  1. Couldn't agree more. The ones we have most problems with are on the pole saws chain oil tanks. It takes the slightest bit of dirt/wood chip to make it impossible to close. Absolute pain. These lids are not progress or better when the don't work
  2. "the assessment centre actually gets a cut" I can assure you the centre has to put in a lot of work too, and only puts on a modest margin, private centers are businesses too remember and have overheads to cover. "Pushin paperwork" rather under values the role of a professional assessment centre.
  3. Many thanks to RM Print and Design - our business cards raffle prize arrived today. The image below doesn't do them justice. Good colour, crisp and on nice almost waxy card. Thanks Again Dalzell business card v3.pdf
  4. Was looking at your website - the tree lifter, is that an engine hoist with wheels and towbar - excellent and very handy looking- What girth of rootballed tree would it lift?

  5. I would agree we would go as low as 60p m2 on 1000m2 plus provided its just seeding not shifting debris off-site (stones etc) 100m2 rate around 1.20 to 1.50 m2. Hand work sites - pedrestrian rotavators etc It needs to be machine sized sites, light rotavate, multirake going like the hammers and minimal hand raking to finish. I reckon you're spot on still - the rates unfortunately hasn't changed much in 10 years - only the machines get faster!
  6. Excellent pictures -they'd be worth printing out/laminating and keeping to hand when doing idents on site. Keep the shots coming to build up the reference
  7. Great crisp logo and name - but I think there's a company that makes artificial grass that puts product into the uk with the same name or something very similar. It might not be a problem unless you intend to trade as a limited company or they decide to be awkward.
  8. Website design is freely available to all, you can do it for £10 or £1000- what gets your website found is "search engine optimisation"? Basically you need to get it picked up within the top 10 say search results everytime. That's where you need to spend your money. In Northern Ireland we pay a company called "4NI"to do this for us. They get our different websites top 10 everytime.
  9. For a lot of people it's a "life style" career - whatever that means. It's addictive and few other careers support such a diverse range of plonkers.
  10. We bought the extension sides from the dealer, clad them with light aluminum checker plate. The tail door we take off and use as a flap across the top at the head board end when chipping and the put it back on as a tail door when transporting between sites and yard. Works perfectly
  11. Just had a look on ebay at the GZD - at £4k that would be a good machine especially as it's the high tip version. Check deck blade spindle bearings, pto connections from the engine to the deck and hydraulic drive (the main wheel drive/power - try the drive paddles forward and back - no strange noises or straining sounds -it's very very expensive to repair. This little machine is great fun to drive. Ours was the first in the country and we had loads of other contractors up for a go - its scampers like a cockroach when you're getting used to it.
  12. That was the zero turn ride-on we had a few years ago. Excellent grass collector. Two counter rotating blades firing the grass thru the back axle. Probably the best wet collector kubota made, just wasn't wide enough for us. Very fast forward speed. We traded it in for a G21 bigger, wider but not as good a collector three blade machine. Our G23 has just come back from its first 50hr servicing - a mighty mid sized ride-on for around £9k brand new - again twin counter rotating blades.
  13. Just checked out the Hort Week What kit site for info on the profihopper - £22k new!
  14. We've had zero turn machines - including pedrestrian format and 40" ride-on . They are amazing in confined areas, with practice good in larger areas. Need to watch out for the sharp turns especially on moss covers lawns as they tend to rip a bit. I agree, out front decks are excellent for longer grass as there no flattening of the sward. Not familiar with the the profihopper brand of machine - just make sure there's a good dealer behind it.
  15. Dave The Kubotas we have are good but not perfect. We have demo'd Iseki, Etesias and John Deere. The Iseki is probably as good although our dealer may not be. My mate bought the equivalent Iseki the same time we bought our Kubota G23 - we both demo'd the same machines he went Iseki we went Kubota. Sharp blades, high rev's and very clean grass box mesh (pressure wash the grass box mesh weekly if it cloggs up to allow the air to flow through - essential). They are strong though and shaft driven deck - not belt on the deck on the new ones. Most of our sites are cut every 2/3 weeks so never that long - however it does rain a lot in our little country!
  16. Excellent format and concise - I'll be personalising and adopting these ones:biggrin:
  17. We run Kutotas which aren't perfect but seem to perform most of the time. Our latest one we got a couple of months ago is the G23 Diesel with a 48" deck. Most of these type of mowers seem to be about 10ft long. Etesia Hydro's we've had and moved away from. Great collectors in the wet, although there are others just as good now. Too many electrical and niggly faults. A caravan park we did work for had theirs go on fire with the above fault. I was assessing a guy earlier today who was running one of the big Etesias and his heart is broke with it - and he's an owner driver. Buyer beware and make sure you have a good dealer to whip if faults do develop!
  18. Our Hand crafted oak chopping board arrived today. Excellent crafted piece of work and a fine bit of oak. Many thanks to Tommer9 for donating it. Our second prize of the 500 business cards is underway - excellent. Two prizes in our first raffle entry, sorry guys - must be the luck of the Irish!
  19. Excellent work Steve - A bit of fun with a good cause at the end of it. Thanks
  20. Cousin Jack - there may be a problem with your link to the thor website - our internet security protection is saying it has a "Trojan-downloader JS Agent.ewh" ? virus attached to this site/link and has blocked it.
  21. Well sign written vehicles have got us loads of business over the years. Gave up on those coloured pages 6 years ago - wasting too much time running around giving estimates along with every other contractor in the book. Our website has generated a steady supply of work and is also a good reference point to refer new clients back to when they see it on the vans. We find commercial clients catch the website - we have it "pitched" for us by our regional search engine and it works everytime. We have three websites running, one for the landscape contracting company, one for a specialist part of the contracting company and the third one for the training company
  22. Jut checked in to and out of the chat room - it's kind off weird in there - will try tomorrow at 9pm
  23. Anti-slip solutions we have used include the resin bound grit stone finishes for example the Ronacrete products. There are a few about. They straight forward enough to use - a little messy and set very quickly in warm conditions
  24. PA1 and PA6A and there is also PA6D 'bolt on' (applicators with minimal calibration) and then there is PA6AW 'bolt on' for use on or near water. It's on the NPTC website. We do quite a bit of knotweed control with stem injection guns and our sister company is an NPTC assessment centre
  25. We use MMC Pro - odd looking blue liquid product approved for all surfaces including artificial grass. If it has a heavy growth of moss over on it power brush it off first then apply the MMC. It has a residual action as well - up to 6 months No smell, doesn't transfer on shoes into vehicles or property and is easy to calibrate and dilute.
