  1. about time somebody started reminding the FC that they only manage the land, we, the people, own the forests, and we want youngsters working on it
  2. been using the mill for around 5 years now, its built 4 log cabins so far, that set up in the pictures is an ms660 and a 36" GB bar specially for the stihl 3/8 pmx chain
  3. wee bit of elm milled on friday, smallest of 3 bits of trunk
  4. which one?, there is a whole system that builds up to the current m8, check out you tube for all the bits
  5. wilsons usually have all there botox kit as well as this year, there new hookloader system stuff, plus the burgers are really tasty
  6. outside the safety cab = yes requires to be lollered
  7. there is plenty of information out there, especially on some of the american sites about how much insulation "r" value is actually present in solid log construction,it is that to most grey suited planners, "its not a square brick box, must be wrong" atitude wont be swayed,I struggled with certain planners about the fire resistance of solid log buildings and it took two reports, both from american sources to change there minds, till some new blood shakes up the antiquated planning rules we have in this country, were going to have to fight for anything different
  8. as J says, if your running any quantity of bands, do them youself, you get to check every tooth gullet and grind youself, and you know that the set and angles are correct, no more "friday afternoon" re-sharps
  9. the move in major trauma has been away from celox granules and towards impregnated dressings, quicker, safer, and easier to work with, the added bonus is the product is easier to remove once in A&E. and as for touriquets, theyve never been out, just not being taught about (my first instructors were mine rescue team medics, and some of the things we were taught back then are still cutting edge to some "instructors" today) the only thing about using them is time control, "T" and time written clearly on the casualty, cos if you cant go with them, around the 15 min mark compartment syndrome starts to become a possible side effect (another thing you should be learning about on chainsaw first aid courses)
  10. the gmc conversion eats LR boxes and diffs, better off buying the gmc to start with

    Result!!!

once watched a local ned being convincied not to steal cars, it involved a baseball bat, the edge of a kerbstone, and both his hands, surprisingly none of the locals saw anything, and the inability of using his hands seemed to keep his face shut as well, no more car thefts after that
  12. wait till you get 5 ton of mog stuck up to the axles and have to winch it out, thats a ploughed field...lol
  13. 50mph gales...pahhhh, the woman are hanging out the washing in stronger stuff up here.....lol
  14. the minute you start using them for anything other than whats prescribed in "the rools", they cease to be an agricultural machine, and become either a 10 tonne truck or a special purpose vehicle(an even bigger can of worms)....it isnt worth it
  15. mines is registered as agri, but I wouldnt touch domestic stuff for love or money, dont need the hassle or grief, I fell and mill trees, not prune bushes
  16. too many grouchy ***** that have never served complaining, most vetrans would enjoy the stunt and say aye, go for it, rememberance is in the heart, not a block of stone
  17. haemostatic dressings and a cat field dressing on the braces, first aid kit in the van, and cos most of the areas we work up here are quite remote, the risk assesment always has the co-ordinates for the nearest helivac
  18. when it comes to protection in a remote yard or property, the yanks have a much maligned phrase that makes a lot of sense at times....."I have a gun and a shovel, and I know how to use both......" no evidence = no case, think about it

    Fisa

would someone from FISA like to clarify "harvesting timber", or is the answer to complex for us lowly woodcutters
  20. and as for thread, ford usa will be an american national coarse(same as unc, except 1/2", the odd ball 11tpi, instead of our 12tpi) unless it was a canadian built motor
  21. any good engineering supply place should be able to get you left handed twist drills, there std fit on a lot of cnc machines, you can also get drill bushes that would fit into the hole and keep the drill centred, slow speed plenty of pressure and good cutting oil, a nice easy job, as long as you use quality drill bits !
  22. I use soluble oil, at a very weak mix, and again about a drip a second
  23. aye, that would be the weans school bus, very latest in comforts, does the whole village.....it would be reekin a wee bit rusty, with what was on the back plus the loaded trailer, it was close to 25 ton, .....and some folk on here think 1/2 ton over on there tranny tipper is overloaded......lol
  24. a good machine, logosol market mortenson under there own banner, capable of some very good work, the moulder knives are available a lot cheaper than logosol supply, takes a bit of time setting it up, but will punch well above its weight, great for turning average wood into expensive custom mouldings, if you've got the market for its output a great bit of kit
