  1. Personally, I would go with a clearing saw with decent blade (Such as scarlett blade) on it. If they are up to 6" then may have to go from both sides to get a clean cut. We managed to take stuff out around 10" but it can be hard work, only about 1% at this size. Need a decent clearing saw mind. I used a Stihl 450, we also had a 490 and Husky 455. If no clearing saw use a chainsaw and book an osteopath.
  2. Removing all Sitka, leaving all else downy birch larch and other planted trees. It was besides a wind farm and previous crop spruce were removed to reduce wind shear., but the site reseeded exceptionally well with spruce, hence why we were there.
  3. Did 40 Acres, with clearing saw removing Sitka regen. 4 operators for 5 days, good money, luckily did it before the snows came.
  4. If its a Subby climber, its the Subbies problem to pay the tax as they are self employed. Might be plus VAT mind.
  5. What area, density and as Steve says size matters.
  6. Can mill up to 28" whatever length, prob half dozen.

  11. Or use the correct "Green" olive to fit in a 22mm fitting to take a 3/4" pipe.
  12. Heard it again about an hour ago whilst out with the dogs, It was in the trees besides us, did not sound very healthy, probably bird flu.
  13. Half way between cairnie and ruthven, we face the Binn and back to the Balloch.
  14. Were at Cairnie, no swallows yet but heard a cuckoo a week ago

  20. Thought it was for your boy Mick
  21. Officially yes, but in the real world......
  22. Should have said try normal drive sprocket see if it cures your problems.
  23. Oiler should cope Ok with the combination you are running. Maybe because you are running a larger sprocket it effectively is giving less oil per m of chain, prob OK if you are felling as saw not always flat out and gets a chance to cool down recover. But ringing up dry ash continuously may just be too much., combination of ash known to gum up chains, bio oil (less lubricity) and less oil supply and increased chain speed = more heat/ wear. But I may be wrong in my summation.
  24. Wrap a rag round before removing and work blind, without stabbing your hand.
