  1. I would be ashamed to give you a saw to work on in such a state! I'll drop off the HL75 with the faulty primer when I pick up the hedgecutter, kombi, saw & carb - don't want you getting bored on a Sunday. Many thanks for all your outstanding work and advice.
  2. I received a flyer the other day from a firm just north of Stamford. I'll see if i can find it.
  3. I've have a few eye problems. The retina in my left eye has detached on two occasions and after 5 ops to correct that, all the trauma to the eye resulted in a cataract forming, which has now been removed. It doesn't sound like your retina detached so may not be the same as mine but i was warned to avoid impacts on the eye, so no boxing or squash. On both occasions i was told that i could continue playing rugby tho.
  4. What he said.
  5. Just got round to reading the latest The Arb Magazine and saw the article at the bottom of page 11. "Kent tree surgeon fined over worker's injuries". Hope the mending is going well Davyd.
  6. I like your thinking but unfortunately theres a car port that would be in the way. The tree is in Whittlesford (about 6 miles south of Cambridge). Picture attached: They want the stump (approx 3ft-ish) and the mound that it sits on removed.
  7. Got to quote for a stump that's far too big for my little pedestrian SG. Problem is the only access to it is a standard size gate. Can post a picture if anyone is interested. Cheers, Ed.
  8. You wont get it much better than Jonsie's web price. When i bought a 660 a few years back jonsie knocked £20 of his usual price and that was the best price any of the traders would do.

    Bracing

Totally agree with Peter - leave the wire cable in place. I can't understand why the cobra cable was installed so close to the original support. If it was needed at all, I would have put it a lot higher in the crown.
  10. I had the same problem a couple of years ago, it's a nightmare trying to find the right person to speak to.It was very expensive, cost me around £200 for having a line droped for up to 2 hours. Since then I did a job for an ex BT engineer who showed me how to disconnect the line fro the house end - sweet.
  11. Go for button braces rather than the the clip on braces.
  12. If anyone wants to see it, it's on Trumpington road (A1134). It' the new gates for St.Faiths school so don't stand staring too long or you might be arrested. There is also a fantastic wood sculpture of a dragon on this site by Tim Atkins. Can't link a picture but it's on his website - http://www.chaincreations.co.uk
  13. Here you go.
  14. I had a 260 that would do that regularly. I'm sure that it was the oil cap that wasn't sealing properly.
  15. I do have a one-man dolmar with a 6 inch auger that i've used twice. It cost over three hundred pounds so would want a couple hundred back for it.
  16. Hi Nathan, just what to try and explain a bit about growth points. Sorry if i'm trying to teach you what you already know but you seem to think that plenty of growth points were left. BS says that you should aim to leave growth points that are one third of the size of the branch that you are cutting back (if that makes sense), basically if you don't leave a sufficient size growth point then the tree will react the same as if you didn't leave one at all. It sounds like your boss hasn't prescribed the best course of action. As stated, the tree will send out a large amount of reactional growth and in five years time the client will have a lot less light than they did before the work was carried out.
  17. Nice day.
  18. Can't be any worse than one I bought from a garden centre last week (didn't have time to get over to Barchams nursery). The roots were bound in a rock hard lump of old compost that i had to break apart to find what roots there were and then plant it bare-root style.
  19. Dad's 69 this year and still climbing!
  20. I'll work my way up: dodgy ankle from rugby days, degenerative athritic hip, excessive wind, dodgy neck (rugby again), excessive wind, detached retina - twice in the same eye, cateract surgery, colour blind, dyslexia, minor porn addiction.
  21. for bck garden work you really need a pedestrian stump grinder. My Husqy SG13A will cope with a 17 inch stump with relative ease. I've tackled stumps 2 to 3 ft across - it just takes longer. Any of the 13 HP machines should be fine.

    338xp

Here's some pictures, if anyone is interested. It's a 2008 model but has always gone out as a back-up saw as me and my other climber are both 200T users.

Correction, it's on it's second chain and I have a new one that will go with the saw. I'd be looking for £250 for it.
  24. Until recently, i had an 064 that was dated 2000 on the handle so the change is now narrowed down to 2001 or 2002. My rough guess would be 80% of climbers that would opt for the Stihl top-handle.

I have a littel used 338xpt that I may be willing to sell. I believe that it is still on it's first chain. See if I can post some pictures soon.
