  1. I would have suggested a pedestrian flail, but the cut down rotary looks like the next best thing, safety aside
  2. Thanks for the replies, Ive seen quite a few boughs that didnt seem to have a good reason to fall down, I will try to be more observant and note whether they snap away from the trunk as opposed to the usual tearing at the union, and what the weather was like on the day.
  3. For the unenlightened, is there an accepted cause?
  4. Thanks, its the most productive gadget on our farm, and opens out next month for Walnuts:biggrin:
  5. Many Zetor models had a battery isolator, if yours doesnt, then you can get them to retrofit, this would save the 5 min dash for the spanner! If you get the solenoid apart you will probably see evidence of what caused it, it may even still be fused together
  6. Im sure the guys on here will be coming forward with plenty of advice, some humorous some serious, but all wishing you the best of luck with you new addition. A few years ago for me, but we had a book with all sorts of advice about these things, like put them to bed and let them cry themselves to sleep, we used to call it screaming practice. If that isnt working 888 on teletext was the subtitles (showing my age)
  7. Steve. I think (but Im not sure) that hazels are not self fertile, so need another tree in the neighbourhood for the catkins to pollinate your tree. Even though we have loads of hazel on the farm the crop is variable, sometimes some bushes with loads and the next door one not. This year bumper crop!
  8. We have a pair of Binatone 750, work well for what we need, farm/shoot
  9. So, to summarize, the most tiring occupation is being civil to people when your instincts are to have a pop. This is particularly obvious with your in-laws, and crystallized perfectly when a.) you are beholden for a roof over your head and b.) Sunday morning ... would be off the cards if there were any ruffled feathers. after nearly a lifetime of study, I have come to the conclusion that honest graft and sweat is almost enjoyable, it is hassle that turns it into a chore Sheep shearing on the other hand looks virtually untouchable,
  10. seconded, ground level , it will make a wonderful hedge within a year, cut at 4ft, it will always be leggy
  11. ive got seasoned ash and alder J6 M25
  12. Sounds like a broad description of life, I completely sympathize, you could always try sheep- Ive got a stack of Ash and Alder, but there doesnt seem to be much interest in it:confused1:
  13. I hope Im not the only one, but Ive never heard of it before, what are the usual symptoms of poisoning
  14. without finding my glasses, can someone assure me that we are looking at a seal and not a bearing with a seal??
  15. Aha, life is always more complicated than we imagine, I hadnt even thought of that, although I still have recurring dreams of heading round to Barnes to the RVC with a very sick newborn foal when the whole LEZ had just come in, 1:30am and took a wrong turn and headed for a fine. Is it OK to just duct tape the number plate?
  16. quite tasty, you have to cook it gently so as not to dry it out. mmm:biggrin:
  17. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/milling-forum/100681-timber-moving.html
  18. its not too far to Rugby from you? http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/firewood-forum/101074-vast-amount-arb-timber-going-spare-rugby.html
  19. mannswood coppice products - Makers - Coppice Products We use this and its good stuff,
  20. in many systems the hyd oil is filtered on return,so that wont remove bits of o ring from the pump for example, interesting article on suction strainers, but who would propose you let combined gearbox and hydraulic oil into a pump without a filter one thing I would emphasize is to stick to your guns if the dealer or manufacturer is pointing fingers at you. The easiest getout they have is to put it down to something the customer has done, even if that is almost totally implausible. I found an 11/16 in ball bearing rattling around in a tractor gearbox, the manufacturers denied that it was anything to do with them as none were called up anywhere on that tractor, no one could have placed it there except me or someone on the production line, all I got was a muted apology after I offered to have the metallurgists look at it.
  21. Agreed, except this year everyones got grass coming out of their ears and dodgy paddocks with no fencing or water come at the bottom of the price range, maybe park the rams there till November, but thats not going to turn it into the bowling green of dreams!
  22. looks like it would take a morning just to open the gate! In the book of words pasture topping and setsaide topping both are listed at ££13.20 per acre, bearing in mind pasture would be grazed off before hand and setaside would be in 50 acre fields but quite heavy going, 6 years worth of mole hills and you have got to be talking £250 for the job, add on your brushcutter round the boundry...
  23. Could you speak to the boffins so that Avatars appear as "current at the time of postings" I thought I had had one too many Stellas, and then it turned into a bird!
  24. you can either hire in the proper guys which is probably the most reliable, but I moved one that size by digging round it and shovelling it up in the telehandler bucket, any success is more likely down to aftercare!
