  1. Did 3 days cutting oak cladding for a customer and finished early on the third day. They had a brown oak they didn't want so I knocked a bit of money off the bill, milled it up and brought it home. Really nice colour but photo doesn't show it. No insect attack at all. One corner had some rot but not too much. A couple of soft patches else where. Will treat and stack tomorrow and take a couple of pics of the boards.
  2. Trust insurance are good
  3. Did this one earlier in the week. 4ft diameter. Been left about 2 years apparently. Spalted nicely but It would of started going mushy if left any longer. Loads of metal in it too. Picture of the two biggest bits which both came out of he same whole. Had a stone lodged in the middle as well which means I now have to file a bit more than half the tooth off one of my chains to get it back.
  4. Nice. Is that a model 6. If so what's the max width/ length of cut? Cheers
  5. A good glug has always done for me.
  6. I'm sure I've got some stuff. Where abouts are you?
  7. If you need it milled I can do if for you. What's the access like?
  8. My dad bought one of these last year. Can't fault it for the money and has split everything we have thrown at it. Easy to move around and road towable. Needs a light board though. http://www.rockmachinery.co.uk/product/20ton-dual-action-log-splitter/
  9. I've made gaskets out of the paper envelope type folders when I had nothing better to hand
  10. If you use thin nuts, you can put two on the back as a lock nut so you can turn it loose.
  11. Looks like yew to me
  12. I always use 2 Leighton Sharp sand ,1 soft sand to 1 cement. dry mix. You want it just wet enough so that if you grab it in your hand and squeeze it, it holds its shape. That way it won't stain the slabs. Slabs need to be dry though. Brush it in and compact it with a rubbing iron. The reason it fails is because people brush it in and don't compact it enough. I brush in. compact, and repeat twice on each joint. Compact it well it won't fail. If it's a dry day I must spray it afterwards. Much cheaper and always got the materials on site already. Forgot to say. Glug of sbr in the mix to.
  13. Need to recommend someone to remove a couple of maples in long crendon. So let me know if you cover that area and want a recommend. Cheers
  14. It's a satisfactory re use , but a reduction is always more satisfactory. [emoji3]
  15. Haven't used arbtalk a lot lately. Got fed up with all the scrapping and continual reiteration of points by some people. Came on couple of days ago for the first time in ages and found two off topic threads that might interest me. This one and media brainwashing. Amazed to find that the same points are being reiterated by the same person/people on these two threads as were being continually made when I last used the site. Shame.
  16. I'll never use it while it comes in disposable containers. Huge amounts of the recyclable plastic ends up in the sea and not recycled. I was always taught reduce, reuse then recycle. Not recycle as the favoured option. Recycling plastic has a massive carbon footprint if it gets recycled at all. I buy my milk from a local farm in a refillable stainless churn. I have a water bottle I fill from the tap. Another thing that bugs me now is coffee cups. Why isn't there an option at the machine to use your own reusable mug.
  17. Top work again Steve.
  18. Can't you just something like this? http://fascias.com/brown-in-line-posts Sent from my SM-G920F using Arbtalk mobile app

  20. Don't think I've ever had a sycamore that wasn't at least slightly spalted. Sent from my SM-G920F using Arbtalk mobile app
  21. Sure I'll help out. Just let me know when you want to mill and ill book you in.
  22. Cutting 30mm boards from trees that size it should only be one or two boards that has a bad heart fault. If it looks bad discard it.
  23. I use a cscope cs4pi. As recommended And discussed in another thread on here. It works well and usually prevents me from hitting metal. But won't always save you on a 10"beam etc.
  24. I'm guessing bonsai trees

    Chard...

Love rainbow chard. Try this recipe for a raw salad. Remove chard stalks, roll a few lraves like a cigar and slice thinly, Soak a lemonn in boiling watr for 10 seconds to remove wax, Take zest off lemon and put in with the chard Make bread crumbs with the bread, slice garlic thinly,& Olive oil in a pan, a fair bit, heat Fry garlic for 20 seconds or so then add breadcrumbs, keep moving bread crumbs, they will soak up all the oil, fry till they are very golden brown and crunchy, maybe 2 or 3 mins, careful not to burn them, add salt and pepper, plenty of salt Set aside to cool Juice lemon, mix with Olive oil 3oil to 1juice, add a pinch of salt, Dress leaves with dressing, add grated parmesan and bread crumbs just before serving, One of my favourite salads.
