  1. Well......I didn't want to say, he also got an extra charge for grease - seems he likes a bit of grease
  2. I don't have to work on your saws you know I haven't barred anyone to date but think I will make an exception. Do you know I charge for this - it will be called "sundries" on the invoice but its literal translation is "taking the piss out of the customers" I know you love it
  3. You sure about that, I thought they were shyte until I fixed em
  4. A bit of a way from North Herts, will have to see what the owner reckons!
  5. Plenty of life left in this one!
  6. I have a freshly ported 088 that sounds a bit hungry, I think it may be a bit bonkers but won't know until it is wearing a big bar and is shown a big lump of wood
  7. I have learnt that good tradesmen make a job look simple and almost as though anybody can do it but in reality, when you try to do it yourself, it isn't quite as easy as you had thought it to be. I find that sometimes, these tradesmen forget the years of experience they have gained and the value this has to their customers. In my experience, the guys that are most vocal are the ones that don't know and the ones that smile from a distance are the ones with the true knowledge....just saying!
  8. No, not this time, it is up again, stated as not being a real Husqvarna and still making £108 with three days to go. After reporting it twice and putting a post on here, I declare people are stupid and a fool and his money are easily parted! What more can you do!!
  9. Glad you are happy PJ, I hate those stone cutters but worth repairing in the end. Glad the 357 is working well, thought it would after having a new piston and they often need a tweak once they have a bit of fuel through them - just glad the courier could tell the difference between Birmingham and Eire
  10. Best keep where you are and look after your saws as nothing out there compares.....as Sinead warbled about!
  11. Glad you are happy, I could tell that you thought the bad running couldn't be contributed to the oily air filter but there you go. The rest is just....Alchemy
  12. So the problem with a few years chainsaw production is the metal the drums are made of.....it isn't like Stihl haven't made a few million chainsaws in their time So what's the excuse with the MS362? I have had quite a number in now with the same issue! Funny that I have never needed to change a bearing on a MS200 and 066/MS660s seem to go on forever
  13. Stihl put a big ole hole in the choke plate and have done away with the fast idle setting unless on full choke - it basically makes it more simple and therefore doesn't work as well as it should as if you try to start it when warm, full choke can flood it but the normal run position can be a bit hit and miss.....we will call this Progression through technology!
  14. I surmise that people ARE stupid!
  15. Carlisle - that's Ooooooooppp North isn't it, damn, I don't go up there
  16. Damn, does that mean we can't test ported saws, drink tea and eat cucumber sarnies
  17. Replacing a top end on an older bottom end is fine as long as the bottom end is checked over, pressure/vacuum checked and the carb/fuel system is inspected to make sure it is doing what it should. If a top end seizes then you have to do all the checks to make sure it doesn't happen again with the new top end - some get lazy though!
  18. You will like it, they get pretty leery with porting and must be one of the best saws to get ported.
  19. Yes, the port timing has remained standard on this one.
  20. How about a day out at this farmers field, we can try out each others saws, I will bring some of my exotica down and create some cookies in ......well....a few seconds. All welcome, tea and cucumber sarnies, best china and two stroke....what a life
  21. The nature of my business is such that I have to drain down many chainsaws and I would say that a large percentage have a large amount of fine debris in their fuel tanks. I often think that some of the woes attributed to Aspen may be some of this "shyte" being carried through the fuel system by the Aspen and then blamed on it. My advice would be to drain the tank a few times and purge with clean fuel until clean before changing to Aspen and expect machines that have been run on pump fuel for a long time will need new lines and carb parts as they harden.
  22. That was a vicious rumour!!!!
  23. A fair ending to this one, well done, group hug
  24. Been on this 088 today, sometimes there isn't a great deal of widening that can be done on the ports but you can gain port size by reshaping the port. Doing this has a similar effect as widening but the port must have a very defined arch shape to begin with and can't be "squared" too much otherwise the rings will snag and smash to top end. Doing this allows the machine to purge the combustion chamber of exhaust gasses faster and means you can reduce blowdown timing as the pressure in the combustion chamber will fall faster and allow a fresh charge of fuel/air in to the chamber earlier. Anyway - the first pic is the interesting one with half the port reshaped and the other half being standard - note the extra size of the modified side of the port. The second photo is the finished port.
  25. He may be single and missing female companionship......damn, did I say that
