  1. HMRC would reduce the rules on fuel tax if an exhaust pipe was in the face of them all the time. Watch a chainsaw at -20C to see where the fumes go to. I did speak to the HSE at the APF and terrible response.
  2. Aspen Fuel is made from mineral oil production like normal unleaded petrol but has numerous harmfull items taken out/not added. It is not from a natural grown source like rapeseed chain oil. We asked Jeremy Pilch to start importing this into the UK having been to Norway a long time ago and seen the difference.
  3. Used to use all the time but much more expensive now. I asked HMRC to reduce the rates to that of Agricultural diesel but it refused.
  4. Fuelwood Specials Page Number 21/22 at the bottom of the page.
  5. Like this? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdXzaGFkWfU]Wood Cutting & Splitting Attachment - YouTube[/ame]
  6. These folks make good tanks and will custom produce. (we have a tractor linkage 500LTRS version) Fuel storage tanks bunded fuel bowsers
  7. There are covert alarms that go under products/vehicles and when moved send an SMS to the mobile so one can decide on which action to take.
  8. Is there a standard timescale for councils on Tenders/Quotes and do the offices ALWAYS take the lowest price? (I mean between the closing dates and informing people) That's assuming these times with costs it does contact people back.
  9. Cost effective method to make tractors and trucks. (chainsaws and tools can also be done) CESAR - Construction Equipment Security And Registration
  10. Same idea but like thick grease and a nightmare to remove from humans. Treat certain areas and warning sign the firewood stacks. Worked in this area. There is an alternative rural method but I cannot post on the open forum. SelectaDNA Forensic Coding
  11. Yew clippings can be sold to make drugs that fight certain cancers.
  12. Use smart grease on some areas.
  13. Highway Code:- "Do not hold up a long queue of traffic, especially if you are driving a large or slow moving vehicle. Check your mirrors frequently. and if necessary, pull in where it is safe and let traffic pass". Penalty Table:- Careless and inconsiderate driving - £5000 Fine. Disqualification - Discretionary. Penalty Points - 3-9. Tractors from the 1st January 1947 must be a flashing amber beacon. An SMV triangle should be installed now due to the EU regulations. (this includes all trailers/attachments) Some areas both VOSA and the Police are now checking Agricultural/Forestry vehicles as lights/mirrors/brakes/wipers....... must be legal and working if original fitment so be warned. I drive a 40MPH version so we do not hold traffic up on rural roads and if we have six vehicles behind will move over to allow passing.
  14. We were working in a remote area of Macclesfield Forest when a couple of Black armoured V8 4x4's appeared and the people inside were armed to the teeth. The man in charge asked if we lived in these woods and we said no. Vehicles unloaded and a while on teams came back with an arrested man. Turned out some lost ramblers had found a handmade log cabin deep in the forest and this was at the time the IRA had a cell that had been known to hide with weapons in this area. (The man arrested was a homeless person who had built this over a period of time and lived in peace with nature)
  15. Used to have those from the firm in Sheffield that made them for the two main chainsaw brands and these lasted a long time but now expensive and different materials so have used SIP and think reasonable. All makes of trousers have worn/ripped in the groin and ankle/bottom of leg areas and needed mending. The groin area is the one place there is no PPE!!
  16. Look at this one. It would make climbers have sleepless nights. DOLL Tree Trimmer - DOLL Fahrzeugbau AG Click on the video link. Odd paintwork!!
  17. Strathclyde Fire and Rescue - Contact Us You can always tell them direct!
  18. I would be interested to see the trade prices of Aspen (not retail to leisure purchasers) in all the countries it is sold in as Norwegian purchases are tax free and in Sweden reduced rates. Not sure elsewhere?
  19. Little Britain
  20. Yes. This evening I came across some waterpipe roadworks and the warning signs were all correct including distances however the portable traffic lights were running both on Green - Green / Red - Red at the same time both directions so almost had a head on crash with a van. Stopped to mention this to the eight blokes stood around looking down a hole and the response from the boss was "this is how it should be". The Irish lad said to him "even in Ireland this would not happen"........ I thought all roadworks people had to go on a training course now?
  21. We often work in snow and wet conditions on rough ground and wore out several of the orange rubber chain boots in six weeks from new. (Stihl) checked them in Germany at the R and D office and said we walked around too much in the woods behind the horses. We now use some leather/rubber versions from Canada and will check on the brand.
  22. Fuel used in harvesters/skidding tractors/the trucks used to transport tree lengths/the large chipping machine all to produce a single cube of woodchips. That's without the original purchase costs/servicing/mending. I was involved in the first practical stages of woodfuel heating chipping in the UK a long time ago and am happy to be out now as still numerous issues there that need to be resolved. FC wanted the wood weighed when fresh felled and the large plant furnace wanted to purchase at 14% moisture content and paid on the oven dried ton. Coppice local logs are sustainable.
  23. There are some good electric chainsaws around to use for leisure firewood cutting on a sawhorse.
  24. OK and the current fuel tax rates on a litre of fuel?
  25. In the northern countries Spruce - Pine - Birch are the most common woods and people manage to keep warm. I have also planted loads of Eucalyptus and high prune each season and use a leaf and horse muck mulch which makes the growth rates high. Frost does not seem to effect certain species of them as Australia has them in the mountains with snow and ice. The main issue I can see is the huge amount of mineral diesel used at present to process a single tree into so called green sustainable fuels. Some I know are using 2000LTRS in 12hrs.
