  1. if your tightening a taper face seal, run the nut up till the faces meet , then finger tight, then half to one flat more with a spanner, any more and you risk damaging the sealing faces, this applies to bsp, jic, metric, japanese metric and komatso tapered. orfs, sae3000 and sae 6000, seal on the o ring and are a different story
  2. that has got to be the biggest piece of crap I've ever watched in the wood, I've got raw trainees that sned, cut, and stack 3 times faster than that machine...........thought the whole idea of mechanicals was to speed up the proscess
  3. as the courts authourity doesnt stretch beyond the building, the security gaurd(wannabe plastic policeman) he would have been told to go forth and sub divide, like the lower liferorm he was
  4. find a local engineering company with cnc milling capability, and get them to price a set of templates for you, this will be your best option as all thats available are pretty basic
  5. northcape in norway, coldest bloody place I've ever been !!!!
  6. less than 4 employees is the no. for non written risk assesment and method statment, it also alows for a fluid risk assesment for changing work conditions ( multiple tree felling sites, where every fall changes the percieved risk) and things like that
  7. unfortunatly unless the old bill can turn a quick profit from any crimes these days, there not interested, break in at your workplace sir, are there any vehicles there that we can check and issue with tickets for sir,no, sorry we'll give you a crime no then, we arent interested, the modern police force is more interested in protecting there elite overlords and making money off easy touch traffic stops than actually doing anything, the slow run up to privatisation and what that brings
  8. 185 benly......small spoked wheels and very low seat hieght, they were a cracking little commuter bike
  9. the agricultural exception is actually meant to apply to tractors, and similar, not end of life vehicles used to nip about the property, this is an explotied grey area, pc plod could stop one of these vehicles at any time on the highway and demand it passes a test commensurat with its vehicle type, ie, an mot test for a pickup or similar, a truck test for a truck type vehicle (mog etc), but as there isnt one for atractor, a basic roadworthiness test depending on the spec of the machine, this is all covered in the construction and use act,and is very complex
  10. if you would care to do your research, any vehicle like this can checked, and the driver/owner prosecuted the same as any vehicle requiring an mot, the RTA states " must be kept in a roadworthy and safe condition"
  11. the second method is the prefered way for shingles, up down alternatefor a pair, your first way, lifting the edge parrallel to the rail will give you taper edge boards for clading, or fences
  12. so how much can I tow behind my mog, seeing as i passed my test pre 97
  13. price wise the are great value, I now have 3, one set up for pmx milling chains, one for my std 325 cross cutting ones, and recently another for doing pm3 ones on my smaller saws
  14. just remember, 19.4 tonne gvw on airbrakes and abs, and 25mph, and must be forestry related for red
  15. keep your eyes on lidl, they sell a cheap chain grinder, a little time setting it up, and dressing the "stone" will give you excellent results with a milling chain.......as with any grinder, the less you grind off, the better, any damaged teeth, hit them with a few light grinds rather than one big hit, this prevents heat damage to the chain, and as with anything mechanical, practice, practice, and then practice some more
  16. again this question rears its ugly head...certificates......and again everyone misses the critical wording.......RECOMENDS......any competent person can provide an assesment as to your capability, and as long as its on a record somewhere, this is sufficient, everyone assumes you must do a course, an assesment, and get a "ticket"....not true, and before someone comes along and tramps out puwer etc, everthing is a recomended, .....its called covering your ass, and official bodies are experts at it...deny everything, but create a paper trail to cover your ass, and pass the blame to someone else
  17. 165 from a na engine isnt to difficult, remember the om352 and om366 engines are fitted into an awfull lot of other things than just mogs, with the right pump and injector combination anythings possible..........just remember hellgeth are getting over330hp out of them!!!!
  18. falls into the same catagory as a blind dog, disability discrimination act applies
  19. ah yes, the imfamous steering box, the "big" fastracs failing, no direct connection of steering wheel to wheels. abs isnt compulsory, only if fitted as std origonaly, but air brakes are reqd for any trailer over 3.5t, if used commercialy
  20. trantors, MB-TRACs, and fastracs are the only tractors allowed to exceed 25mph in the uk, doesnt matter what gearbox is in your valtra, massey,or whatever, if it doesnt have 4 wheel suspension and braking. it cant go faster
  21. first thinnings on a day rate, or nobody will touch it, its near impossible to make a decent piece work on small shitty thinnings, even with trainees working for pennies
  22. if you listen, the operator actually states its a firewood saw, a good idea actually, no kickback zone and a big radius leading to less chain wear
  23. heres an even more radical idea......learn how to do a decent gob and back cut, the tree will go over itself, just a thought from the past
  24. learn to fell without one, they're a waste of time on a proper felling job
  25. and in the meantime, a 5mtr or longer lashing strap round a rear tyre with the diff locks engaged will pull you out surprisingly easily !!!!!
