  1. why?, its about +4 c here in lovely warm scotland at the moment, ah, of course englandshire if freezing for a change.....lol
  2. there are plenty of the "older" sbu models coming on stream as ex la vehicles, quite highly speced and with good service historys at a fraction of the cost of these new mogs, u300, u400,u500, u3000,u4000,u5000, being the "new" sbu and panoramic screened models(all these are loaded with electronics etc), i cant see these versions still running around in 20-30 years. the military have stopped using them and have now moved over to the xetros range, no fancy stuff on these, strange ?. Ive worked on some of these new electronic mogs and they are a real pain , everything is controlled either by electronics or pnuematics and unless youve got the correct test gear any faults can be a nightmare to diagnose and repair, and any mods!!!1 trying to get the systems to see them, arghhhh, unless theyve been approved by merc and got a code no, it can be a pain, no more sticking aftermarket bits on. yes there nice to drive, have "pretty " interiors, are driver friendly with push button controls, but how long are these things going to last without the budget of a large utility co, or a local authority to look after them
  3. try milners off road, youll need to google there phone no, cos ive lost it, but there very good for jap engine parts
  4. u20, to many electronics, needs ad-blue, pre-select semi auto, box, very few user serviceable components compared to the older sbu models, so unless youve got very deep pockets, leave them to the utility companies they were designed for, there just to expensive for what they are, but thats just my opinion
  5. the spuce oil and resin burn like hell itself, make sure youve got plenty of sausages and spuds in tinfoil, and youll be well fed from the bonfire, and the potash thats left is good for the soil
  6. why are we starting this long boring road again, HSE information are ADVISORY they cannot force you to do there bidding, you have to use your COMMON SENSE !!!!, something that seems to have been thrown away these days.
  7. just for your info, traditional loggers, the mog, fastrac(grey area with some models, something about the steering system), mbtrac, are soon to joined by a resurected oldy, trantor are about to be reborn, going to prove interesting with vosa soon!
  8. dean, if you were doing domestic arb work, yes, doesnt qualify, but if you were to use it to "pull" the ocasionall tree out of the wood, maybe skid some non domestic timber out of the wood, then thats forestry work. by the same token on"cherry" use, go into the forrest, drag the timber out and take it to your yard, ok to use cherry, go to the same forrest, pick up your timber from a stack, take it back to your yard, not ok to use cherry! you try and work out the logic
  9. as i have already stated forestry is an accepted exemption, nowhere does it state only for farmers quote"Agricultural machines The following vehicles can be taxed in the 'agricultural machine' tax class: Agricultural tractor A tractor used on the public roads only for purposes: relating to agriculture, horticulture, forestry of cutting verges bordering public roads of cutting hedges or trees bordering public roads or bordering verges which border public roads" this is lifted straight from the goverment website. the last time I looked cutting trees for an LA usually involved a public road in the close vicinity, same for hedges, and if there isnt a public road, its either a wood or forest, again a valid exception
  10. forgot to add, anyone over 17, with a full car licence can drive one, with a gross train weight of 29.4 tonnes, and provided your trailer is air braked and shod with the right rubber, at speeds up to 50mph. the hauliers hate them!!!
  11. agricultural registration of mogs is crystal clear, in both what you can, and cant do. 1: used for agriculture 2:used for forestry--not abriculture. 3:horticulture. the vehicle must have a pto, and prefered to have a hydraulic 3 point linkage, the dvla, vosa, and gov registration sites are very clear on what is allowed, and what isnt. any mog IS allowed on any motorway purely because it is legally allowed to exceed the 20mph limit that applys to ALL tractors that do not have suspension on ALL axles (none of your "farm" tractors have this, irrespectiveof what speed they are capable of) depending on what use the vehicle is being used for dictates the type of fuel being used, again the details are crystal clear, personally i use veg oil or bio cos its cheaper even than red!, and no questions from hmrc, get your mog, read the rules, learn them, and be willing to quote them to whatever stroppy traffic officer or vosa wannabe thinks they know better, 99.9% of them dont have a clue and will try to bully there opinion down your throat. I keep a copy of the gov website pages in the cab for just such occasions, and they will back down and apologise when proved wrong.
