  1. I have about 8 pop butts to choose from. Most just over 22" wide as they wont fit through my wood miser. Must be 6-8ft long. Very few knots and straight most must be just above the root and taper out to 30" in some cases.
  2. I think the 2.0 litre diesel bmw engine is made in south wales but that engine is a sore point at the moment.
  3. Its rare to hear of piston or crank problems these days. Your more likely to kill an engine from ignoring a rising temp gauge or running low on oil. At 250k things like water pump and timing chains start to fail but not on merc in particular they have a good reputation and probably one of the best out there.
  4. A good point that never occured to me engine may also be glazed and coked up. Although I think high hours should be easy to spot from the rattles and condition of the kit. I have yet to confirm what these vans will tow. There is 6 tonne iveco on arb trader and that is listed as towing 2.2 tonnes. I dont really need large van with heavy payload but like the idea of twin wheel and towing 3500kg. twin wheel swb low roof 900kg payload would be fine 30 mpg would be good 20mpg forget it.
  5. I can see the need for timber products and boards. I was thinking kindling and logs would be my need.
  6. Hi Rob I will give it some thought the one on ebay he thinks he has sold it for £8000 inc vat if it falls through he will let me know. I probably only need something rough and ready unless I am going to do proper milling.
  7. Its a 2005 yr lt15 I think. Rare to find one this size with electric up down. Looking for £3500 . Has four bed sections and about 20 blades. I run it on a 60kva but I am sure a 20 kva would cope.
  8. That sounds like a good metre but I just need 2 readings Piss wet ready to go
  9. They do say your first loss is your best loss. When you start winging it somethings just get worse. Did you not have AA cover.
  10. Good find I have been looking for months on ebay cant even find completed listings. I thought 12k was too much for a new one. I was offered an old lucas mill with small blade for less than 2k should have bought it . I dont need a big blade only need to knock the wood down to 3x2 and dont need it to be accurate. Thanks for posting it up
  11. I am looking to buy. I would like to sell or swap my 3 phase woodmizer for a lucas mill but happy to just buy outright with no px. I think this would suit our kindling use better.
  12. Buy an old incinerator and cut a door in the end. Anything you make needs to be 6mm steel or more otherwise it will just buckle with the heat.
  13. Knowing my luck ea bundle would have weighed 305kg
  14. Still looking good always have 750kg on more if going big servicing. Been looking at these 58 IVECO TWIN REAR WHEEL PTO COMPRESSOR GENERATOR SERVICE FITTERS GROUNDWORK VAN | eBay Could even take my expresso machine
  15. I tried a vw but found everything in the wrong place. I put it down to me being 6ft 3 the vw bodies I think are more rust resistant but they seem to have a few problems with gearboxs according to my brother he has had 3 on his 57 plate.
  16. I wonder whether the cost of timber is making them cut more from a log or possibly not turning when milling so you end up cutting quickly but badly if that makes sense.
  17. Seems strange since our vito had the most incredible brakes and cornering stability/ traction control and top speed of 125 mph. If anyone goes for a merc vito with second row of seats try to get the travel liner rather than the duo liner ours was incredibly noisey for an extra £150 when purchased new you can have a complete lining kit and insulation.
  18. I went to see a few large companies a few years ago and at the end of the day they found the most effective way was east europeans and no gadgets just a frame to hold the bags open and stuff them in by hand.
  19. I dont think thats right. You can get an idea from your tax disc lgv = commercial. Any panel van unless made as a people carrier will be 50mph. Car derived vans same as car.
  20. We had the reflective stuff and when we came to sell the van at 3 years old had to respray it the stuff just does not come off.
  21. I thought unless you have a grandad licence it was 750kg gross for the trailer keeping everyting under 3500kg. or do you mean you dont need a tacho.
  22. I think we have a hamlet made by arda in dorset or devon I think. Good stove that will take a 10" log. Better than our hunter and uses alot less wood.
  23. Could be simple things like non genuine air filter or running slightly rich. Choke not fully off. poor spark plug even top quality fully synthetic eng oil may be worth a try. Changing blades more often is worth while if it saves you £15 a day on fuel.
  24. My heart tells me its going to be the best most reliable vehicle for the job. My head tells me 5k for a 1984 vehicle is alot of money. Could be heavy on fuel and slow
  25. Ours was a 115 good fun to drive but difficult to get more than 30mpg. The more power you have the more you use unless you are very self disiplined ( not me ) 250 bhp disco now 21 mpg gets the work done though.
