    Dying Alder

Bald, The ones at ours over the Balloch from you, are slow to come to leaf this year as you say was cold for a long period (down to -18 for around 6wks) and then cold winds. The young ones planted about 5-10 yrs ago are doing much better.
  3. Campbell plant hire would rent you a tracked forst chipper for a couple of days. Campbell Plant Hire – Plant Hire and Sales
  4. Hodge. Good to see you back around.
  5. Never got on with them personally, Ok for cutting in ditches etc. Flexible shaft may not like a blade. Prob need a bit more power.
  6. Sorry couldn't remember, looking good.
  7. What about the rabbit run in the back garden? IIRC
  8. Agree entirely with you up to 5" trunks blade OK after that easier with chainsaw. You can do larger with a clearing saw its just a faff, and you often have a holding peg in the middle.
  9. Husqvarna Scarlett blades are 8". Stihl may do up to 225mm.
  10. Stihl used to do an angle bend for the polesaws, you could try that, if they still do them. Never seen one mind.
  11. Personally, I would go with a clearing saw with decent blade (Such as scarlett blade) on it. If they are up to 6" then may have to go from both sides to get a clean cut. We managed to take stuff out around 10" but it can be hard work, only about 1% at this size. Need a decent clearing saw mind. I used a Stihl 450, we also had a 490 and Husky 455. If no clearing saw use a chainsaw and book an osteopath.
  12. Removing all Sitka, leaving all else downy birch larch and other planted trees. It was besides a wind farm and previous crop spruce were removed to reduce wind shear., but the site reseeded exceptionally well with spruce, hence why we were there.
  13. Did 40 Acres, with clearing saw removing Sitka regen. 4 operators for 5 days, good money, luckily did it before the snows came.
  14. If its a Subby climber, its the Subbies problem to pay the tax as they are self employed. Might be plus VAT mind.
  15. What area, density and as Steve says size matters.
  16. Can mill up to 28" whatever length, prob half dozen.

  21. Or use the correct "Green" olive to fit in a 22mm fitting to take a 3/4" pipe.
  22. Heard it again about an hour ago whilst out with the dogs, It was in the trees besides us, did not sound very healthy, probably bird flu.
