  1. timber is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, the magority of "hobby" turners want it all for free, "buts only a little hobby, I dont make anything out of it", til you see the stands at any craft fair, or look online, Im with jonny69 on this one now, no up front cash, goes in the bonfire, on into my own pile
  2. the blue smoke is std, all mogs do it, its called mogstink, when it stops, then youve got problems
  3. and as a real piss off, my LT2 is registred as a camper, so car rules apply, a bed and a cooker, and a class4 test.......lol
  4. connect is classed as commercial, pickups are dual class
  5. with the move to electronic auto tune, I would be looking at echo or dolmar, both dont have it yet
  6. its big country with a lot to see, he needs to be a little more specific about the area and time off year, almost like a "how long is a bit of string " question
  7. an ugly one, hit it with an axe anyway, just to be sure its not dangerous....lol
  8. from when I walk out the door till when I walk back in, all is written out in the quote, if I have to stay on site, theres a different price for that as well. lunch is dependant on what, and where Im cutting, but as im not in the "office", its paid at the same rate as cutting, usually 20-30 mins, cuppa and some food.
  9. it is a lot easier to undo than an alpine or a bowline on a bight, and a proper truckers hitch is a nightmare on sythnetic rope, it was designed around the old hemp ropes
  10. to be honest, having looked at the availability of all the bandsaw machines on the market today, the one I would definatley not buy secondhand would be a woodmizer, to many "specialised" bits on it, and to expensive for what it is, better, cheaper, better engineered stuff out there
  11. I live in scotland, used to be empployed as a mobile fitter by a company based in bristol, when they terminited my contract they tried totell me I coulnt work for any of there competiors, or contact any of there clients, I laughed in the ***** face and told him Id do as I pleased and there wasnt a thing he could do, scotish law overides english law in scotland, and i had a right to work as what ever I wanted, the look on his face was priceless
  12. if you are only going to be dragging , no lifting, screwfix/toolstation also have shackles and marrilion links at really good prices
  13. its not a grey area, if your mog is registerd as an agricultural machine, its not allowed on the motorway, if its an HGV, it is, and once registerd as an agri it is near immpossible to change it back, asif you ever would
  14. long enough to wrap around the hung tree, put a "D" shackle througth the eyes and hook your lugall cable to the shackle, same at the other fixed end. so a couple of 2mtr ones and maybe a 3mtr one, if theres a lot of small timber get a couple of 1mtr ones, but the deciding factor is the dia of the trees your cutting
  15. ps just looked in toolstation, under a fiver for a 1 tonne sling, and under 20 for a 2mtr 2 tonne one
  16. a sling is a sling is a sling, as long as your slings are properly manufactured, labled, and carry an swl tag, find the cheapest supplier you can, screwfix and toolstation are hard to beat, and as slings used for pulling timber get a really hard time, there cheap enough to throw away if in any doubt
  17. if its agri registred, its not allowed on the motorway

    Oops

now you can say you'r a real logosol user, welcome to the club
  19. are you running it on an ext lead, check the voltage at the motor end, you know the crack, low voltage=higher amps= higher load on motor, etc, and the cap takes the brunt of it, a very common problem
  20. yes the millis made in china, but its a canadian company, they distrubute worldwide, and we now have a uk contact, both the hm126 and the HM130 are cracking pieces of kit, you would not go wrong with any of them, backup from the company is great, tech advice, wonderfull,(how many companies will give you a drawing for a trailer because they know you can probably build it cheaper than they could supply) and the rest of there kit is starting to make the big players look again at some of there prices. lookat woodmizer, now marketing the timbrey T100 as there own sothey can get in on this small mill market. Do your research carefully, try and get a look at as many types as possible, even hands on if possible and let your own findings guide your purchase, (remember to consider the cost of ALL the consumables in your costings, not just bands, and how available they are)
  21. by playing the councils game you help perpepuate the myth of there authourity, as long as you have complied with the legal requirment you are good to go, councils need to remember they are public servants, there to facilitate the elected members carrying out our wishes, not gloryfying there own importance
  22. further to the standards of education, and those who are suposedly the "clever" ones, I am having to re-write a report on a roundwood timber construction because my calculations are too difficult for a university educated structural engineer, he is unable to transpose my formulas and cant get his head round how a whole non machined log can be stronger than a piece of machined timber. these are the people signing off on new structures, what chance have we got
  23. all my risk assesments are done on site prior to starting work, to many variables to do them any other way, even the weather affects the outcome of some decissions
  24. a landowner with some of that thing that seems to be in short supply these days........common sense and ability, good on the guy
  25. being involved from time to time with an orginisation that trains younsters in various outdoor jobs, striming, spraying timber felling, planting, etc, and takes them to certification, it is astounding to find some of them who have problems with basic numercy and writing skills, these days it seems all they are bothered about in schools are the exam pass figures and goverment quotas, if you cant do it your cast aside and ignored
