My saw won’t start at all! Ran to empty early today, refilled and now won’t start. Not even getting a splitter, engine turns but won’t fire up. Any ideas? Driving me mad!

Thanks for the kind comments. Done all work with my uncle over a few months of weekends. The partition is about 9ftx8ft of elm with oak lintel. I'm firmly of the opinion of letting the timber do its thing, just want to protect it at this stage really. I've some Douglas fir floor boards ready to sheet the sides of the stairs.

Hi, Delving back into the knowledge on the forum. So I have the straits in place but trying to sort out finishes now. The Douglas Fir uprights and posts are all oiled with danish oil. The waney edges look really well I have to say. I had to use red deal for the threads/risers to save money. My question is, what type of finish could I use to best blend with the douglas? I don't want to use dyes/stains/varnishes. I had thought of lightly burning with a blow torch and then using danish oil?

Another vote for the Husqvarna 545rxt. An animal to use use but heavy but the harness is brilliant.

Hi, Collecting a 15.5hp, 40inch Husqvarna Rider on Saturday. Really nice condition and very clean engine and all new belts etc. Had it fully checked over by my small engine mechanic uncle as well. Got messed around by a guy selling a stiga park 16, paid my deposit and he sold if off to another guy who then offered 50€ more, got my deposit back at least but gave him an earful first. Thanks as always for the guidance

Hi, Just for follow up, I managed after countless phone calls to track down some really nice Douglas fir. Got 6x6 inch and 16ft lengths for my 11ft ceilings. Timber has lovely waney edges as well which is just what I wanted and 269€ for 6x lengths!! When it's all done I'll post up some photos for your critique! Thanks for the help!

I just find that cedar or Douglas have a nicer colour to them really is all. I'm just familiar of seeing it used internally on stairs etc. If there's a fairly cheap alternative that has nice timber characters, I am of course open to any suggestions. I'm from Ireland so I reckon sourcing any timber in U.K. wont be an option unfortunately.

Going at a new stairs in the house here, but not sure what wood to use. Have used elm and oak already in the room on doors so anything to match it is good, it's a very rustic style overall so we get away with imperfections. I'm toying with using 6x6 timbers for the main columns and posts. Do you think Douglas fir or western red cedar could be suitable for this type of indoor project? My budget is quite tight so isn't going to stretch to elm or oaks or any reclaimed timbers this time but I want something that's a little different with nice character and I don't want red real. Any ideas?

I suppose I'm in no huge rush to purchase, but would like it before end of February anyway. There's very little on the second hand market around me at the moment unfortunately. Because of the length of avenue, I'm sticking with ride on. I agree with one poster, 13hp sounds low for the ground being covered with 40inch deck. There's a 15.5hp Stiga around also with a 42inch that may be worth a look. No husqvarnas around at all.

Hi, I always seem to be asking for advice,but it's a great forum for knowledge. I'm looking to buy a used lawnmower just for the home, it'll never be used commercially. There is approx a half acre lawn on an L-shape with trees and flower beds to be navigated. The awkward part is a 500m avenue that leads to our house with a 3ft grass verge on both sides. The verges has a post and rail fence along side it but with no kerbs laid. For this reason, I've only been looking for front deck mowers, it's not hilly so AWD probably won't be a factor. I've been offered a stiga 13.5hp front deck with 40inch deck, but I'm holding out for something like a Husqvarna Rider with 15hp. The budget is about €2000 tops and there isn't much selection at the moment. What do you think of the stiga vs the Husqvarna? Or would I be better with a toro walk behind? Any suggestions are welcome.

Sorry to drag this subject back up but I didn't want to be starting a new thread. My father asked me to have a look at his Husqvarna 435. Same problem as above it seems. I know it had gone through at least 3 recoil mechanism. The latest occasion has seen me ruin 2 new mechanisms. The pawls appear to be rubbing or catching big time on the White plastic part of the recoil mechanism, really tearing lumps out of it. I've looked at the pawls and one in particular seems a little 'bent', the other one seems straighter. Are these supposed to be dead straight or are they designed to be a slightly bent in? I tried straightening it up and the saw ran fine until I tried to start it again, by which time it had gone bent again! Really not liking this saw, has given endless problems since he got it.

Just by way of follow up, Leaning towards the dolmar as the retailer is my usual service agent and is local. He'll also upgrade to heated handles for 750€. The echo is working out awkward as th local supplier is moving away from Echo back to Stihl which would leave me almost 2hrs away from nearest supplier. The Husqvarna agent is simply being sloppy and hasn't come back with a price after 3x attempts to quote. Historically ive had problems with their quality of service anyway so think I'll avoid them.

I've a douvre model 2000 I think it is. It's an inglenook type with folding doors. Big in size but not vey big efficiency in my opinion. I've replaced glass and all the seals but it's not great. They do look great however! I tried to source a Nordpeis but found it hard here in Ireland.

Completely agree, I actually do have one but its on an extremely long term loan to my brother!
