  1. We had some winds here a few months ago and part of an old oak that stands alongside a public right of way/bridle path fell on to the right of way. It has been chopped into chunks and longish branches has just been thrown onto the grassy/weed filled side of the path. The branches look very dry and easily snap showing dry wood. Just wondering..... 1. is it ok to pick the discarded wood up and bring home as its on the side of a right of way 2. how long would we need to leave it before burning, it already looks very dry Laraine
  2. a few more photos, branches, leaves, bark and the inner wood
  3. The original planter was 3 owners ago, I have some photos somewhere of the trees when they were all around 3ft high......many many moons ago (well 22 years at least) When the trees were topped, they took around 6 to 8 foot off them. Laraine
  4. The aroma is definitely not lemony in the slightest, (I intensely dislike citronella), when we split a section that had been cut, the wood split easily, not fibrous and was almost a creamy white, and so smooth you could swear somebody had spent hours moulding the wood into a gentle curve. No sticky resin either, and it had only been cut a few days. Laraine
  5. Thank you for such a quick response. The smell, is quite heady and amazing, it reminds me of an aromatherapy oil, it is very very pleasant. I will try and get home early enough tomorrow to take a close up picture of the branches and bark. Laraine
  6. last year my neighbour took the top off a couple of conifer/fir trees in his garden, can anyone ID from the picture please? the branches are soft with tiny cones and the most amazing smell from the wood. He has offered the rest of the tree for us to cut down and burn in the woodburner. I know it wont be any good to burn till next year, hopefully though it will be suitable. Laraine
