I've no experience of a tracked tractor, but have you looked at tracked dumpers? Something in the 1t-2t range? You'd get a second hand one quite easily, and it should hold it's money and be fairly easy to sell on if ever needed.

I've got a number of IBC cages spare if they're of use to anyone on here. They've been cut down in height by a couple of rows, but you can double them up and tie them together. No pallets or tanks, just the cages.

Can you not get a pipe in the stream further up, to avoid pumping. Just reminded me of chatting to a couple of council workers who were putting a pipe in a burn for an animal trough. Don't know why the (cash strapped) council was doing it and not the farmer, maybe it has to be done "properly" to tick the boxes. It was just a length of mdpe wedged under a stone.

A bigger gate Finger bar on an excavator? You haven't posted a photo. How thick is the stuff you're trying to cut? The chainsaw hedgecutter attachment is useful but pricey for what it is

I made a small pond in the garden this year (with a solar powered fountain), first wildlife I saw in it was a dead hedgehog . (the pond has a ramp but that clearly didn't help) I don't think I've ever seen a live hedgehog!

Just wondering what paint/rust treatment people are using for painting underneath vehicles, chassis etc. We're not talking classic restoration here, just old workhorses that you want to get a few more years out of. Found 2 frogs/toads in this pile I was doing yesterday, they were lucky I spotted them before them got squashed The logs had been there for many years, and were really well stuck together, took a fair bit of effort just to separate them.

Knock off high lift jack from ebay. Had one already for 2yrs, just got a 2nd one. Probably not as good as the real thing, but good enough for me £36 in total - delivered! Some places would charge you 20 quid just for the p+p on a small box to the Highlands

I would've thought the best thing (for one or two trees) would be ring it up with a chainsaw, then a go through it with good splitter

Same, I don't like answering to numbers that aren't local as it will often be junk, but sometimes it does surprise me and you'll get someone with a holiday home or whatever. In saying that, don't think anything good has ever came from a London (020) call

I haven't got the long reach, I've got the 28" cut 'handheld' hedge cutter. The advantage with the backpack batteries is the machine is kept very light. The machine only deal, I was more meaning from a customers point of view, it might end up costing £300 + a day of their time, and as a newbie to the machine, how much would they actually get through?

I've heard there's someone round here who does tractor, firewood processor, and 2 men for 250 a day Maybe there's extras like mileage, fuel/vat on top, I don't know. At the other end of the scale, a local dealer is hiring out a road tow farmi, machine only, think the price was 250, so that's excluding delivery, fuel and operator.

I wonder if there would be any benefit to killing the tree with glyphosate first, then felling once you knew it was dead, as it would "suck the energy" out of the roots?

Bump! Well it's been a busy year, this job is still on my to do list. Truck is finally going in for an mot tomorrow "bare", only mudguards on the back. Assuming she passes she will then be ready to drive anywhere in the country to collect a new body. Dropside (non tipping) would be fine

It's a bit like though, on a job with a digger, and you have to bury boulders just to get rid of the feckin things. But there's this mad place where people go and actually buy rocks! (think they call it a quarry?)

Husqvarna do a "small" size backpack at 15.6ah, 7.9kg. To be honest you don't feel the weight as it's on your back, and the harness is so good. Means there's no battery weight on the machine so that's lighter on your arms.
