  1. nice website
  2. we sold some log sheds to two garden centres near us. both told us the same. they make 200% profit on what they sell !!!!!! we're defo in the wrong game
  3. and the moral of the story is....................... stockpile your logs, don't sell em of cheap coz old Ted ( i hate old Ted ) is selling them for a fiver a dumpy bag. they can only get better over time, and more valuable
  4. Three working Cockers here. The old dogs called Oscar Two bitches are sisters, Honey and Coco All work well Can't keep them out of any vehicle
  5. stihl's here. we found the husky ones too flimsy, forever replacing the spouts
  6. depends on the circumstances. as mike says, as little as keeps you happy my lads understand that they get paid depending on the job, their role, how hard they work, if i had a good nights sleep etc. one of my lads (been with me 2 years) has just been promoted. he's out in a van with another lad this week, to see how he copes on his own. if its succesful, he'll get a good pay rise and the change'll be permanent, if not, it won't. as employees, we all think we're underpaid, under valued as employers, we all think we pay our staff too much, and they don't work as hard as us !!!!!!!
  7. when we had our new stove installed i asked a sweep out of the paper to come and give both ours a good go. his price over the phone, job unseen', was £115 for the first chimney and another £50 for the second. Oh, and he was booked up for the next three weeks so couldn't come till then !!!!!!! I'm defo in the wrong trade... No suprise when i did em myself....again....
  8. saw thisone on another post an it killed me 'triple nipple tree services' ffs
  9. first job when i left school (back in the 80's) was on a govt. training scheme. one year later i left being able to lay hedges and fell most trees with only an axe and billhook. 15 years later after various jobs from sweeping sh*t to managing 40 odd lads, i took a job clearing railway vegetation. subbed to most of the larger co.s then saw the cash leaving the sector and moving to the powerlines. At 40 i didn't fancy digging away all week so set up on my own. started with a 110 landy, 12' trailer, one 341, and a ryobi hedge cutter. now upto 3 vans, 4x4, tractor, trailers galore, tracked jensen, more stihl stuff than your average dealer, oh, and believe it or not, but the long reach ryobi's still going strong.
  10.:lol: HILARIOUS spat my coffee all over the keyboard. if i ever start another co. i'm pinching the name Mick.
  11. we're taking a 5' dia Ash out next week. Been asked to make a double seat out of it this is my only other attempt at chair making
  12. split it as soon as possible. Euch can be nearly impossible to split as it gets dryer !!!
  13. we looked into selling ours. can't remember the name of the company who rang us. they were offering £8 per ton, BUT. the chip had to have NO green in it, must be stored under cover, and you needed a teleporter to load the size of trailer they were bringing. to us it wasn't worth looking into.
  14. once had one on the floor in one of the old chicken sheds. went to stamp on it and i swear, it growled at me !!!!!!!!! cue me backpeddeling rapildy
  15. lets hope they've altered the brake handle !!!!!!
  16. Weirach hw100 in .22
  17. depends where you're planning to work. if you're into forestry, most of the above'll find there way into your kit. if you're thinking of going domestic, forget the saws to start with and buy yourself a good set of hedge cutters. i made more money hedge cutting when i first started always buy new saws if you can, second hand ones are second hand for a reason, they're either old and knackered, knocked off, or unwanted coz its crap. Jonsie on here is about the cheapest you'll find
  18. yeah i know Andrew, he tok me for my medium fell. I'll give him a try. Thanks
  19. we were contacted by ebay last week with regards to a Hakki processor we were bidding on, again in Scotland. I'd emailed the seller to enquire if i could come and look, also if he had loading facilities. He offered it to me for £2400 delivered. We'd had the same scam tried on us when we were looking for another tipper also off ebay, no end of vans, all delivered, all must be paid for up front via bank transfer......... I DON'T THINK SO
  20. booked up till mid june. getting crazier, had one customer offer to pay extra if we could fit her in sooner !!!!!!!
  21. hi all, anyone know where theres a cs30/31 course. notts, s.yorks, w.lincs areas thanks
  22. had a throwline nicked about a month ago. left it up an ivy covered scots pine, about the worst climb i've had recently. it wasn't the fact that some scroat had nicked the line. it was more the fact that i had ANOTHER horrendous climb !!!!!!!! by the time i'd got high enough to get out of the spikes and off my strop, i'd have throttled the little so and so. my mood wasn't helped by my two groundies chatting to each other (just loud enough for me to hear) about how, at 44, maybe it was time for me to hang the ropes up. when the lead groundie happened to mention that he could probably get up said tree in, oohhh, maybe 10 mins max, a sacking was on the cards.. time to take three deep breaths and take a minute to have a good look over the rooftops and calm down. got my revenge by dropping the pine in huge lumps
  23. we only take deposits if we have any outlay on the job in question materials for landscaping jobs, hire of equipment etc. other than that, we put our payment terms on the bottom of the quote ( immediate payment rquired) and when the customer rings up to give the go ahead with the job, i try to slip a reminder in. we always ring on the night before we go to a job, and if the client says they'll be out, or at work or whatever, i'll ask them if i can nip round later in the evening to pick the cheque up.
  24. dont think i'd be able to hold my temper when i confronted him...... then it'd be me faceing the 5 'O'
