  1. I did 5 hours hoeing in the garden I look after on Monday. Still more to do but at least I am getting the job done unlike the last guy. maybe tat is why I was recommended for the job!
  2. Hoe, Border fork, hands and knees. If he has spent that much on the plants he should spend a fair bit to look after them. Don't look to cut too many corners or you just might do yourself out of the job! I have worn hoes out completely over the years. You cannot beat a hoe on the right day in the right hands.
  3. You will be welcome to visit anytime. I am off to Barmouth for the weekend. Get in touch when you get home from Calvert Trust and let me know how you got on and maybe we can fix something up!
  4. need more info. Veg beds? Bedding plants? Herbaceous plants. what weeds? annuals? perennials? I think you get the idea
  5. Nice photos. Have fun at Calvert trust (if that is where you are going) I went about 12 months after my accident and I really enjoyed myself. Lets us know how you get on and I hope we will see some photos from there. I have been looking round my small woodland and wildflower meadow this week. I managed to dig out the ditches last week and now they are full to the top with water. I never take to camera and maybe I must get some more picture even if they are not up to your standard
  6. I think you should either believe it is a good thing to pull ragwort. Which I do. Or believe it is a waste of time. Which I don't. I know I prefer to see less and less on my land thank to see it spreading everywhere. I have given up trying to convert none believers and just get on with what I believe is right. Mud slinging and slagging people off just because their opinion is different to mine is something I don't do.
  7. good luck mate. I have been in surgery many times now. I trust the surgeons to do their job as I am sure you hope your clients trust you to do yours. The one bit of advice I will give is to have any physio offered and do any exercises suggested. Understand why the exercises are important and which you can do more often and which you should be cautious about doing to much! I find talking frankly to the phisio about my willingness to help myself as much as possible and my wish to get back to work asap really has helped.
  8. Try reversing a tractor towing two silage trailers behind each other!
  9. I may be interested but will depend on price and if I can get transport. Please pm
  10. Just a suggestion but two aluminium scaffold poles to attach to your wheelchair so you can be carried bit like a sedan chair when needed?
  11. Good luck I know how tricky it can be. I don't think people have made paths difficult for chair deliberately and your efforts just might make some of them easier. I was asked for some advice when a canal tow path was being opened nearby and on one steep bit I suggested a viewing area that was level so pushers and these able to push themselves had a good excuse for a rest. The volunteers started almost as soon as I had suggested it and 2 hours later there it was just needing a fence round it as a steep drop to the canal. I look forward to seeing and hearing about you efforts. Paul
  12. they usually state it should be your main business. i.e. the business that makes up the main part of your income. the rules are very strict
  13. I have looked at properties with agricultural clauses on. You would need to see exactly what the conditions are but usually your main occupation, or last occupation if retires should be in agriculture or forestry. Because I have had paid work for a charity since I stopped being the deer park manager I could now not live in a property with these conditions according to our council. It would also be more difficult to get planning permission to get the property extended.

    Turf

Bag of grass seed and a sprinkler, unless instant effect needed for christening or party etc.
  15. The main problem you may have is compaction because if this is the case over this area it will be hard to put right. If not then the other problem will be that there is little fertility. This can be sorted by regular feeding, little and often. I used to use half rate fertilizer followed a few weeks later by half rate lawn sand if the weather right. i.e rain a couple of days later and do this through out the spring and summer. Don't dismiss a ph test because if the ph is rather low then the fertilizer may not be taken up by the grass and a little lime may help and easy to apply. Raise the height of cut as far as allowed and if you can leave the cuttings down this will help a lot too. It is very rare that you will need to reseed or turf as the grass that is there is coping even if only just. Feeding and boosting this is usually the best way then weed killer once it is growing better!
  16. i did pretty well looking after lawns. I was good at lawn care as well as mowing in straight lines. Price per job not per hour, then work pretty quickly. If you can pick up a bit of tree work during the winter you could be ok. Most important is to be reliable and tidy.
  17. Its been just over 12 years now since I was discharged from Oswestry spinal injury centre. My roller coaster ride has had more ups than downs over those years although it took a few years before I would have said that. I hope in years to come you will be able to say the same! I went gliding yesterday with sportability (look them up if you don't already know about them). I am finding some of the more difficult transfers, like into and out of a glider, a bit tricky as I am getting a bit long in the tooth, but I am more willing to accept help these days too. Good luck mate!
  18. drinking the sap is the new in thing. You can ferment it as a beer or with an airlock as a wine. If you have made wine before I am sure you can just have a go and see how it turns out. I have made some in the past and it was good but left a dryish taste
  19. Its been a good day here too. Sorry no photos . Been gardening for a customer this morning and for myself this afternoon
  20. I am very independent and can get my wheelchair and the machine that tows me in the car no problems. If I shoot a deer on the farm in question the farmer can help remove the carcase with his tractor but I need help getting close enough to do the bleeding and the gralloch if the ground is wet. Help with the actual bleeding and gralloch would be great and I can help with any teaching needed. When pigeon shooting I have a wood I can go in alone but there are some places I can't get to and I don't have a dog so I lose a few birds. Someone who likes getting out and wanting to be involved that's all I need
