  1. the second method is the prefered way for shingles, up down alternatefor a pair, your first way, lifting the edge parrallel to the rail will give you taper edge boards for clading, or fences
  2. so how much can I tow behind my mog, seeing as i passed my test pre 97
  3. price wise the are great value, I now have 3, one set up for pmx milling chains, one for my std 325 cross cutting ones, and recently another for doing pm3 ones on my smaller saws
  4. just remember, 19.4 tonne gvw on airbrakes and abs, and 25mph, and must be forestry related for red
  5. keep your eyes on lidl, they sell a cheap chain grinder, a little time setting it up, and dressing the "stone" will give you excellent results with a milling chain.......as with any grinder, the less you grind off, the better, any damaged teeth, hit them with a few light grinds rather than one big hit, this prevents heat damage to the chain, and as with anything mechanical, practice, practice, and then practice some more
  6. again this question rears its ugly head...certificates......and again everyone misses the critical wording.......RECOMENDS......any competent person can provide an assesment as to your capability, and as long as its on a record somewhere, this is sufficient, everyone assumes you must do a course, an assesment, and get a "ticket"....not true, and before someone comes along and tramps out puwer etc, everthing is a recomended, .....its called covering your ass, and official bodies are experts at it...deny everything, but create a paper trail to cover your ass, and pass the blame to someone else
  7. 165 from a na engine isnt to difficult, remember the om352 and om366 engines are fitted into an awfull lot of other things than just mogs, with the right pump and injector combination anythings possible..........just remember hellgeth are getting over330hp out of them!!!!
  8. falls into the same catagory as a blind dog, disability discrimination act applies
  9. ah yes, the imfamous steering box, the "big" fastracs failing, no direct connection of steering wheel to wheels. abs isnt compulsory, only if fitted as std origonaly, but air brakes are reqd for any trailer over 3.5t, if used commercialy
  10. trantors, MB-TRACs, and fastracs are the only tractors allowed to exceed 25mph in the uk, doesnt matter what gearbox is in your valtra, massey,or whatever, if it doesnt have 4 wheel suspension and braking. it cant go faster
  11. first thinnings on a day rate, or nobody will touch it, its near impossible to make a decent piece work on small shitty thinnings, even with trainees working for pennies
  12. if you listen, the operator actually states its a firewood saw, a good idea actually, no kickback zone and a big radius leading to less chain wear
  13. heres an even more radical idea......learn how to do a decent gob and back cut, the tree will go over itself, just a thought from the past
  14. learn to fell without one, they're a waste of time on a proper felling job
  15. and in the meantime, a 5mtr or longer lashing strap round a rear tyre with the diff locks engaged will pull you out surprisingly easily !!!!!
  16. have a look on the bay, but be aware a hydraulic winch wont come with the pipework or valves to fit it, and your going to need one of around 15000lb pull to be capable of standing a chance of pulling a stuck mog......save a wee while longer and get a pto driven one, even a basic capstan style one
  17. Ive got a sign which goes on the front of my splitter when its on the front hydraulic lift of the mog..........it says "your car is my crumple zone"....... folk seem to give it a wide berth
  18. I am my own boss, I set my targets and hours, I pick what projects I work on.........do I like my job...........untill somebody hands me a winning lottery ticket, there is nothing better than doing something you enjoy doing, it isnt reall work then, is it
  19. no mot for trailers (yet) in the uk also the cutting of grass, isnt as simple asyes youcan/no you cant, there are a multitude of different scenarios covered by HMRC as to what fuel you can use, using a tractor on the road can be really simple IF you read, understand, and keep a copy with you, of the construction and use act defining a tractor, and a copy of HMRC's use of rebated fuels, as Ive stated in numerous posts about Mog usage, no grey areas, only stupid enforcement officers......its all down in black and white
  20. agrimog

    Felling wedges

a bit of well seasoned ash and cut your own, easy to replace, very very cheap, and wont damage any chains if you have a little woopsie
  21. it could be for forestry, or horticultural use..........both free, and as long as its registred as either an agricultural machine or an agricultural tractor, then taxation class is free, irrespective of use, its the class thats taxed, not the use
  22. porangi, speak to rob at chainsaw bars, I run one of the GB bars on my M7 mill, GB used to make the bars for logosol direct ( if you look at an older logosol bar, the yellow and black stripey ones, they are in fact GB manufactured), rob also can now supply the genuine stihl pmx chaiin for a complete milling package
  23. yanmar will not suport "grey" tractors due to the numerous litigation cases in the usa, sorry but you cant stop stupid, your YM 1600 is perfectly safe, and a cracking buy, hoyles are great for information, but wont ship outside the US, there are a few uk suppliers, sparex being the most obvious(check your local agrri supplier) as for a manual, a good search on the web should tur up something, clymer, I&T, being the 2 that spring to mind. and welcome to the world of the noisy 2 cylinder yanmar........lol
  24. stick a pto driven hydraulic pump on it, it will run any splitter you like then, and as fast as you can load it
  25. most small tractors are imports, nearly all of them come from either japan or india, sub 20hp, very few have auxilary hydraulic outputs, most, if not all have conventional pto rotation, what they do have is an oddball middle pto speed designed for some bit of rice paddy kit, the rice paddy tyres although murder on hard surfaces, are unbeatable in the soft and loose of the woods. the two and three cylinder yanmar diesels are DI, so are noisy, but sip fuel, manual shutdown......no bigee, means no electronics to go wrong, have a really good spares network, and an excellent knowledge database.
