  1. If one compares fuel prices to the 1970's crisis and the MPG that vehicles did then the current prices are not that drastic. Local fuel wholesaler said expect current prices to go up huge amounts over the next few years unless more is oil found around the world.
  2. Mowi do one.
  3. C.J.J Berry First steps in winemaking. ISBN 978-1-85486-139-9 One can use the same recipe for Sycamore and Walnut as with Birch (page 139). Needs to be tapped this week if possible and later in Scotland due to current weather. trees should be 8" diameter min to avoid harm.
  4. I have an old book on various wines. (Will dig out the ISBN and post here)
  5. Simple and basic tool that can be mended with a hammer:lol:
  6. Use a wheel barrow then the children can go to the woods as well. JOKE.
  7. Well I use the Stihl ones which are good leather and have protection on both hands. I treat these with leather oil and have heated handles on the saws so no soaking cold hands. Chainsaw manuals state chainsaw gloves should be worn and when I did the training moons ago was told then to wear protection based gloves at all times when using a saw. Insurance would hassle on payments in an accident but some do not insure hands/feet at all.
  8. ATV's were designed to be used on farms not in woods although are now being used in leisure logging. Mini tractors are much more suitable and can run on red with linkage for real winches. Boggy ground does cause problems as the ground clearance is less than most road going vehicles and large footplates to snag including on stumps. The laden trailers will cause problems on steep ground as the machines do not have to weight to gain traction. (FC did a report on using them in woods) dragging a small trailer with a few sheep in a damp field is much different. How much speed is needed in a woodland? The diesel versions can run on red and use much less fuel than a petrol and noise when working hard is much the same. These are made in the UK and have less mechs to go wrong. Farmrite Fabrications Diesel ATV
  9. A coastal town with 10,000 people missing is mind boggling. There has been a rescue of a 60 year old man floating on his roof 10 miles out at sea. Some good news in all the strife.
  10. STRESS= People who take three months to organise payments for work done. Council planning officers who mislead and tell open lies to the public and us. Rotten Scum who steal work equipment/tools needed to earn an income/pay the mortgage/feed the family.
  11. If a firm has used a business name/product name for more than a couple of years than it is protected under copyright laws.
  12. This is common in Birches. Tree clotting method to stop sap bleeding. Often has an orange tinge as well. The Russians tapped the Birches (to make a very strong booze) so much during the horse drawn era hundreds of acres were destroyed as the trees bleed to death.
  13. Why on earth is the fire service doing tree works. :001_rolleyes:The local council must have a tree team. How do they expect to then chop up the tree when in the middle of the road?
  14. I know a couple of lads who called the business "Fitzgerald and Rose Tree Services" following their surnames. (FARTS) No idea if this was deliberate or a mistake?
  15. OK on reasonable level firm woodland/farmland. (Useless on eggbox terrain and boggy land) Sites with much brash will cause problems. ATV's have no roll frame and I have seen several turned over whilst towing and snatching tree lengths. There are now some diesel versions available as the petrol ones use fuel when worked hard.
  16. I was working for a council doing up waste sites in Manchester. I asked the Worksite Manager if telephone/electric cables underground and told no so carried on using a large mole subsoiler with a tractor and the ground raised up behind so thinking it was old flagstones increased the revs and ripped up a 11.000KV line:001_rolleyes: (Very loud bang and flash) I had to high jump of the machine with feet close together to avoid being killed. Electric board said amazed I was still alive. 1,000+ homes without power at 4pm in wintertime. Moral:- Wear rubber wellies and gloves.
  17. I am staggered that Japan has 55 nuke stations in an area prone to land damage. Latest news from "Reuters" is risk zone now 12 miles and radioactive cloud has been released and 6 more nuke stations at severe risk of meltdown. (These were built in the 1970's) Wind direction is from the west accross the sea so the US should know within 48 hrs if there is problem. I still remember being told to stay inside for 24hrs in the UK from the Ukraine accident and the Lake/Peak District/Pennines/West Scotland which had heavy rain still have areas where livestock/food products cannot be eaten. Governments are often slow to inform the public. Looks like some help is needed there!
  18. I read something that the current climate problems have to do with the position of the moon and the current sun flares. The latest on the nuke station does not sound good. (we need to release some steam but no worries about what this contains. Local news there said to leave homes within 4 miles.) Unbelievable footage.
  19. I have a long line to do soon. Last time walked from top to top:lol:
  20. Found it in the new catalogue which arrived this afternoon. Small:- 080510320 £99.98 + VAT Large:- 080510325 £129.98 + VAT Page 30 Going to do some pressing this weekend on frozen fruit:thumbup:
  21. I have been told that the area this is in can now access various government sources of funding which in these times would be very helpful. Site meetings available. I am doing a PDF with info and pictures. Sorry for the delays to those who have asked. Having to resolve some hassle abroad.
  22. Where do all these stolen saws go to? Is there a market for them and who? I would not purchase used unless the person could prove ownership. (handling stolen property) Too much of this going on at the moment.
  23. Sorry typing in a hurry and not made sense. Yes both the 13" bar/chain and the largest bar/chain available for that model.
