  1. Buy any decent Toyota and you wont look back. But if you like taking things to bits and love Landrovers and know them inside out stick with them at least the parts are cheap.
  2. There really is no comparison. The landcruiser transmission are a lot heavier duty than the LR. Defenders are a bit like triggers broom at 200,000 miles. The Toyota stuff if looked after in this country is easily capable of 500,000. The toyota stuff is by no means perfect and parts are expensive also do some research just in case you find it does 10 mpg as that could be a real pain in the uk.
  3. Probably the best truck you will ever buy. Even if it was knackered would still run rings round a new defener. With auto box should do 20 mpg. May be touch more with manual box.
  4. £1.80 + vat collected will get some prices for haulage when generator work eases off.
  5. I had a new d22 and was bored with the Bridgestones it came with when they wore out. I fitted bfg ats and it ruined the handling and the drive of the vehicle. They were too heavy for the vehicle especially as its unsprung weight. I would be comparing tyre weights to see if the general At or similar is near the weight of a Bridgestone.
  6. Job seeker allowance but I am told disability is better because you have not got to bother your ass out of bed.
  7. The way I looked at is same amount of work and material. The customers should take more responsability for drying the wood. If I put the money in an isa or bank acct the most I would earn is 3% so give that as a discount. Keep the wood in the yard it will be worth at least 15% more next year when seasoned.
  8. Yes I would have another pentagon commercial dealer were fab. Engine pulled like a train brakes were incredible. I would avoid white ones until they galvanised the bodies about 58 plate. If you must go back on years the metallic ones dont seem to rust as much. Mine used to cruise through germany at 100 mph + I think the body rusted partly because the tyre chains used to come off when at the top of Norway. Problems to look for we had with ours in 200k over 5 years. Propshaft fell off. gearbox selector cables. new Gearbox they have a problem when pulling away they jump out of 1st gear and it wont go back with out declutching , set of headlights filled with snow. 3 exhaust clamps at front, several sets of rear shocks ( very small ) indicator stalks,
  9. If there was a piece of Oak and a piece of Poplar I would put the pop in the wood burner.
  10. you can have two machines new treat them the same one will do 200k no problems the other will fail after a few months you only need one badly made part to put a box down early. I used to but a new transit every 3 years then I got one so bad I would not take a chance on another ford ever again. Toyota make a good product but even they can have their moments and the parts are expensive.
  11. We could do a tonne an hour if I could earn £25 an hour I would still be doing it. Processing firewood in the uk is more like £10 an hour.
  12. 265 70 16 should be a cheap size and plenty available. If you go mud pattern its another 3 mpg down as well. Better on ats.
  13. Fantastic red skys at dusk you can see the rain and hail falling miles away very dramatic. Cold weather now could catch people out with their log piles and kindling stocks.
  14. Hail snow and dropping temperatures the weather always seems to be 3 months behind. Thinking of booking summer hols in October.
  15. Within the last 10 years. I think a 14 year old truck with lpg would be a pain. As Chris said get a multipoint system. We had a 5 tonne lpg forklift put me off for life and used to have to deal with lpg generators. They either would not start as something had seized ( no lubricity in gas ) or they would freeze up in cold weather before the coolant powered heater got going.
  16. Yes so buy the time you add £15 a tonne haulage and vat thats best part of £100 about what they want to pay for it round here when its logged and fully seasoned delivered and stacked.
  17. If you start going up in size there are less tread patterns available the price goes up and the life goes down. My 2357016 bfG AT used to do + 50k miles towing. Now on 255 55 19 they cost 180 ea and do 12-20,000 miles.
  18. The reason I ask is lots of you great people collect kindling from us We have up to now not offered a pallet service. But I have spoken to Pallet ways and we may offer it on a dedicated load. Ie 18 pallets on rigid or 26 ish pallets on arctic. The prices look good depending on location. I am normally out playing with generators but can get the odd day off to load a whole lorry. I cant get the day off to load a couple of pallets though. If this could be of interest we can make about an extra 5000 bags through the summer let me know and I can work out a price. We are not the cheapest around but the kindling is top knotch and we have plenty of material waiting to go in the kindlet. All kindling is kiln dried and below 15% moisture. 90 % is made from new pine joinery waste. Neatly filled monofilament bags. Photos in our gallery if you click on my screen name or link at the bottom. If anyone wants to collect a few hundred we currently have plenty of stock. Thanks for reading
  19. Unless you get a later system they can be unreliable. Ball ache finding places to fill if your out of your area. Short range unless you have a huge tank. I have a friend who runs 3 4x4 and swears by it and would not have anything else.
  20. Ask the firewood boys what they dred the most. Seem to remember Elm was hard work
  21. I think you win more work by displaying a positive attitude on site. For larger contracts, tidy work wear and clean vehicles and lack of texting. When discussing work with customer dont sound desperate and dont say you are flooded otherwise they think you are over stretched. Things that put doubt in your mind will do the same to your customer. Its good to get a few new customers familarity breeds contempt.
  22. Unlikely as Kevin says if they dont need the work they wont under cut to get it. More likely the streams of fully qualified inexperienced youngsters leaving the colleges still living with mum and dad.
  23. We had a new shape 04 plate never seen so much rust on a 5 year old van. 150 hp was a nippy but had to get the miles on to beat the rust. 200k in 5 years. Fell to bits at 100k rebuilt under warranty then did another 100k no probs.
  24. Are they low geared on the motorway. Any more grief with the disco and will be looking round for one with a tacho in. Thanks for Carls no the other day he should be with us on site Tuesday with his Mog and crane.
