Bought a 460 in the springtime this year after looking at a few reviews on line and discussions on arbtalk. Again it was between the 441 and the 460. I guess as the 460 was a more tried and tested saw and appeared simpler with out the high tech electrics I went for the 460. Work with a guy who has the 441. Still glad I got the 460. Words like solid, reliable and powerful spring to mine. I,ve a 20" bar on it and it's fast and punchy and accelerates through timber:thumbup1:

Forestry Journal with Essential Arb always a good read. Then there is hort week which is starting to become a bit of a commercial grower mag and not so relevant now. The IOH mag which is a cure for insomnia. Just taken out a new subscription to a new one called Pro Landscaper launched at saltex last month. The Rhs Garden is alright for the pictures. We get the Forestry contracting association magazine which contains go sensible and useful info. There,s a few other trade type ones which are more advertising than useful content Some years I,ve got the Plantsman but it,s to in-depth and As I have have less time I can only do short and shallow:blushing:

Just checked our policies with Nfu and they are Commercial Vehicle policies for use the policy holder business and any person the policy holder hirers the vehicle out to (Oh and Social domestic and pleasure use - obviously they know their clients very well so if I take it down the chippy or to get a sunday paper I'm still covered) Just noticed it specifically mentions that they are (Not Agric Use) 3 machines for a total £425.57 not too bad

Sounds fair enough. After 22 years of building up my a business my brains is too corroded to even consider working out how to recover most of the companies information (if it wasn't for IT back-up )- I'd probably need a month or two in a padded room.

I hope you have a good remote back-up system for you iphone:scared1: One of our biggest problems would be losing all our info from the system so we back-up between two machines, remotely and onto external drives

We had the same engine put onto one of our old Howard Gems - brand new Kohler Magnum and it back fires everytime you drop the throttle back quickly. I wasn't that concerned, just need to go easy when we throttle off

As an employer, I'd have to be very very careful before deducting monies from a pay packet which is deemed in law to be protected earnings. Especially deducting a fee for training which as an employer I had potentially gained a commercial advantage from you having within that two year period and which may have been legally required for you to have had to work for me.

I think in normal practice it's almost always un-enforceable.

Definitely M Large for sales, support and parts. They are the main importer and disturbutor for the whole of the uk and Ireland and have been for the last 11 years. They,ll get you sorted quick smart:thumbup1:

What type of risk are you trying to cover. Is it 3rd party cover for use on the road or pl and el cover for site work. Or is it theft cover?

Just translated it into Simplified Chinese - there seems to be a word for everything except "Arbtalk" Oh and strangely "Bullman" doesn't translate either -I can see this is going to keep me amused for hours

Was down at Mount Stewart yesterday and this monsters been blown over. Nice bit of decay through the center and I see his partner about 20m to the right has the same Gano on it's main stem low down. Also noticed this nice big Eucalyptus with what looks like a main stem starting to snap under wind stress?

I,ve never been asked for proof of training or competence to hire out a mewp and we,ve had some big ones out in the past. PL insurance is at your risk as with most standard British hire association terms and conditions unless they offer additional insurance. Also a major thing to consider is hired in plant insurance - you need to have the machine insured against fire theft and damage.....and if you cause an accident with it and tip it into a building etc etc. Considering the cost of a 30m mewp at around £90k plus or a crane at say £250k it,s worth factoring in. Always read the small print on the hire docket incase it hits the fan!
