  1. I saw a swb low roof twin wheeled iveco. Down rated from 5 tonne to 3500kg but still able to tow big chunks. Was tempted but just went for a disco 4 commercial in the end.
  2. Cordwood is the same value as gold ingots just in wood form. Its a method of payment you cant actually make money out of.
  3. Most of these power phrases are normally back up with little or no action from the people that spout them. I like the phrase empty vessels make the most noise.
  4. Talking of four letter words, swords, points and aggression reminds me I have a service visit in Croydon next week.
  5. I like the old traditional English terminology. The stuff that irritates me is the new American crap. Issues we dont have sometimes we have problems. Game of two halves Float it at the next meeting Level playing fields init for sure and calling a group of women " guys " although if they have adams apples you can sometimes see why
  6. I tend to use any clean unused oil about the place to lubricate the cutting knifes on our kindlett if you know anyone local. Wood processors with chain bars eat the stuff and may not be as fussy as a nice chain saw. Any type of oil should be easy to give away as recycling companies get paid good money for it to go to power stations
  7. True I see more tight fisted war baby types with their people carriers sniffing about
  8. I tend to run a 3500kg 16ft flat bed and a 10ft 3500kg tipper trailer. The tippers great but I find the c of G to high for carrying vehicles and steep to drive on and its heavy when empty considering the size.
  9. They can be attracted to the sweet smell of alcohol on your breath. Get skin so soft that does not need to be washed off. Find someone like predator and sit near them all night.
  10. I can hear the bearings on my greenmech. How noisey should they be or any noise is time for a change.
  11. I need a driver and hiab to lift 2 tonnes of new generator up onto a bank and boon out about 20ft. There is room for a 7 tonne lorry 10 tonne at a push. Could get a jcb 535 tele in if someone knows of one with driver.
  12. They have a little 4 cyl sprinter engine and are really poor for towing. I think the old round cab model was smaller with less power but was more capable. I cant see the u900 as its replacement. if you want to tow more than 3 tonnes go for a u1600 upwards. If you want a proper work beast I think u1700 upwards also comes with 10 stud axles.
  13. There are a few bargains on ebay but on the whole. The stuff is broken, knackered, nicked, does not excist or if new can be purchased cheaper on Amazon where the seller bought it yesterday. Out of the last 10 items I bought off ebay there was a problem with 8 of them.
  14. I seen one for sale now just got to save another 30k and I am there.
  15. Yes I measured my time now I dont do logs I think if you were doing logs even as part of your living you would have to have it organised so you work in a large barn or poly tunnel. Even a 9m x9m poly tunnel will only set u back 5k but not working for 2 months will cost alot more than that. Dont over think it dont under think it.
  16. But look at it another way lock facing out left it open to drilling or picking so its more secure this way. Maybe a bit too secure
  17. I did speak to a family run business in Eastleigh who shapen blades They dropped into see me cant remember if they did them in house or sent them away. They seemed honest and genuine. Will see if I wrote their name down but think I found them easily on line.
  18. Sad to hear you are suspending something you enjoy. We were faced with the same problem 2 years ago. I dont regret packing it in one bit. I can get my wood fix elsewhere. Our gross margin was heading towards 30% and thats before we had accounted for our hourly labour rate. Machines and cord are now too expensive and the public are shopping around to save the last pound especially if they can talk to you on the phone. If they have to go on line or change a direct debit they dont bother. Sometimes you have to make some tough decisions to survive. Good luck with the rest of your business and I hope you can get your wood fix elsewhere.
  19. I drive a Landrover D4 van so recovery essential with the AA made them promise years ago to recover the van and 3500kg trailer even in southern ireland. It would not surprise me if that has been written out in the small print since.
  20. What sort of firewood have you supplied for the last 9 years. Did you do the project before 2005 or during your firewood stint. Is your market being restricted now by legislation.
  21. I had a new jd 160hp on hire for 2 days. Towing 16 tonnes for about 75 miles. ticking over all day loading trailer with crane. used 74 litres of fuel. Which I thought was a bargain.
  22. I see them and sussed them straight away. Its only £3 more for the real deal get your hand in your pocket. If you get any tighter you will all be log customers
  23. I see those when they came out about 10 years ago. I dont think I have ever seen a used one for sale. They look a good machine are they as reliable and easy to repair as a jcb. On paper you would not buy anything else tows 20 tonnes and can do 40k when solo. Could also use it to flail our hedges.
  24. I have just finished trimming my black thorn, hawthorn hedge so dont need gloves now but am going to buy some on your rec ready for next year. I spent an hour scraping a scalpal over my forearm you know that tick tick sound you know its in there but cant get it out. Turns out it was at 90 deg and 10mm long ouch.
