  1. Praying for dry weather next couple of weeks. 2 acres of trees to plant on flood plain land. My machine for towing my wheelchair is being put to its most extreme testing so far. I needed lots of help to get around today finishing the parkland guards! Water table about 1" below surface level
  2. I shot .303 as a 15 years old cadet at 200 and 300 yds
  3. I have a .22 and a .243 I only used 5 rounds last year for the 243. 3 to check my grouping and 2 for 2 red deer hinds so the cost was not an issue. The .22 rounds are pretty cheep
  4. I might be looking for a small hydrostatic tractor. I need a hydro as paralysed so manual changes difficult. Drove a Kubota STV 40 with hand controls and a hoist fitted to lift me into the seat from the wheelchair when working at hotel with 100 acres grounds. Now retired and have 4 acres which will partly be planted with trees
  5. Rule of thumb is don't cut more than a third of the grass height in one go. So the shorter you want it the more often you will need to cut. That's why golf greens that are cut down to 3 mm need to be cut every day or every other. Jo Bloggs seems to think that if you can't cut often better take as much off as possible where as in fact it would look better left longer and the grass will be more healthy. One of the biggest reasons for ending up with patchy grass with lots of moss is cutting too short! IMHO
  6. PM sent call me anyway I may be able to help out
  7. Will there be any firewood?
  8. Should be simple to make for a welder. Drill off centre a knurled round piece about the size of a watch face. Fasten to a plate with a bar welded on so there is no gap when at its closest. Sorry if my explanation not great.
  9. wonder if I can get a buy to let mortgage for that!
  10. I went on a 7 day cruise to the Norwegian fiords. The scenery was amazing
  11. When younger I did the Canadian Air Force fitness exercises. Only 11 minutes a day. Starts gently and builds up over time. Even when knackered after a day on the farm I could still face 11 minutes. Ended up pretty fit 5BX - How To Begin Take a look guys
  12. I have split oak for gate posts. Most will split fairly straight. Yes you could make some wooden wedges. Don't try to control the split too much just follow the grain
  13. Why not use a hammer and wedges to get it split to start
  14. What he said
  15. Cut mine 2 days before Christmas. It has grown a fair bit since. Its looking good!!
  16. I used to make great money looking after smallish lawns. I did a course at college that was for green keepers and had a background in farming and gardening so understood about weedkillers and fertilizing just needed to know how to apply it to grass. I could also mow in straight lines (its not as easy as son think) so once the grass was looking greener and the stripes in the grass were straight I had loads of people in the areas asking if I could do theirs too. Started small and within a year I was doing as much as I could whilst keeping a part time job going in the mornings. Most important is to be reliable!!!!!
  17. Present for myself!! Solid mountain bike tyres for the wheelchair, too many punctures after fencing the field where the hedge cutter had been. Got the approval for planting from the National Forest just yesterday so should be all go next month
  18. wait till you are old enough to see the grand kids too!
  19. Turkey and home grown home cured gammon
  20. if its a broad leaf tree its a hardwood
  21. Sympathise with you mate. I have held shotgun certificate for 40 years and FAC for 38. Did get a lot of grief from the firearms officer when I applied for FAC as I also have a record. Guess it was a bit easier back then. He made it very clear that any new run in with the law would mean me losing FAC. Kept nose clean since.
  22. Have you taken legal advice from one of the shooting organisation?
  23. I don't need eggs to answer unless he wishes but why can't you get a shotgun certificate?
  24. For personal protection? For game shooting and deer culling? Pest control? Targets? Please be more specific.
