  5. Hi had both transit and now have a cabstar the transit seemed gutless compared to my cabstar that drags a 10ft Ifor tipping trailer with cage sides on loaded with log , think nothing of movie g 4-5 tonne of timber with it , cabstar is the 3 ltr not new but only done 64k , transit was a 52 plate cabstar 04 plate and now had 9 years and if it lasts will still have in 9 yes.
  6. My mum all ways told me that money doesn't grow on trees' well here is the evidence that it really doe's , can't wait to show her.
  7. NO Lawson leylandi cypress or hemlock, WHY NOT it all burns when dry, Lawson and sitka on my stove as I wright this gives good heat and better than some hardwoods , even if you take a mixture of both soft & hardwood your more likely to get a regular supply than being Choosey, I have several tree surgeons I collect timber from, I take some softwood but 70% I would say is hardwood and at the moment have more than I know what to do with.
  8. Can't believe no one has mentioned not going out & Mrs browns boys, not going out must be one of the best comedy's of recent times or is it crap ? Well I don't mind it as its full of quick one liners .
  9. I totally agree the comedy is like today's music crap, only fools n horses, George & Mildred ,the late great Ronnie barker in both porridge and the first open all hours and of course rising damp that they could not make today as it would not be politically correct for rigsby to take the piss out of Philips culture, some time back in the 80s when Chanel 4 first started I used to rush home from the local to watch the Paul hogan show, any one else do that.
  10. Hi I use a still expert, vented, seems comfortable got good ear defenders as well, on my second one now as first one fell out of the back window of the tractor then some arshole backed over it , quite surprised at how it stood up to it thou .put rain flap on back and seems OK. Buy anothere tomorrow .
  11. Manufacturer is a small agricultural engineering firm local to me , total cost not yet finalised, no photos as yet but they will be loaded on here in the future.
  12. The other 3 cube is for personal consumption and if you get a licence, WHY do you say you can't fell your own trees ? It don't matter who fells them .
  13. What would you like to know, ? I can tell you I am heavily involved in it and all components used are all top notch for max reliability I.e kubota, Eton Vickers, char Lyme etc.
  14. Grants available for planting , fencing , gates then a ten year maintenance payment a lot of new woodland being created in the northwest at present.
  15. J , I can tell you there is a 8 WD mini forwarder being built in the UK at the moment that will be sub 2 tonne, carry 2.5+ tonne 45hp 8 wheel hydrostatic drive.
  16. If it was not for the forestry act and the forestry commission putting rules and regulations in place there would be no trees left, a felling licence does not cost only the price of a stamp.
  17. 6p per tree don't seem much to me , who you working for ? Roughly 250 trees per hour so 8 hr working day = £120 a day then all that traveling on top + fuel expended etc , can you not bnb it and spend more time planting as once your there your there and off set your costs against each other . last time I planted sitka was 2 yes ago on a steepish bank in to unpreped groud and got 15p per tree did some hardwoods last Feb/march and got 75p per tree tubed and staked . if you go on the forestry commission website (which is massive ) you will find guides to pricing don't ask me how to find the page as I couldn't tell you but its a very helpful pays when you find it, but at 6p a tree some one is having your pants down .
  18. Thinings are a bit harder than clear fells , you have the kit to do the job ,we have just got a 180-200 tonne clear fell job been told its just firewood so bid £12 a tonne at it but its mainly beech and descent trees 500-750 dbh which ain't firewood to me its furniture timber which doubles are money so a little different also got a small thinking job for back end of year but only about 30 tonnish. If its your first job at this game do it you will learn as you go along. Wet that's the vain of my life at present and with forecast over night up here probably up to my knees I snow tomorrow.
  19. 15p a tree is not bad just get your bag loaded head down and keep going 1500 - 2000 a day and your making good money . A few years ago there was a program on TV called worlds toughest jobs one guy was 5000 trees a day for 12 wks then had 40 wks holiday.
  20. £15 cube extracted ? You felling and extracting it with your kit ? .is it a clear fell or thinings and what is £450 a day for I.e how many men and machines ? £15 a cube is bang on the mark for hardwood and you should be able to make money out of it at that .
  21. Softwood nothing wrong with it at all ,I tend to burn more softwood these days as customers just seem to be so brainwashed that it is no good, so I will sell the hardwood to customers at a premium price and burn softwood myself , currently on Lawson cypress burns well and smells fantastic. Most of my work is in commercial forestry so I have more softwood than I know what to do with but do have a do at selling just softwood at reduced rates in may June July & august and seem to get rid of a fair bit.
  22. Hi we have never had a felling licence through in ten weeks last one was 5 1/2 months if your tilhill or euroforest it may be ten WK but tilhill and euroforest proberbly apply for several every WK .
  23. Hi I have used a Nissan cabstar for last 9 yrs and can't fault it, its the old 3 ltr one pulls like a train no matter how much weight I put on it, very good in tight spaces, fairly good on fuel, body is 10x6 ft and put 3 cube on it which is a slightly heaped load.
  24. Hi good pair of boots working in forestry should last 3-4 years if looked after mine are the basic still ranger and had for 4 years now, soles are in great condition with plenty of tread left ( no tarmac or concrete to where the soles out in the woods) but insides are now going done new pair coming soon which will be meindl wood walkers.
