  1. 200 miles away you say? - it looks pretty clean and original to me. Can't quite see if the shoot comes off, but I'm sure there will be a way
  2. Page 249 - even back in those days the bloody larch was giving gip!
  3. What - not picture? Get the camera out Good luck and "Health to Chip"
  4. Are you asking how important is a company pension because in a few months time you may be asking should I opt out as you will automatically be "in" if you don't. Employer and government payments to workplace pensions : Directgov - Pensions and retirement planning This will have an impact on any pay rises which are being considered this year I would imagine by employers. Clearly there is no money in the kitty and everyone will need provision in their old age and not everyone can buy an additional property so as a society we need to provide for everyone whether we want to or not. I just have a bit of an issue with the numerous final salary pension schemes floating about paid for by tax payers hard earned money. So in answer to your question "how important is a company pension?" if could be very important long term if you have no other investments or provision. And the fact that your employer is obliged to pay into it and there is personal tax relief on it, it's a win, win situation - consider it a stealth payrise or bonus.
  5. We had big problems with our pas lode nail gun before Christmas and left in in for a repair. Got a call the same afternoon to say Our gas was out of date. Apparently the new stuff has a much shorter shelf life so check the gas first. It was miss firing, not firing at all, then would fire 5-6 ok in a row and then stop again
  6. This is all good information except I,d firstly go for a stem injection the first year and a foliar the second year as the second year regrowth we often be thinner and may not be broad enough to inject. Also as mentioned Tordon 22 is not for aquatic or river side use primarily because it is harmful to aquatic life, fish and plant life. It also has no label or off-label exception for aquatic use so it is illegal to use in this situation. So stem injection with an approved glyphosate product all the way after you get someone with the pa6aw spraying ticket and have completed the correct environment agency paperwork. Job done:thumbup:
  7. Great pictures HuskyDavid. Great views to unwind to after finishing my VAT return. I'll leave you guys to it, that's me for the night.
  8. What about an adjustable wood drill bit. CK make them, you should be able to get various makes. They are about £20
  9. Take a look at the NPTC schedule for it. It may be similar and would give you an idea of their requirements. I assess woodchipper for the NPTC ticket, it goes into different types of cutting mechanism, correct operator position, usual pre-start checks, positioning and set-up etc.
  10. I,m guessing CS39 would be a relevant CoC to ask for as in a professional basis, as it's use of the saw in or on a tree which is where AFAG advise is the only place this type of saw should be used. Having said that, I,m not sure where the proof of competence is coming from, is it the dealer/manufacture trying to protect themselves and the people they sell them to or is it steered by the HSE?
  11. Hard to give an exact price without seeing the machine. You probably know there's a Very clean 2005 - 150 timberwolf in the classified for £6250 So I,m guessing a 2004 - 190 looking a bit rough (maybe not really been looked after?) wouldn't be worth more than £5k could even be down as low as £3500 if its a dog. Depending on your budget I'd have look at Mason's, they are the only dealer I have second hand experience of and couldn't fault them:thumbup1:
  12. But it's also 80% of your profit from 20% of your staff so you only need 2 guys - this is the problem with this theory - if you implement it in your business you won't have one which is why you need to use it with caution and awareness but not as a business model complete.
  13. This is an interesting theory and one often used in business development. It does have a self limiting ability and in a modern business with social responsiblity it is rather anti social and self defeating. It is worth bearing in mind, but don't go implementing it completely or your'll have no business in a few years time, no friends and be a social outcast. So in reality I,d sack 80% of my staff because they only make me 20% of my profit and like wise when Mrs Smith phones for a small tree job with a low margin I'd not return the call? A broad portfolio of business customer types builds for a better, more secure business and long term profit if its done correctly. As mentioned though it is always worth keeping this theory in the back of your mind just don't be sacking 8 out of every 10 of your staff today without careful thought -even though it may sound very appealing some days.
  14. Totally agree - I've often thought about this and a Vat registered company (like for like) should have lower costs as they can recover their imput VAt on their costs so if they are working for a Vat reg company they could be cheaper and make more profit than an non reg compay.
  15. Make sure as you progress, you realistically know what your running costs are. It can be very easy to be sweep along for the first few years and then realise in year 3 or 4 when you have to start replacing machines etc that this hasn't been factored into your costs. I see it happening all the time with businesses. They think they are making a fortune at first, then year 3 - crunch and realiality. Second point - remember if someone doesn,t want to pay you for something they can often avoid doing so. So don't let anyone get into you for more than you can afford to use.
  16. Sweet. Location, weather, machinery, woods and a good team - You are spot on - it doesn't get much better than that.
  17. This is the worst piece of business advice I've ever heard - if I can't have my toys whats the point in the stress:001_tt2:. (You are of course right )
  18. I guess the biggest concern is that it is a open forum and it is available to search engines world wide -so you really need to consider what you say - its not the "mods" that are my concern just everyone else (is this verging on paranoia?). Probably wasn't clever using my real name as my arbtalk name, but when I signed up I hadn't really got a clue how a forum worked - can they be changed and that way search engines can't find any of my ill informed and technically inacurate posts:blushing:
  19. Spot on:thumbup1:. Price each job in your terms, at your rates and sleep easy each night. You have a customer with repeat potential now and a great advert that will spread the word.
  20. We,ve a few Kubota,s. The one that does the most in this line is a L3300 (35hp) which tows a 4t trailer, has a power loader, is 4wheel drive, runs our schliesing 200zx chipper (about 5 1/2" capacity) and has loads of rear spool valves for assessories including a log splitter. Jobs a good one:thumbup1:
  21. Same here on the hills behind Belfast. The weather gauge in the garden last night it peaked at 98.9mph! Good effort:biggrin:
  22. That's got to be a runner. If you can drop the sides or modify them so they can
  23. PA6D - apparatus requiring minimal calibration. I think technically this is the 'bolt on' to a PA6A that you require. Although I doubt anyone would pick up on this as the PA6a covers most of this and you don,t normally do a PA6D without first doing a PA6a first. It's similar to the PA6aw that you,d do as a bolt on for the watery bits.
