  1. Generally the seed is sterile. There could be a few hybrids with viable seed about but I,ve never come across one and we specialise in knotweed control
  2. I,d say if Mr H says there,s fungi still in the mulch I,d go with that. It also has a bit more info in the WRAP landscape mulch guide.
  3. If the chip is composted well and allowed to heat I,d always thought it would be fairly clear. certainly weed seed proteins are denatured in the heat
  4. Dream on Not sure that is corrrect - Defra -quote - It is not an offence to simply have it growing in your garden or on your land and there is no legal requirement to control it if it is (unless doing so forms part of a legally binding contract or agreement with another party). Japanese Knotweed - Northern Ireland Control Methods
  5. Looks like we're in for a battering - we're on top of a hill about 600ft high and rather exposed. I set up a weather station at the weekend with a wind gauge - looks like it's going to get a good work out. Thanks again Pecker woo - keep us informed with whatever you have:thumbup1:
  6. I know I shouldn't laugh but am I the only one who smiled just a little when I saw this. Glad it turned out alright for everyone:001_smile:
  7. Had about 1/2 inch around 7pm tonight. Now it's passed over and cleared. Air temperature reading -1.5C Thankful we had the mechanic up last week to top-up and check antifreeze on all the machines if it's going to be another cold winter. Don,t think we,re in for much more this week, just cold temperatures and wind chill.
  8. That looks more like a Paul Daniels magic trick than a means of controlling vermon:lol:
  9. We put trees up in hotels and if we fresh cut the stem and pop it into a self watering base the big trees (15ft) will take 5-10 litre a day no problem for the first couple of weeks and then it slows of. It defintely helps with needle retention as we've tried both with and without water bases. Just like a bunch of flowers?
  10. Do you have a link for that - we've just bought a new chipper and I actually dreamt that we'd been broken and they smashed down a 6"concrete block wall and extracted it through the rubble - cutting the alarm in the process and poisioning the dog. ONG my dreams are frightening!
  11. That will be us then. Just about to order a load of big trees to plant before christmas and a few thousand shrubs. As long as it doesn't freeze too hard - I prefer to planting with a spade than a kango.
  12. We're mostly just the assessment center, these guys all work for themselves independently and have their own training businesses, but when they assess they have to go through a center, which is often CL Training.
  13. If you go into the CL training website link and go into training - all the contact numbers are there. The Construction and Landscape Training Company Ltd, Belfast, Northern Ireland
  14. Apologies -had a line fault and didn't realise until late this afternoon - We had joiners in working in one of the training rooms at the weekend and they managed to trip the electric, set off the fire alarm, set off the burgular alarm and breach the phone line - good effort lads! I've just rung it from my office line to check and the answer phone is back on again - if you phone tomorrow and leave a message Sarah will get back to you.
  15. He's done some and we've used Total Tree Care and others. My wife runs our other company which is an independant NPTC assessment center - The Construction and Landscape Training Company Ltd, Belfast, Northern Ireland so I use who she tells me to use:blushing:
  16. Not my usual hunting ground, but I do have a party to go to up that way late December, might try and get a look then. Just have to convince my other half into one of my infamous detours.
  17. Must get that down loaded onto the lap top when I get back over to the house. My office PC has no sound card so I don't waste time watching rubbish when I should be working - obviously Arbtalk is essential business activity:lol: How far into the programme is it? I only saw the first bit last ngiht were the we girl was on the boat paddling up to the rope bridge
  18. There's a bit of googling and translating in this post for me Peckerwoo, but your imput is always much appreciated. I knew you'd be about if we just whistled loud enough. Thanks
  19. Grossing 3.5t on a standard trailer and with a third axle you legally have a reduced payload. Seems a bit strange that a trailer rated for 3.5t doesn't, have adequate rubber on it? I,ll take look and see what we have on ours.
  20. I,ll second that. might have to drop him a pm if he doesn't, appear soon.
  21. One half of the twins doing a bit of work from a non mobile work platform with the forwarder ready to transport back to the log stack.
  22. I have a good level of confidence in the gear I use. My main concern, as yours should be is what it is attached to namely the tree -that's not lolered and is far more variable and often has a safe working load of a fraction of what your gear has. Just a thought
  23. Always adds a bit of excitement to the day when you find something interesting. We found an unexploded ww2 bomb a couple of years ago. It was about 2ft long and 8inch diameter with Finns on the back - classic bomb shape which only became apparent after we,d been hammering at it with the kango for about 15minutes as it was in the way of a hole we were digging for a pergola post. One of the guys wanted to take it home as an ornament! Police came followed by the bomb squad. Very long lunch break that day:thumbup:
  24. We have a good success with our site. Not so much from the general work we do, but for the more specialist areas of operation like Training, knotweed and consultancy side. The problem with general searchs for tree surgeons or landscapers is there are so many of them coming up when you search its a bit of a lottery.
