Hi been there and done that years ago with not great success by the time you have got your shopping list together and all costs 2 new decent axels withe wheels n tyres will cost 6-700 quid hitch 200 ish brakes and cables steel paint or galvanised it will soon add up, and is there not some legal thing these days where you would have to get it CE , VOSA or some other making scam approved just go and buy a Ifor Williams at least you will know its legal ,it will tow a dream and hold it value as home made won't no matter how much you spend.

Hi been I few posts on this question , only thing I can tell you is Ifor Williams as they do last and they hold there value way above all other manufacturers , for what you have said 6 cube babs of logs moving hardcore kit has to be a 12x6 ifor tipper as unloading at the end of a hard day pushing that tipper control button is a darn sight easier than shovelling a load off, I have tt3015 and wouldn't dream of going back to a conventional trailer , save a Bit more dosh and buy the right tool for the job you won't regret it.

Yes all 4 heater plugs out try and turn by hand even if you have to put a socket or spanner on crankshaft nut turn engine over and engine should expel oil out of heater plug holes ? That's if oil has got into cylinders ,if it does expel oil chech oil level on dip stick to get some idea of how much oil is missing if not much turn key and oil should get spit out, may be before you do anything check oil level first as its so new if oil is down its hydrauliced oil in cylinders good look .

Hi all I know where you are coming from simonm and you have my sympathy, I may just have a rant here about staff ,in 2014 I got a job felling to waist 4000 tonne of infected larch first 2 lads bothe up for it big time 1 I nethere knew whether he was to be on site the following day till 10pm ish night before the other just wanted to talk about firewood all day,first lad went got 2 more lads 1 said I was costing him money as it was not full time (told at start 2-4 days a WK) so he went, other lad OK and still with me, another came got cs 30,31,32,34,35,38,39 he felled 5 big larch one day and got 2 hung up on reasonable open ground when sorting hang ups out he got his saw stuck so many times I lost count (f------ use less I thought) when he finally supplied his tickets cs30,31 a lawn mower ticket and tree planting certificate so he went another been in army for 7 years just come out did 3 days on flat ground put about 12 trees on the floor a day got a text on 4th morn can't make it today nether heard from him since,another done this and that and every tying else he said he had driven tractors all his life 2 hours its in a ditch on a 45 degree angle another couldn't add up so not much good on a tape measure when it came to processing poles GOOD staff are very hard to come across these days how ever I have 3 top lads at the moment 1 he is only happy when his saw is revving its nutts off ,2 by fare the most efficient climber I have ever had and 3,steady climber quick on the ground and likes to be down to t shirt by 10am as you can guess I want to keep these 3 they all work well together BUT there is plenty of dreamers and lads full of bulls hit out there.

There's a lot of people with caravans that break down car on truck caravan hitched up behind , I personally have been in the AA for about 20 years only ever used it 4 times 3 local and 1 60 mile away in the lakes with a 17ft boat on a trailer it wasnt the car that broke down it was the boat trailer axel that failed (trailer only 8 month old at the time) got boat on trailer recovered no problem , and drove car home what you need to remember is the AA have a lot of small breakdown recovery firms contracting to them and once they have got your signature they get paid regardless of how they did it.

Hi I don't see why you need insurance for recovery just join the AA as its the person holding the policy who's covered not the veichiel there for what ever car/van your in its covered being its yours a friends or a relation.

Hi when I was looking for a trailer I looked at several different manufacturers Brian James ,graham Edwards , Ifor ,buffalo and Nugent all looked good well built trailers that would do the job ,but for how long , had a Ifor for a period of 12 yes had been looked after but used heavily (5 full sets of tyres in that time) so that should give you some idea of the use it had. Bought new £1780 in 2003 sold on flebay 2015 for £1860 nota bad return ?, will all these other manufacturers trailers have a similar resale value ? I have my thoughts, one big thing to remember is Ifor have been there a few years now and sold a fair few trailers and are sought after on the second hand market there for raising the resale value

Hi another stihl ms241 fan 2013 model on 14" bar use it all the time for logging and felling if it can be done with either heart cut or sweep round so trees up to 32-36" gutsy little saw easy to start been very reliable so thumbs up.

