  1. Strongbow for me please:thumbup:. Cool and refreshing a bit like some of the statements on here. Only a few mind you:lol:
  2. Don't forget that hiring means that you can claim the complete amount back against tax in the same year whereas if you buy you can only claim half back in the first year. Might be worth doing some number crunching! And then once you have claimed back for your chipper that is it where if you're still hiring it i you can still claim. Are you getting decent rates as you're doing long term hire?
  3. When i say big saw i'd say 660 and above as it's anything you woudn't use every day. As someone has already said 361, 260 etc all everyday saws so bigger than 460 for me.
  4. Don't know much but believe that sepervirens is ever green! Semper - always Virens - green
  5. I get lots of repeat work on hedges but i always leave it that they should contact me when they want their hedges trimming to save any confusion. Not what you want to hear really i suppose but think you'll have to bite the bullet on this one and just learn from it.
  6. Whenever i get a guy in on bigger jobs i expect to pay between £100 and £120 a day with ropes, saws (020, 260 and 361) and harness. As has been said rigging is more and he also has bigger saws which i think he charges at £20 a day. He's a great climber so if jobs are priced properly it's easy money for me as i don't have to work so hard!!!. He used to provide a van and a chipper if needed also at extra cost but has knocked that on the head now.
  7. Have managed to sell five loads already:thumbup:. It'll start soon i can feel it in the air:dancing:
  8. Taking the top out of a hedge i would climb but i must say that for regular jobs i do year after year i invested in a set of henchman:thumbup1:. They are great as rather than standing on a step you have a platform to work from:thumbup:. Can only be beaten by a mewp but if access is an issue i'd use the henchman:thumbup:!!
  9. Wouldn't seem like it ha ha ha. He's not posted back as he's still tinkering with it:lol:. Either that or he doesn't fancy your £300 fee!!
  10. We have a crew cab transit tipper and with a few tools and a driver it usually comes in at 2750 unloaded so 9 times out of 10 we're overweight................van's quite heavy too:lol:
  11. As everyone else says really. These people are only human and as was said already they don't want you to fail. guy i worked with failed by choosing to use cotton lined gloves!! Only one i know of. He even managed to pass pa2 after putting 10x too much chemical in and telling the assessor the error!! All i would say is read the label and make sure that you use the right amount of chemical. All the spraying questions are on the label so all you need to remember us the H and S side of things. Best of luck:thumbup:.
  12. Yeah come on what did it weigh in at? It's like an episode of Eastenders now:lol:. What a cliff hanger......And i'll go for 3.7 tonnes:thumbup:
  13. It could be Inonotus hispidus on the ash. Not brilliant if there's people about under it. (If that's what it is!!)
  14. I wouldn't recommend upping the dose i would change product! What is the aim of what you are to do? If it is to kill off everything i would have honestly sprayed the whole lot off with Timbrel and then given a blast of Roundup afterwards. If it is just to kill off broadleaf and leave grass Timbrel is just the job. There may well be something that would kill the whole lot. I would phone your local chemical suppliers as they will probably be able to help. I use Amenity Land Services. ALS give them a call they are usually really helpfull.
  15. We have had the same problem with weeds this year. The problem is with Glyphosate is that it is only a systemic herbicide. This will only kill, in laymans terms, what it touches and will not stop seed germination. For that you need a residual herbicide which you can probably use on gravel but not usually on hard standings such as paths or concrete. We use a product called Pistol but you will probably find that it is more expensive than Glyphosate but it should work for up to six months:thumbup:.
  16. Like the chocolate for those jobs when you just run out of energy right at the end!!
  17. Can't see why ther is no argument against trees. Surely a structure whether man made or natural is a structure and your right to light is just that. As i said before if you had light coming into your house for 25 years and then someone planted a 'wall' of conifers surely you would have the argument over a right to light. Does it actually say in the act it only covers structures?
  18. You would have uninterrupted light if there was no tree there and then someone planted one after say 25 years!! That then would be uninterrupted light for 20 years would it not?
  19. Have just cleared a garden myself and i used roundup. It is only effective on the green and once it has come into contact with the soil it will not affect any replanting. The best chemical i've seen used is Timbrel. It kills all weeds and brambles and only leaves the grass but it is expensive at about £50 a litre.
  20. Am glad you posted that. I also learnt that in the RFS Cert a few years ago. From memory i think it was the prescription act 1832 which i believe states something along the lines of ' you have a right to light if you have had unintterupted light for 20 years'.
  21. Presume that the lack of work is due to the school holidays and the funds being spent on the kids also last week in July and the first week in August is traditionally the 'factory fortnight' so presume more people are away and if not perhaps don't want some big hairy guy climbing around in their trees!! Hope things pick up for you guys that are struggling for work.
  22. I had a K reg Isuzu 4x4. It was great. A bit slow as it was non turbo but once i got her wound up we could touch just over 90 (with a large amount of vibration!!). I had her for about three years and when i sold her she'd done 180,000 and only got rid as i wanted a newer ute! The one i had was the same as the Vauxhall Brava. Both are Isuzu pick ups. Engines are Isuzus thing so a few miles mean nothing.
  23. You forgot to add and get ready to run like the wind ha ha ha:lol:
  24. Same as. When i done mine they were dead keen on the on site risk assessments and all the health and safety info that you have in the hand book. Good luck if i can do it anyone can:lol:
