  1. Peat water is not good for saws. Nice work site reminds me of Rostherne Mere.
  2. I had the 3/4 ton NATO single axle trailer (used for logging and firewood) and a large custom built single axle horse trailer to take two Clydedales in. 101GS towed well all over the place on original Goodyears. The 2A is somewhere in the USA now.
  3. It's the one most like it in the house plants book we have which is so old has not even an ISBN.
  4. I ran a SWB 2A for 10 years with much towing and weekend trials and then a 101GS. Simple and basic to mend but do need much maintenance when worked hard. I could never understand how the 90's can tow 3.500KG and all different makes of 4x4 some which weighed more could not legally. Should have made them with axle locks.
  5. mix with manure to make tree planting composts.
  6. Stopping making them soon and new version will no longer have a removable chassis. Worth considering the Santana Iveco version with a nice reliable diesel engine and bodywork fixed to the chassis like the Mercedes GD. Most reliable LR was the Series 2A. When LR produced the Series 3 the Australians moved to the Land Cruisers and never looked back.
  7. I had not seen this posting before but a frend of mine who is a nurse said 300+ men in the UK have breast cancer every year. I had never heard of this and thought it was a womans problem.
  8. I think in the "Ficus" range. Creeping/Weeping Fig. (Ficus Pumila/Ficus Repens) What colour are the flowers?
  9. Several years ago I had seen some BT men installing new fibre optic cables beside the main road where we are based in Derbyshire. I checked with them and was told possible to have high speed broadband now. I did all the forms and credit check with BT and someone came down and marked the area to dig and left us some Grey plastic pipes with a cord to pull line new through. STILL WAITING and can at present access 1MB. Advice and ideas? A different method of broadband?
  10. Good idea as Land Rover's are so simple to steal and broken for spares and the panels weighed in.
  11. Some contracts we had were 30 pages. Too much of this nonsence going on at present. Often unrealistic clauses hidden between pages. We started giving the person involved a single page form to sign stating this contract overulled that in the event of a dispute. I told them if I had to spend much time reading office work instead of getting on with the real work would have to charge.
  12. Good fences make good neighbours.
  13. When:- Waterproofs were a couple of hessian sacks on the legs and shoulders. Combi Cans were in steel and the fillers brass with gauze filters and rubber seals. Chainsaws had no chain brake (A65) People were taught to think instead of all the HSE blah blah. 2A Land Rovers had a starting handle behind the seats for cold mornings. Red phoneboxes instead of mobiles that don't work in dark woods. One could leave tools overnight on the worksite unlocked. Burning as much brash as one wanted. No road cones nonsense. Paid the same rate at weekends. Flasks that poured broken glass into a brew.
  14. Wooden ladders are very useful.
  15. Insurance laws are made with NFU much involvement and discussion. (I have friends who work there) Road Traffic and HMRC/VOSA laws are given advice again from the NFU who are fighting for Agricultural/Forestry rights all the time. (There were various meetings held around the UK the public could attend before the latest batch of laws/rules published on red diesel) Hope that explains some of the nightmare rules and regulations.
  16. Everything goes up but the wages and log rates. In the current economic climate with so many young people without work something full time at a reasonable rate is much better than nothing at all?
  17. I was told a max of 200 LTRS is considered OK provided in UN approved drum unless using the standard 20Ltrs fuel cans.
  18. Unless from Agricultural/Forestry use and the NFU insure one to do this then that is legal. NFU insurance document does allow haulage on red diesel from farms and forests with own produce back to base.
  19. Chainsaw Collectors.se :: View topic - Cliff's Bow Saw Collection
  20. I asked the HMRC this a long time ago and even with external taps that could not be controlled from the cabin whilst driving along then no. HSE said very unhappy about often draining tanks on work sites. I was told in a verbal fashion from HMRC office that a removable tank/drum on the back with pipes to use when on private sites is allowed but not common knowledge and must have connections removed again before going back onto public roads. (like 20ltrs UN approved)
  21. A single use shipping container is the best price. We have 10' and 20' from these people:- Container Rent & Hire | Containers for Sale & Shipping | Burton | Branston | Uttoxeter | Stafford | Foston | Tamworth
  22. Yes often with organic Spelt flour. We grown our own vegetables and have 14 gallons of various rural wines on the go at present much is given as Christmas presents.
  23. We had some false alarms but then caught someone at 3.00am
