  1. Still waiting so bulk trade prices on the 200 LTRS drums please.
  2. I could not believe this news when I was told. Should sack all of those involved. (Some Fire and Rescue Service) New sideline for those with aerial rescue experience. BBC News - Mineshaft death: What delayed Alison's Hume's rescue?
  3. At least in Wales most woodlands have a road at the bottom of a slope for loading. In Derbyshire often have to haul up the slopes. There was a branch removal/cross logging tool which worked from a tractor to use on thinnings that was produced in Finland and I will check if still made.
  4. (1)Telling us in the contract we had to burn on the lakeside/winch from the roadside as no machines allowed as drinking waters then letting a second firm take a Land Rover and chipping machine down to the edge. When we complained about double standards made us wait 3 months to be paid. (2)Height reduce a large evergreen hedge and the woman had planted new flowers at the base over the weekend. Seen that before so the large barrels appeared and covered them until the work done. Took of the trees nearest to the house down to ground level. Refused to agreed payment and said wanted stumps removed. So as it was lunchtime we blocked the drive and refused to move. Police were called and said would charge the woman with breach of the peace and wasting Police time unless we were paid in full. Paid in cash!!
  5. It needs to be fixed onto the vehicle to save time. 3mm/4mm steel looks a good idea with a full length piano style hinge to prevent damage.
  6. Great original idea to start with (National Forest) but now a huge waste of government funds and the BTCV do most of the free work. Some odd work done with horses for big PR stunts in the news and make them look viable in the office. I have attended several meetings (free food) and a private estate woodland's man said he wanted some foreign people from Poland instead of local firms and he could do the work for much less. The contractors list is a JOKE and we have told them the reason we wanted off the list.
  7. Is there someone who makes a large strong cross frame tool box and at a sensible price that can be used to store tools including chainsaws overnight in (is that sensible even alarmed) and when on work sites in areas when people like to borrow tools without permission:001_rolleyes: I have been spending much too long loading and unloading into safe storage which takes vital time from earnings. 8' Length. 3' Width. 6' Height. Sizes are a guide. Pictures/Links would be helpful.
  8. How do we change a picture and amend wording on posts when needed having been shown on the website? I tried but could not see a method having logged on.
  9. One should also remember all those civilians that died in numerous conflicts who had no choices. I saw someone wearing one of those white versions not sure what that means?
  10. We have used Iron Age pigs in woodlands for a long long time including around planted young trees with no issues. The woods are always much better condition than before the animals were introduced. Chatsworth Estate had use of them and were pleased including selling the meat in the farmshop. (Oak/Ash/Birch..... are now appearing where before there was a wasteland with brambles) The amount of ground disturbance is down to the people looking after the pigs and the skills and experience needed to do this. Some woods we had a light rotovation in and then moved on and one I remember where all the old stone walls were fallen down was cleared down to 8" at the request of the landowners and the stone collected to use again and all the rubbish thrown in from the roadside removed. (Good for treasure sources) Nose rings are an old fashioned and unoutdated and considered a cruel needless method and not allowed in organic production and sales! I will find some pictures and post to show different sites and conditions. Good for bracken removal where spraying is unwanted/not cost effective.
  11. Stolen from Markeaton Park in Derbyshire around 5AM on Thursday 10th November. White Iveco with a Yellow Versalift ET38NF. Vehicle registration is Y 83 KDK. Contact Derbyshire Police/Crimestoppers. (Not mine but worth posting to make people aware and incase there is a pattern)
  12. Thanks for the kind offer! The freight prices for drivers also include meals I am told.
  13. A couple of acres to keep on? The pigs will have it turned over in a few weeks and then cost much in feed. We had a large herd of Iron Age pigs (Tamworth/Wildboar cross) and moved them from wood to wood after thinning. Worked well.
  14. I have a slight problem Sensible ideas welcome. Received several prices but the width is 2.6M (small section of steel) and the freight will not be safe to be shipped standing upright/facing downwards (some lateral thinking I did which would reduce width to 1.5M) Haulage firms said vehicle widths are between 2.400M and 2.550M but some foreign trucks have board sides below the canvas. In Denmark no transport issues at all and into Sweden so cannot understand the reason across the sea on a large freight vessel. Looks like I will have to collect direct and have some nice Danish food and booze.
  15. Exhaust the results of too much flexing in the woods and road salts. It might be of interest to those running a business that Halfords now have a trade account that allows large discounts on vehicles spares including wiper blades/oils/bulbs/tools............... and one does not have to be a vehicle business!
  16. Now the clocks have gone back and it's dull with mist I need a decent work light on the chainsaw helmet to continue firewood logging and stacking. Seen some extreme bright lights on the local mountain bikes.
  17. Came here with the Romans I think? Makes nice firewood and we produce chopping/cheese boards bowls and some wooden products from the ripple version as is the wood on the back of a violin. Too much tree racism at times.
  18. Hand signals are a good idea but I think all tree climbers should do a decent time as a groundsperson to understand both sides of the work and not assume all are mindless. There are times like when looking up into bright sunshine is difficult when radios should be used. I have done both for a long time.
  19. Still available so if needing a useful worksite please PM.
  20. 240R Brushcutter. New plug - fuel filter - air filter (woodmice sods chewed the last one) - two metal springs on the flywheel - fuel tank seal - section of starting cord and good for another 12 months work.
  21. There are several seperate posts now on this and confused.
  22. Here is the one we have at present. Likes to swim and sleep in the snow. Unusual German Shepherd.
  23. Private snow clearance use is the same as private tree work use so machine would have to run on white diesel unlike on council public roads where red is allowed unless salting. (I was told sand/gravel spreading is considered different as less common here and therefore OK on red) The local council here said last two seasons could manage but did not then gave me a week this time to price for work in rural rough roads some with grass growing in the middle!! Still waiting to have a response and told no decisions to date but interested in the machine and attachments available.
  24. All will be uncovered soon.
