  1. I'd go first to the solicitors and formalise the legalities of the partnership. From there on it depends on how the business is going and where you want to take it. It's to grow the business big time, you,ll need to promote yourselves more than just word of mouth. Strong web preence works in our sector and area. I,m very nosey by nature so I observe my competitors. It,s all very well doing your own thing but in reality the most successful businesses aren,t necessary original but just do it better. There,s a few for starters:001_smile:
  2. Okay - you beat me to it this year. Last year we aced by doing our first install for a BBC christmas special that was filmed the first week of November. There's always one car in the way no matter when you go. Were you not tempted just to bump it out of the way - you know just a little lift and a push?
  3. Countrywide are bringing a chipper from Hartlepool to Belfast for me next week for 295 + vat. Probably be about the same for a small track machine
  4. I was working by myself at the time with the big chipper. Got it stopped up and had a very thoughtful silence. Radio 2. Have been doing a series at lunchtime - it would bring a tear to your eye.
  5. I,m sure I could re-arrange your signature quote to sum up this sort of behaviour - but the mod's would probably delete it.
  6. Hello and welcome. ..........honest info - you must have caught us on a good day:thumbup:
  7. After an amazing bright clear and sunny weekend for the MTV music awards here in Belfast:thumbup:, today it's back to really grey, drizzle and getting dark just after 3pm:thumbdown: Oh well at least Lady Gaga didn't get her paper dress wet on the Pink carpet - that's really all that matters.
  8. Oh yes - still a busy NPTC centre. I don't get involved with that side of the business though - its my other half Sarah that runs and manages The Construction and Landscape Training Company Ltd, Belfast, Northern Ireland The contracting side is my thing.
  9. An its the plated weight of the trailer not what is actually on it when you're stopped so a Van towing a normal 3.5t gross weight ifor williams is nicked everytime. I gather from talking with a disturbutor that you can get your trailer "down rated" the same as you can with a lorry. And it is a simple as applying to them and they give you a new shinny plate to rivet on with the new lower weight and they amend their records.
  10. So if I;m reading this correctly in the excemptions section No 22 "Dual Purpose Vehicle eg Land Rovers" are excempt.
  11. Just checking the financial requirements - quite a bit of money to be available. We'd need provision for about £20k. Bearing in mind some of my Transit aren't even worth £3-4k it seems a bit rich. DVA - Commercial Licensing - What Are The Financial Requirements?
  12. If you pump the clutch half a dozen times can you engage it then . worth trying before you dismantle everything. We've a transit that has a some leak in the clutch system and if it sits for any length of time you have to do this to engage any gear.
  13. Straight taking and unbias in their work. Been a member for about 3 years now. Great new website and magazine. Sensible, unbias information:thumbup:
  14. I take it you,ve never been thru one of our multi-agency check points yet. They can do everything in one visit, HMRC customs, doe vehicle enforcement and psni for anything else. You just get passed along from one to the next. Very entertaining and informative! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh
  15. I'd come across a new item, research it, demo it and purchase it if suitable with instruction given if necessary. The other option in this game is Trial - Error - Pain - Casualty.
  16. I've often thought about this and coming to the conclusion that it would be a good idea. I am looking at it like this - I,m already paying yearly to have the trailer maintained so I might as well get the "ticket" and also if it is enforced then all those scrap trailers running round the road towed by cowboys and double jobbers who pay no tax will be drawn into the net.
  17. That's the one:thumbup1:
  18. It should be part of everyones exit strategy!
  19. Never cut through one but I,d say with a big saw you,d have no problem doing it. I,ve been through quite a bit of hidden fencing wire and straining cables from stays before so a steel core flip line is safer than rope but not un-cuttable.
  20. Big congratulations to you all. A home birth, nice one - hope you kept your sawdust and woodchip out of the way.
  21. I,d buy a couple of either of you guys (jonsie or rover). Remember we,re coming into the planting season so I,d be looking them soon - so get the finger out or someone tell me where I can get them in the uk
  22. Very clever bit of kit. Might also work with small cell grown/root trainer grown broadleaf trees. Has anyone worked out yet if we can get one in the uk yet?
  23. Bought a 460 in the springtime this year after looking at a few reviews on line and discussions on arbtalk. Again it was between the 441 and the 460. I guess as the 460 was a more tried and tested saw and appeared simpler with out the high tech electrics I went for the 460. Work with a guy who has the 441. Still glad I got the 460. Words like solid, reliable and powerful spring to mine. I,ve a 20" bar on it and it's fast and punchy and accelerates through timber:thumbup1:
  24. Forestry Journal with Essential Arb always a good read. Then there is hort week which is starting to become a bit of a commercial grower mag and not so relevant now. The IOH mag which is a cure for insomnia. Just taken out a new subscription to a new one called Pro Landscaper launched at saltex last month. The Rhs Garden is alright for the pictures. We get the Forestry contracting association magazine which contains go sensible and useful info. There,s a few other trade type ones which are more advertising than useful content Some years I,ve got the Plantsman but it,s to in-depth and As I have have less time I can only do short and shallow:blushing:
  25. Just checked our policies with Nfu and they are Commercial Vehicle policies for use the policy holder business and any person the policy holder hirers the vehicle out to (Oh and Social domestic and pleasure use - obviously they know their clients very well so if I take it down the chippy or to get a sunday paper I'm still covered) Just noticed it specifically mentions that they are (Not Agric Use) 3 machines for a total £425.57 not too bad
