use on it when bits need doing and it should see you well, we avoid one particular brand like the plague.

Not sure his build for next to nothing idea works though "and did not need planning permission as it was classed as a summer house" surely it isn't for full residential use then ? A residential building plot is a very large part of the cost of building a house.
  16. Anyone who thinks or say's painkillers have no serious long term side effects are kidding themselves, my mum spent years on various painkillers due to her arthritis and is now in stage 4 kidney failure and steadily getting worse as a result of them. I very rarely take anything.
  17. When we were looking into these I done a fair bit of research, this is some of what I found out about them. GPS can be blocked fairly easily and cheaply apparently you could get the blockers from maplins, VHF is a lot harder and requires some pretty serious kit. Also GPS can be pin pointed making it easier to find on the machine, VHF puts you in the rough vicinity ie: it's in this yard somewhere but you can't pin point it. They are a bit of a minefield but like most things I think you get what you pay for. My brothers firm had 2 new 360 diggers stolen off site that had GPS trackers fitted.

Security for me is a major issue, in the last year alone we have had major kit and fuel stolen on site on 4 occasions, I am happier when kit is in the yard, but that hasn't stopped people trying to take it. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't swap what I have but yes you do have to be disciplined which I am not, I find I never switch off and find myself wandering into the workshop to sort jobs out when I should be indoors with my feet up and then there's the "what was that noise" syndrome I have had a couple of places with yards and a few without, and I was always more relaxed at the ones without, if that makes sense ?
  19. Not sure this would work very well, you would need to consider if a tipped load would cause problems with the stabiliser legs getting in the way. It depends on what size load you are tipping off the side. Anything can be done though

Agreed, however at the time we were looking at having quite a lot fitted and the subscription per year for all of them added up to a fair lump, every little helps but considering what service the trackers we were looking at included in the price I was surprised at how little they were discounting, which gives me the opinion they couldn't really care if they were fitted or not. But yes for us it was more because of the huge inconvenience having kit stolen causes.

Your insurance company will have a list of tracker units that they will give you a discount for, when I inquired with NFU the most they were offering was 10% which didn't even slightly cover the annual subscription costs, and that was on the best track & retrieve system that tracker has on offer.
  22. Call me cynical but i'm pretty sure if Dean wasn't making out of these then global wouldn't be remotely interested in selling them. There are ways sole agency dealers/importers like global could help combat machinery theft if they really wanted to, but it would cost them in time and money to implement.
  23. The only benefit I think is that you are on site for security purposes, apart from that I personally think being that close to work has a lot of down sides
  24. I have a mobile gprs unit with cardsave, which is multi network and rarely have connection problems. I wouldn't be without it and although the fees can add up for the stuff we have subbies deliver it means we get paid before we deliver, and for jobs we get paid on the day.
