  1. Sadly i can offer no better advice than anyone else:thumbdown:. You'll have to grin and bear the cost of the repair. On the upside it could have been a whole lot worse and it was only a cheap repair when all is said and done. You'll have to invest in a Honda or something of that ilk. They are expensive but it is normally a long time between repairs. Good luck with the business:thumbup1:
  2. I recently sold my 260 (on ebay and got charged a fortune for the pleasure!!) and was looking to replace it with the 261 when it's released but have been using my 390 for everything and i love the old girl. Bit heavier than the 260 but don't know why i didn't use it more before!! Great review by the way.
  3. Go renewable John:thumbup:. I contacted the environment agency about these things and a few other bits as well. They were really helpfull and sent me links to all the things that could affect me. I was pleasantly surprised to speak to someone that knew what they were doing. Just give them a call and they will explain all the exemptions you need (which are normally free anyway) and you will be sorted.
  4. I use a 30 ton petrol splitter. It can be used horizontal or vertical. It is a fantastic bit of kit. Mine will split wood at least a couple of feet long with ease. When it comes to knots it will do them too but you will probably find that it doesn't look pretty where the knot is.
  5. Sorry to hear your bad news:thumbdown:. It boils down to a lack of respect. When i was a kid if i got into any sort of trouble firstly the people that had seen you would give you a telling off and then when i got home my old man would kick my a**e around the house. Even if it wasn't me sometimes i'd still feel the wrath of my old man. Nobody is held to account for what they have done are they. If they are caught they should pay for the resprays and for the court costs and anything associated with the crime.
  6. Does the digger count as a one man hole borer?
  7. I'll be agreeing with everyone else:dito: Keep digging or even better get some other guy to do it. I've used hole borers on more than one occassion and unless it is nice soil you're better off digging, but then if it's nice soil you're better of digging and keeping the extra cash to congratulate yourself on a job well done:beer:
  8. Have removed about a dozen of them this year. Hard winter for them. Have had a few which have sprouted from the base and are still going strong now i've removed the main trunk. That one will grow again:thumbup:
  9. Servicing isn't a problem, mine rattles and squeaks a bit!! Best vehicle i've ever owned mind you. Would like another one with just a few less squeaks now. I just like the idea of going out in the morning and it starting first turn of the key. Every morning as well. Who says you can't beat the Land Rover:lol:. Come on guys where is the 'Jap fan cub'?
  10. Agree with Benstihl. I done mine about cs38 about five years ago and that was exactly what we were told although that was only what we were told to do for the assessment. Whatever we do afterwards is up to us. Although we were allowed to use it for attachment for a secondary as long as we had the main line on the centre d. (Well said Steve). We had to have secondarys on the front for advancing but could use them on the side for work positioning.
  11. I much prefer it in the autumn/winter. I find it's pretty easy to earn what i need come the summer due to the light nights and the ability to work as long as i need to whereas in the winter it is harder to come by so as the wood is ready to go i just load it up and off i go. Keeps the money rolling in on those cold dark nights.
  12. I have to replace the fog light every year for the MOT. Just a standard part of the MOT for me now!! The original one got full of mud and rust so replaced with a cheap little one that hangs below. By the end of the year it's full of mud and literally hangs, by the wires, below!! Anyway i'll have mine for the rest of my life if i keep it until i've done 260,000. Do they feel kind of worn out at that sort of mileage?
  13. Mine isn't quite as nice as that:lol:
  14. My Hilux is also 11 years old. Touch wood never let me down. Biggest expense i've had was four new tyres but that is just erratic driving:lol:. I've had it for seven years now but would like to move on to a newer vehicle. Is a toss up between another Hilux or a Land Rover but think i'll go Jap again then. Head has got to rule heart:thumbup:
  15. Have a 390 which has an orange handle!! You know one of the rubbish ones . I much prefer using it over the 260 for virtually everything!! I say big up for the orange handles:001_tt2:
  16. Yeah i know what you're saying but i don't do a great deal of mileage each year and my brother has a box full of spanners!! A very big box at that hahaha. You think sticking with the Jap machines is the best idea then?
  17. Don't think i'd be able to function if i had a spliff nowadays!! Kids would competely trash the place. Perhaps i should get the kids on it!! (Only joking they prefer cheap vodka!)
  18. I just use regular builders bags. Second hand so recycling as well!! Have been told even if you stacked them in you'd get nowhere near a cubic meter but if you throw them in anyhow there's probably even less than you have worked out. Seems a bit of a con really but it's hard work cutting and splitting unless you have a posh machine, and then i season them in a barn which has to be paid for so money has to be made somewhere doesn't it!! Still if you load them right up the customers eyes normally light up as 'it's a good bag full'!
  19. How much do you get billed for a conversion like that? Have an older Hilux myself and was considering having it done myself but think i'll wait until i can afford the Land Rover!!
  20. Will do. The guy only had a small outfit and has gone into chainsaw carving now. Used to do a bit weekends with him and that's it really! Sold his SG13 cheap as well but he'd already promised that to someone else.
  21. Am not going to make my millions selling wood but the thing is for me that i have got a steady income over the winter so perhaps i should just stick to what i was charging. Problem is that people keep banding phrases round like 'no point being a busy fool' but then on the other hand i have people at home that need feeding!! And i make money i suppose so think i've decided already. Thanks
  22. Amazing pictures. Bet it was great just gently watching the world go by rather than being part of the rat race. Would love to do it myself. Lucky you!!
  23. Think the lux works out at 1.25 cube but i say get whatever you can. When i first started doing it i was selling a transit tipper load for £85. I'd probably want double that now!! Does anyone do bargains for repeat customers. I was supplying a pub last year and they had a ton bag a week. He wants to strike a deal this year. Have told him the wood is going to be £45 a bag this year but will keep his at £40. Thoughts please.....
  24. :thumbup:Fantastic link
  25. Got myself a 98 Wolf 150 for £1500. Paint job and new bearings and bob's your fathers brother. If it's only for the weekends i'm sure you'll find a cheap chipper. Must be a few knocking about. Just look for a tree surgeon that looks about cream crackered and about to retire from the trade(probably about 45 yrs old hahaha) and you might get a deal as did i!