  12. eddie, if your going to fit the front DIN plate, make sure you get the right size, there are various ones, and they are not interchangeable on the mounts, also get/fabricate the lift kit, its two round iron spacers, like hockey pucks, that go on top of spring mounting plates, and some weird metal extensions that extend the bottom shock mounts, the are genuine merc bits, check the parts catalouge in your local merc commercial dealer
  13. schmidt do a kit that effectivly locks the front suspension solid, its designed for any front mounted implement that needs to be held stable in use ie. front mounted mowers, hedge trimmers, cranes, etc, it clamps round the front axle and is braced back from the linkage mount brackets on the chassis. The us army used a system that locked the shock absorbers on there SEE and forklift mogs but these were the older round nose mogs, not the square cab models. with a mog, if you want to do a particular job, the kit is more than likly out there to do it. Ive worked on/ buillt some weird looking combinations in my day
  14. as long as you fit the spring lift kit, or lock your front suspension up with the din plate kit, you shouldnt have a problem
  15. B&Q do now actually sell PPE for chainsaws, but no where is it an actuall LEGAL requirment to actually have any training, PPE, or knowledge, to operate a saw. all the major tool suppliers now sell chainsaws of one description or another, and as long as they do, youll never see legislation to say otherwise
  16. 5 horse motor on a 415v supply will not need a star-delta start up, wire it through a DOL starter with the right overloads and youl have no problem, if you arent sure about what your doing get a sparkie that knows about industrial 3phase, most house sparkies havent a clue. A hydraulic pump running on a spool valve setup wont draw much current on startup cos theres not really a large load on the motor
  17. kubota
  18. what grade of ally sheet were you suplied?, some are almost as hard as steel, 2024 for instance, especially in a t6 grade, and others in the 1100/1200 series are so "bendy" you could put dents in 3mm with your hands. just for a comparasion the "armour" plates om a c130 hercules to protect the body from ice particle off the props are an alluminium alloy, very tough!!!
  19. greenheart, african hardwood, naturally resists rot, often used for lock gates, pilings and harbour walls, very flexible, worth a fortune. wood turners and timber furniture guys love it, also any body with wooden rubbing strakes on machinery, only slightly less dense than lignhum vitae, dont burn it Stephen, get it advertised , it is litterally worth its weight in gold!!!!. ps they used to build top sections of fishing rods out of it
  20. dont be fooled into bio being the green option, you are using methanol, a by product of the petrochemical industry, previously very difficult to get rid of, and sodium hydroxide, a chemical which takes a great deal of raw energy to produce. going the SVO, or WVO, route is a much better option, google them for info, thees a multitude of good data out there, they even work out cheaper than red, where its allowed!
  21. everyone running on "white" diesel, is at the moment running on up to 10% bio fuel thanks to our "unelected " masters, they have decreed thats what will be added to all fuel sold in the uk. note most manufacurers only warrent up to 5% bio, take from that what you want!
  22. awsome!!!!! where can i get one, the perfect anti theft tool, and no need for courts either....lol
  23. Stephen, if you want a go with a logosol m7, pm me im just down the road from you, and ive been through all the pros and cons of all the different mill types currently available
  24. when are more folk going to realise, there are only 2 types of tractor, those restricted to 20mph, and those not, ie fast track and unimog. the law is very clear on this, if your tractor does NOT have suspension on all 4 wheels, its restricted to 20mph, just about every tractor in the uk irrespective of whether it can do 40, 50, or even now 60kph, they are by law only allowed to do 20mph on the public road.
  25. normally can spell fine treequip, but with fingers like pigs tits, i sometimes hit the wrong keys by accident lol
