  4. yes mate, bought it in jan. needs a front tyre but other than that she's fully legal the trailer is the back half of a 2000 transit tipper that one of the boy racers in the village wrote off.

  7. we've got one we made ourselves. if its a regular tree customer, or mate, they can have it for nowt. other than that its £40-00 per day, £60-00 for the weekend, or £150-00 for a week. strictly on the understanding that if it breaks while they've got it, they pay for the repair oh, and it goes full, so it better come back full.

  10. tuesday. removing some fallen willow from the river Trent. also some leaners, and a couple on the footpath that were dangerous. first outing for our tractor. performed brilliantly. pulling 40' 24" dia willow out with ease, so easily that we decided to fell the worst of the leaners into the river then pull em out.

  16. Hi all, After a winter and spring of 7 day weeks, our yard is overflowing with cord. Mainly Birch, some Oak, H/ Chestnut, Ash, Etc. NO softwood (seperate pile) Ranging from 8" dia up to 30" . At a guess we've got about 80/100 ton. Also got about 70 cube ringed up in crates, again mainly Birch, Oak. Just need splitting. Any offers
  17. whats wrong with sending the lad to knock on the clients door. "'Scuse me but my boss says i have to ask if the kettles broke ???" works ace in school break time when my 11 year old gives them the puppy dog eyes
  18. brill !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19.
  20. i like the sound of making the power unit out of a mower engine. we've got half a dozen honda ones here. the hardest thing i'd forsee is making the blade holder / chain adjuster
  21. i'd have said around 1.5 as well, dependant on species. we sell in crates of just over a meter cube, and one of those weighs between 600 and 750 per crate, again dependant on the species.
  22. IMO its not the ACTUAL value for money the customer is getting its the PERSEEVED (excuse the spelling) value that dictates price. A client wouldn't think it was good value to pay £300 (say) for two men to spend a day cutting their hedges, but might think it excellent value for two men to spend half a day felling the big tree in the garden for the same £300. Same costs to us. I'm afraid its a sad fact of life that Old Tom dosen't have our overheads and you'll never beat him on price. Don't even try Two days conny bashing for £400.....If i was skint i'd do it.. but i'm not As forhaving a minimum day rate....I'm with Steve on this. We've just had two days where all i've earnt is the lads wages, doing work for a contracts manager who in the past has speeded our payments up, and done loads more favours for us. Got a job last week from a sheltered housing Co. because earlier on in the year we'd done some hedge removal work for an old dear (lovely tea and bickies ALL morning) and i'd knocked £50 off the bill. I'd thought it'd take us while about 2 ish, we were done for 12 and i felt guilty charging her the full quoted price Turns out her daughter runs around a dozen care homes so it was £50 well spent. Karma i think its called
  23. no pockets for me. sick of the wife playing hell with me when a pile of sawdust falls out all over the bedroom floor. currently got 2 pairs of hiflex and one pair of husky type c's at the menders. every pair of stihls i've ever owned has let go in the zip area within months of having them. also i seem to wear out the front of my left thigh fairly quickly. ?????????
