  1. i've never carved yet, but do a mean swedish candle i'm in, time permitting
  2. ey up shep, just waiting for you to get bored with your alaskan, then i can "borrow" it off you
  3. nice carvings buddy, i especially like the hare. thanks for the advice, i'll have a go this weekend and put the pics up. should give everyone a laugh, but hey ho, we've all got to start somewhere. thanks again, dave
  4. love the mushroom. we've got some 4' dia h/chestnut, i might have a go at one. never carved before, so it might be a case of 'bigger is easier'
  5. looking to get started in carving, just a few quick questions what basic tools do i need, obviously saws but what else also i've got a few smaller saws, stihl 017's, macullochs etc, what bar n chain do i need, and wheres the best place to get them. bigger saws arn't a problem thanks, dave
  6. WOW !!!!! do you sell these? can you put a pic up of the tools you'd need, i'd love to have a go
  7. good old trust 04' crew cab, last year £315, this year £505 53' reg crew cab, no no claims £595 that'll do
  8. we used to sell plenty of these on fleabay till the carrier went pop. supplied flatpacked, 20 screws and it was up. toooooooo busy atm to look for another carrier, tried the usual suspects but all are around the £40/£50 pound mark which kills the price.
  9. we charge our gardeners out @ £15 per hr. the amount of comments we get about "i wish i was on £15 an hour" is unreal until you explain to them the situation with holiday pay, sick pay, travel time, fuel, insurance......the list goes on. i usually stop when their eyes glaze over.....
  10. nope, sorry, its the old LDV
  11. HANG ON !!!!! I'm sure i recognise one of MY transits
  12. we've also had no joy mark. one of the lads who works for me has a traders policy £1200 a year and he can have as many vehicles on it as he wants trouble is his is only 3rd party apparently there are fully comp ones out there might be the route to go never mind the banks slowing the economy down, the bloody insurance co's are doing a good enough job the sooner the fair trade commision look into them the better
  13. just tried the compare site. 53 reg crewcab tranny, additional vehicle, so no no claims 44 y/old clean license, no claims £1094 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. still waiting to start ours buddy. too busy atm
  15. we'll stick at £75-00 per cube h/wood and £60-00 soft. we currently have customers upto 40 miles way from us who prefer our logs to cheaper, local suppliers. about 40% of new customers are now from word of mouth. i think with the ammount of new stoves being fitted, and the power co's buying up woodland left right and center, woodfuel prices can only go one way. just for a laugh i offered one of our local '£30 a bag' people a free load of rings the other day. Euch is such a joy to split when its been ringed up for a year
  16. does anyone know if its the same James Murdoch who was a manager at HW Martins for a couple of years.
  17. Did a fair sized house last week. Dust masks are essential. spades are good, we have the Wolf Garten range of tools and have 4 or 5 dutch hoe's mainly for this type of work. a mewp is worth the money if access is possible. most clients only call us in when the ivy's into the roof warn the client that it may pull the odd tile out start at the top, and try to get it rolling into a ball, when it gets heavy enough it pulls itself off in big old lumps. oh, and as said above, check, check, and check again for cables
  18. hi all, we've been asked by our local parish council to design a memorial garden for them. no problems there. unfortunately for us, it has to be an all singing / dancing design, 3D images etc. any firms out there who do it. tanks, dave
  19. my lads are just coming round to that idea Nick. Two of em have asked if they can come in on saturday to process logs. Can't bring myself to do actual work on a sunday though, ( i don't class quoting, collecting, servicing, office crap as "proper" work )
  20. so, we need to drag em in off the street, or out of the yard, into the house before "defending" ourselves....... Can't wait
  21. gutted for you mate. we're just north of Newark so if i hear of owt for sale i'll let you know
  22. messed up on a decking quote the week before last. it meant i worked for three days for about £40....... suck it in. do the job at the quoted price. think of the good recomendations you'll get off it....lol
  23. two teams on our job today, we were the first on site, and by the time the other team arrived me and the other climber were up the conny's. i'd finished the first lot, got out, took harness off, fancied a drink so went to the front of the house where the second teams van was. only to find both front windows open, keys in the ignition, the two back doors (its a crewcab with the back racked out) wide open with all saws, climbing kits, hedge cutters etc on display to the world. to say i went off on one was an understatement.....
  24. very nice mate. i need to get an alaskan asap
