  1. Just bought my sleeping bag for the occasion and I will probably be on my tod aswell. If you want to look out for me, I hope to arrive on a big yellow triumph motorcycle with a red Wolf-racing jacket. OR, if it is raining, like the 5day forecast suggests, I will be dry but looking a bit miserable after spending £70 on diesel for the trip.
  2. I will be going via Buckinghamshire at some point on the Friday but am hoping to go on bike if its fine weather. Will let you know if plans change and I take the truck.
  3. I've often wondered why your not a consultant. The amount you know about the subject we should be calling you Dr. Hamadryad. Saying that, after recently doing a few surveys myself, it is a much duller side of arboriculture. If it wasn't for my hip getting worse I would be more than happy swinging in the trees for a long time to come.
  4. How do you ariel rescue someone when they are skewered on fifty 6" spikes?
  5. with the H&S laws in Britain we could get into trouble for even looking at these pictures.
  6. Not really. I think i'm using 20mm.
  7. I've used polysteel for the last couple of years. It's good strong 3ply if you want to dismantle without the gagetry. drop it over a couple of strong high folks, wrap it round the trunk if you need extra friction and it will do the job.

    Fuel can

Last three combi-cans have been Oregon. They are nice and cheap but if you use the original spout, only half tighten it otherwise it pulls out of the thread and leaks.
  9. Welcome to the forum Rich. The MS260 is a superb saw for all day use. Light yet powerful enough for all small to medium trees. Now updated to MS261 - Can't vouch for the newer model, I hear it's a bit heavier but I'm sure it will still be a very good saw.
  10. Not sure where you are but get a quote for Stephen at BL Searle Ltd based in Gamlingay, Bedfordshire (tel - 01767 651117). Just bought my second body from him. A very good, competitive and professional company. DO NOT use a company in the west midlands that advertise cheap bodies on ebay. He's cond a lot of people (including me) using several different companies - i'll pm full details, if needed.
  11. I'm presuming that this would be at a weekend in which case i'm 95% certain I'll be there. I can raise this to 99% if you can garantee good biking weather.
  12. Hi Urubaen, don't want to worry you but in the HMRC's eyes if you've been working SOULY for one company for three years then they would probably class you as an employee rather than a contractor (IR45) but shhhhhhh...don't tell anyone.
  13. Hi Ben, I trim a couple of pleached lime hedges regularly. they are not hard to do especially if they have already been trained which I'm sure the college ones would have been. If you want me to talk you through it, let me know. Cheers, Ed.
  14. Lets not all start waving around the PC card. The first part of his statement is wrong, the second part is not so wrong. Now i'm friends with an ex-traveller who is a decent bloke and will do a fine job, but the vast majority of 'door knockers' will rip you off and leave your tree looking like crap. If they didn't then they wouldn;t have to knock on doors for their work!
  15. I'm a regular at the Capel Manor shows in April but been a bit disappointed with the last few years. Been thinking about trying out this one. Is camping open to everyone? Is there a charge for camping? Where can I get my Arbtalk t-shirt?

    Libya

Yes!....Yes!! We should stand up and throw off OUR dictaor - The EU!
  17. I'm planning to start the course this year at Tree life, but over at Barchams in Cambridgeshire.

    Lichens

Just ordered Lichens by William Purvis, but shigo's Modern Arboriculture and Matthech's updated VTA arrived the other day so it will have to join the queue.
  20. You could add parish councils to that list.
  21. I've run my TW chipper for 40+ hours on numerous occasions with no problems. However fit the bearings are having a laugh.
  22. The lichens on trees does interest me but currently I know very little (nothing) about the subject. One very basic question - does lichen actually harm the tree? When I see a tree covered in lichens, especially fruit trees, they always look to be in very poor health. In laymans terms please, how do they react with the tree? Many thanks, Ed.
  23. interesting... I guess the swear filters don't work for foreign languages.
  24. It's always nice to beat the french! I was worried when we started flapping in the second 20minutes but they controlled the game very well in the second half. I never think about grand slams until half way through the last match. Scotland have ruined our slams in the past and Irland are still a quality team. Come on England!
  25. Totally agree with Andy. I think you've done really well for yourself. This is what I mean about dyslexic people having extra motivation or other talents, just take a look at some of the names on this website! Famous People with the Gift of Dyslexia