Hi gone through this idea myself a few years ago and sacked it off, reason why is as some has said to you load skip and try it in woods , we did 2-3 runs out loaded and then dragging winch cables and chains about for rest of day complete waist of time,the 2 dumpers as with link to flebay are only about 3 mile from me looked at them thought about them and what I could do with them but forgot about them for now as I kept having flash backs to past experience. We have had several wheeled dumpers hired in from 1-5 tonne pay load and none have really worked,the only 1 that has is a 3 tonne tracked yanmar but only carrying 2.4 MTR firewood took tractor trailer into wood and used crane to load dumper when we was getting towards end of this job I loaded trailer and took out but I only did 4 trips and it was getting harder each time 2 or 3 more trips would of been it tracked dumper about 50 trips and not much mess .

As the saying goes you can't suit everybody ! Had a similar experience like this in sept 2016 large mature oak growing out across a main drainage ditch in the middle of a Field ,water level at one side 8" higher than the other and clear of debris underneath it ,the EA said it had to go as it was holding several thousand cube of water back, land owner got written permission EA. Got one of 3 stalks on the floor when I noticed a plumpish lady behind me screaming have you got permission of the council as its got a TPO on it as its an oak tree and all oak trees have TPO,s when I said no permission of council but written permission of the EA, her reply was rubbish its nothing to do with the EA its the council ,I rang the land owner and explained the situation , he said this is 3rd time today her she's been to farm twice all ready about carting slurry, he turned up with letter and sorted but tree is still there as she put a stop to it , six WK latter she's back at farm asking for the ditch to be made wider as she had just been flooded in her kitchen and garage, some people just have nothing better to do l,am afraid if she had,not stuck her oar in she would of not been flooded.

Em,stihl 260 all the way have 4 of them 1 battered and bruised 2004 and 3 2009 models (1 still in the box) ready to replace the 2004 when it gives up ? My experience with huskys are not good had 1 years ago for a short time .1 lad who works with us has huskys 550 & 560,560 seems to be a pig to start 10-15 pulls every time and they say its right his 550 seems a better balanced saw and as for the 261 being a crock of site ? Its like all machinery if you maintain it correctly it will be fine there's 1 of my lads got a 261 2011 never gives any trouble revs its nut's of 8 hours a day but it gets looked after.

Hi I have a 54 plate 3.0ltr swb cabstar tipper had it 6 years now and has been a fantastic workhorse and it has been aides, good points are very reliable, very manoverable in tight spaces,good on fuel compared to others, parts easy to get hold of (if needed), very gutsy with plenty of power, I tow a 10ft Ifor tipper with cage sides and think nothing of loading bothe trailer and pick up to the limit or more often above limit it doesn't look overloaded and pulls trailer along happily. Bad points gears are a bit clunky,not the softest of rides in the world, seats are not comfortable (not a truck for riding long distance in)but its a work horse and I bought it to do a job that it does very well, had transits in the past but this cabstar doubly been hear the longest and no planes to get rid of it for as long as I can see , rust issues are not bad but you have to maintain things and look after them and they will be fine.

SORRY about this but if you are a loler inspector i suggest you do a little homework before you quote that a timber crane has to be loler inspexted, because it does NOT and it does have something to do with where the controlls are mounted, HSE page lifting equipment in forestry quotes. Tree harvesters & forwarders with appropiate protective structors will NOT require thorough examination. Equipment used in forestry does not require thorough examination where 1, it does not lift over people 2, the opporator of equipment protected by a roll over protection system (ROPS) or tip over protection system (TOPS) and a falling object protection system (FOPS) or oporator protection system (OPS) you quote that a timber crane and its grab are covered by loler and must be subject to a thorough examination every 12 monthes,is the HSE page wrong or are you wrong, i cant say what i would like to say on here but a loler inspector tryed this one on me and failed big time its called taking money ///////////////////////////////////////// ????????????>

I dont see the reason for all the jibes and pokes at what Nick is charging to load and deliver this timber,?,If i did not have the access to the amount ot timber that i do have and was more local to this I for sure would be putting my name forward for 4 or 5 load as there is good money to be made out of this, softwood firewood del into my yard £42 a tonne and the haulage is only 6 miles. Think about it ???.

Hi that link LGP eddie has put up is the one you want i put 4 of them on the back of our tractor for when the forwarding trailer is on lights up evry thing i need to see and more besides, and that price you can renew them every year if need be,go for it.

that winch is the same as ours but marketed under a different name ours came from a 4x4 shop on a certain auction site but was half the price as the one on your link, great pice of kit thou.

Is that your final answer ? you wont go wrong with an ifor far better resale value than the others,i was looking at a 2014 buffalo tipperon fle bay not far from you john same spec as ifor tt3017 very clean trailer he got £2450 for it a ten year old ifor will bring that,good decisione mind you if it takes as long to buy it as it has for you to make your mind up it will be £3500 + VAT.
