  1. 3 hung up windblown spruce all on the same root plate but trees stacked above each other, so root plate about 18--20ft high cutting the bottom tree got saw stuck so got another saw finished cut, when bottom tree parted from the root plate the rest of the root plate and trees collapsed and noway on this earth was i going to try and grab the saw hence it ended up being driven in to the ground with 2 big spruce sat on top of it,,, Oh F--k , 8 month old 461 so thats best part of a grand gone in about 1 second, but on a brighter note the air filter is ok . took bar n chain off and it started .

  6. it pays to shop around, sometimes it can pay dividends, recently i was searching the net every evening looking for a particular hydraulic pump around 80cc per rev the pump on eaton vickers website £2780 plus vat as i was in no big panick for the pump i just kept looking then came across a hydraulic co that was closing got the pump i needed for £50 plus £15 carrige so as the saying goes patience pays. my big pet hate is costa lot coffee only been once 2 coffees 2 buns £11.80 never again jar of coffee in aldi £2.09 for about 50 cup full and 89p for 4 buns.
  7. SORRY don't agree trees will always be here gas wont,
  8. I think I would be firing that accountant off, business lease is 100% tax deductible that's why there are so many 4x4 pickups about these days.
  9. Hi all we still have a few load of softwood firewood left for sale from a Windblown clearanc job, the timber is dead and 90% of it is well seasoned most of it came down about 3 yrs ago delivery will be via 6 wheel timber lorry and drag trailer 2x2.5 mtr bays on lorry and same on the trailer each bag will be stacked to the top of the balster pins with a rough weight of 18-20 tonne. If it was fresh felled weight would be in the region of 33-35 tonne. The timber is £1200 per load + haulage depending on post code for more information and haulage quote phone Gary on 07763013024.
  10. Agreed approx 30 yrs using saws before I did any tickets all private jobs , it was only when I got a chance to go subbing for one of the uk,s biggest forestry company's that I had to do the tickets , and yes I did learn something all thou not a lot but some things that I was doing i lernt a easier or quicker way , now a days i see lads using saws and they look like they are shit scared of it and in my book there the ones who will be paying the hospital a visit , some guys who have got tickets imo will never be able to use a saw swiftly and safely ,as long as they have a hole in there a__e .
  11. Hi i have a igland 4201 on a 40hp kubota it's not on remotes, but wish I had got the remote kit when I bought it ,good solid but very simple winch been used a fair bit and seems to pull well for its size.
  12. Hi NPTC city and guilds all the time may be more expensive but more company's & organizations recognize NPTC.

  15. Totally agree with the above better resale value with ifor and a proven bit of kit, just look on fleabag and your answer is there e.g 2 yr old Nugent £1750 Brian James £1500 ifor £2200 other trailers seem to be cheap as chips ? But who Buys them I wouldn't , as i wouldnt consider owt but ifor far cheaper per mile/year to own.
  16. J go for the triple with what your doing , load spread over 3 axles and 6 wheels better braking over 6 wheels a d should be a lot more stable when towing .
  17. Just runic on a 18" bar good combination . I have some new parts for a 038 in my shed some where a exhaust and a recoil starter housing and there may be more.
  18. Well that's no sugi bars to me then ! Not good customer service that post .
  19. Hi, as said before some teeth are difficult to sharpen and some seem softer ? As for the service ordered 15 chains and a 20" 3/8 bar when delivered holes in bag, no bar and 4 chains missing wasn't there fault but may be packaging could be better to save the hasel of having to ring and sort out, was sorted quickly and order made good cutting wise OK but just use them on domestic jobs now, so its back to Oregon for commercial cutting in the woods.
  20. Nowt dodgy about it ,its 20ft behind him and its more like bad camera angle, tree hung up in top of a lodgepole and a birch had to put a cut in birch then pull spruce and birch + half of lodgepole with tractor no way that was going to fall.
  21. Tractor is Kubota l3250 4wd 40hp , move it about on 10ft ifor trailer works well for us as its only 5ft wide so can get down between rows of trees without taking any thing down.
  22. Hi this was the job today and for next month or so windblown and standing sitka
  23. Best things for removing sitka resin I have found over the years are methes and a more modern addition is them lenses /glasses cleaning wipes out of aldi, cutting spruce at the moment, was standing but its now on the floor in a right tangled up mess some over fence in to field so more work.
  24. Yes totally agree some tutors are complete bellends ant the odd assessor who's an arsehole , only thing to add to this is left thumb round the front handle and not along side it, print the criteria sheet of the NPTC website and read it till you have memorised it and there's plenty of vids on YouTube to watch ,all the best and good luck with it ,stay calm and relaxed its not about how fast you can do it, its doing it in a safe controlled manor.
