  2. :001_smile:found at base of mature Oak Tree just up the road today
  3. Its not easy to do keep pipes in place, tec reels best example I remember are in the extensions to ponsse harvesters , pipes together held in a loop as in the video suffer from torture as in pics below, kesla now have a system of pipes in an enclosed metal case with the pipes held in place with pulleys but even with this they can jump and stretch, pipes enclosed in a form of plastic interlocking tracking look good and tidy but ? how safe in forest environment . I notice botex now have 2 pipes either side of crane and Steve? your last toy has saggy pipes? on the extention, good luck in sorting it out
  4. the avenue is not as such a mature line of trees more of a semi mature tree lined road, good in the autumn sun though,
  5. Savernake Forest to the south east of Marlborough owned by the Earl of Cardigan and leased to the Forestry Commission in 1939 on a 999 year lease contains the longest avenue of trees in Britain at 4 miles ( very potholed road! Care needed esp. when looking at trees ), influenced by Capability Brown in the 1790’s with additions of drives, avenues and extensive planting programme. Jane Seymour was born and raised in the forest. Approx 7 square miles now and is AONB and SSSI. It is evident that a lot of work has been done in the recent past to i.d. trees and manage their surroundings, I read that the FC has surveyed more than 7000 veteran trees with gps and tagging here? But have no official confirmation of this, David I felt that there could be more intervention with the surrounding environment and also to the trees themselves i.e. the 1st pic posted here the unbalanced nature of the tree could be helped to be more stable and therefore have a prolonged life by ‘consider minimal remedial work necessary to eliminate unacceptable risk’ not my words but if you follow the flow chart you end up there or ‘manage using tree surgery’ something of which I agree with, I realise there is argument both for and against intervention but I felt whilst wandering around this incredible forest that I wished I had both the funding and time to be able to negotiate with others a long term plan of management and the best be able to action some of the works ( dream on a ? ) I felt privileged just to be able to wander around in the woods, I will return! The tree I referred to is called King of Limbs.
