  1. is it third party insurance you need to cover the vehicle while it's on the road or theft/fire/accident damage type insurance?
  2. I think it maybe even more expensive. I,m not sure that price includes the battery:scared1:
  3. After you've whacked it all down to ground level, I'd be gathering up all the debris and trash before I cultivate the soil. The amount of cultivation may well depend on the final use of the ground. If its just a bit of basic lawn then a rotavate, grade and rake over should be fine. If they are planning shrub borders and planting etc depending on the ground it may need a bit more effort with the cultivation.
  4. Just had a look on their website site - they only seem to have "Traditional logs" for sale now - I wonder was this old stock in the multiple. Winter Fuels - Fuel Express
  5. Excellent vibe going on here. Two of them almost have a Gorrillza type look. Great detail and talent:thumbup:
  6. As WeeDee has said there are a few doing the range of City and Guilds Land based services (NPTC) CS and machine units including all the Chainsaw Tickets, Chipper, mewp and stump grinder. PM me if you want a list of providers.
  7. I was wondering if one of those 500kg all terrain pallet fork things in the Northern Tool catalogue and three long ramps would work?
  8. Out of interest ELG I,d heard in the states you could get super strength round up? PS had a look at the easy lift system at Saltex excellent bit of kit. I could be tempted on may next equipment buying round.
  9. I think the point to remember here is that while the primary ingredient glyphosate is considered safe, there may be human toxity issues with some of the additives put in along with it to increase it's action. So don,t get complacent when using the various formulations and versions on the Market and be careful.
  10. It,s kind of hard to make diagnosis without pictures or samples, but I gather the rhs are suggesting much of the brown conifer damage around the country is weather related
  11. Looks good Just typed in my postcode to see what the delivery charge would be .......and you don,t deliver to my area. what about Fed Ex:lol:
  12. Depends on your location. On our Coastal and high ground sites these two varieties came through the winter fine. In the centre of Belfast and inland low level sites got wiped. It seems to have been a combination of not just the cold but more importantly the continued damp freezing conditions that killed them as it was colder at our yard which is 650ft above sea level than it was where the Gris. And the Escallonia were killed. Just for the record our cordyline and phorniums survived also.
  13. I think your research so far is spot on. I guess the worry we would have about buying in the £5k bracket is that the machine is going have done a fair bit of work so replacement parts and bearings - cost and availibility is going to be a consideration.
  14. What we could do with is a sort of commission for forests, that could gather up thousands of acres of ground and then plant them with trees which could be continually harvested in the future. Mind they'd need to be careful that having gained all this land they didn't end up being run into the ground, turned into townie amenties and mountain bike tracks and lose sight of their amazing potential goal. Ah maybe I,m talking rubbish and we should stick with nuclear and windfarms - they're much more effective and take up less space.
  15. Just got back home - 5am start this morning to get the plane over and back in the same day. Good show this year, all the big machinery names were there - think some do it every other year now. As Rob says plenty to drool over. Had a good look and a demo of the quad chip -quite impressed. AES rough cut ride-on; the best of the rough cut mowers. There was a german guy selling manual pot and big tree lifters behind the Avant loader stand - very clever and simple bits of kit and adaptable. Also on on the Avant loaders they now have a 4x4 wheel drive mewp. No more trashing sites with track machines and much quicker. About 2.1t weight and 40ft plus high with good outreach Lots of salt spreaders - funny how this year everyone seems to be pushing spreaders and snow blades. Oh and some dodgey guy on the FR Jones stand sold me some sporty Stihl torches for my twin boys. Good to meet you again Justin:biggrin:
  16. we've planted quite a few nice Prunus lusitanica (Portaguese Laurel)hedges I know it's a laurel but it's tight and a nice dark green hedge. Alos Griselinia littoralis makes an excellent light green evergreen hedge - I've one outside the office here which is constantly fresh looking - however it depends on your location as in some areas they got wiped by the cold this year. Elaeagnus ebbingei - again I've got this in my garden and its going great. Most of these are available from Johnsons of Whixley. Escallonia as someone else mentioned is go but again suspectable to the cold depending on your location. You could get a good beech or hornbeam hedge at 5ft - can't remember if you said it had to be evergreen though.
  17. Excellent machinery. Although it kind of makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end - frightening rotating blades at close quarters:ohmy:
  18. Must get a look in. It must be 15 years plus since I was last there. Used to be a real mix of old barns and sheds and machinery everywhere. I bought a Husqy 66 there - my one and only ever Husqy.
  19. BBC News - Tyrone estate manager killed in tree-felling accident
  20. That follows - Worrying - I'd heard there was a transmission/clutch problem with the model I have, giving bother if they had to pull heavy loads regularily.
  21. I,m curious/panic as to what has gone wrong with your one. I bought a new 110 county station wagon 6 weeks ago to replace our last one which was a 2004 TD5. Must admit not a big landrover fan but it did come into its own last winter and it did hold it second hand value when it came to trading in. Was there anything major - so far the only thing thats happened to ours was the back passenger quarter light window dropped down into the door and had to be jammed into position until the dealer got the right bit to sort it. Having said that I think there is only about 1500 miles on it so far.
  22. Hi Iain, is the that a Galmor? single row planter? We nearly bought a new one a couple of years ago and then our whip planting dried up. Still might be interested is one came up second hand. Are they any good? Thanks Gareth
  23. I'd say you'd be lucky if you see any browning of leaves for at least a 7-10 days - often its more like a fortnight to three weeks before its totally brown - although you can cultivate after a few days as it's locked into the plant by then Its a slow tranlocated herbicide so it takes a while to track down into the plant. You can get the Round-up labels on the net as a download
  24. This is normal practice and very worrying. You can top up the insurance by adding in this items as accessories - more premium of course. If it was a new machine you could get "Gap" insurance to make up the difference between current and replacement value.
  25. I've flights booked for Wednesday at the moment, but what normally happens is nearer the time "the .... hits the fan" and my plans get scuppered. I want to check out some salt spreading equipment, a rough cut ride on mower and I'm also keen to see this Greenmech quad chipper in action.
