  1. Most pick ups unless common rail will do 20-25 to the gallon. Common rail electronic engines may do 30 mpg but will probably require a set of injectors at 130k for 1000's of pounds so the fuel savings go out the window. I buy a truck and drive around gently for a week checking the fuel consumption still in love with the new toy. Give it a few weeks and a bit of work stress the foot is down a bit harder and the fuel consumption goes out the window.
  2. We did have a hard frost a week or so ago and it stayed most of the day. From memory take the pipes off unbolt from block dont loose the shims under the pump they set the injection timeing. Might be worth talking to woodleigh power in Fareham see if they can test the pump and injectors. Once the pump is out there should just be four roller cams that work off the camshaft ie nothing to fall in. If there is no lift pump it has to be getting the fuel from the injectors.
  3. for most tippers you can halve that and that would be a good day. They are heavy on the way home as well. We had a non turbo defender tipper that did 16 mpg. I only average 40 mpg out of our bmw diesel car
  4. It could be an injector take them out and pop test them. I have replaced loads of those pumps on generators. The main reason is a small amount of water in the fuel then hangs around the pump first frost expands and splits the pump have a look for the hairline crack.
  5. I have an old eco combi just for use in my garden. I use the shredder as much as the chipper we have lots of prickly native bushes. The shredder pulls stuff in that would otherwise not go through the chipper. Well made reliable bit of kit.
  6. If anyone else gets them selves in this position and gets lots of people chasing you may not have time to ring everyone back. But it takes two minutes to put up a post saying all now sold.
  7. I would check the rakers are at the right height. I have same saw but have 325 bar semi chisel and some dead standing oak hard as nails cuts like butter even with carlton chain. I find a new chain cuts better than one that is nearly worn out aswell.
  8. As timber cutter says Birch good firewood but dont keep it. Beech ok but be careful if left outside. Oak last for years and takes longer than that to season. Most of those buildings were made from oak. Softwood gate lasts 15-20 years and oak gate 40-60 years.
  9. I have had several accountants over the years. Two of them originally worked for the the inland revenue unfortunately they forgot they left . I had to explain to both they were working for me now. Its not about tax avoidance its about getting one thats bright enough and has some balls to find enough legitimate business expences.
  10. I went in to Toyota and drove a new hilux double cab in October. Thought yeah nice have one of those if its less than 20k . Then found out its 26k and does not include a towbar or cap on the back or VAT. I looked on line and you can get a basic 2.5 litre for about 16k plus vat. Looked today that seems to have shot up to 18k aswell. yet to actually see a basic one
  11. Landrovers dont come with difflocks unless fitted after market. If you get two wheels diagonal of the deck they will just spin the wheels unless it has traction control. Alot of the jap stuff like the amazon is packed with all sorts of difflocks. What makes the Landrovers good off road is the suspension travel they can drop a wheel down 300mm and find grip.
  12. That is a good way of putting it. Also forests tend to grow straight with fewer branches and therefore less knots. They tend to be sought after timber like Beech and ash. Rather than arb waste which is often Willow more willow and some syc.
  13. After the last couple of weeks anything not made in Europe would be top of my list. Hilux is very good but if its the D4D engine before 2008 make sure its had the injector washers changed and oil pickup checked on recall. I think they made a revised injector but they are £700 ea
  14. A little bit more space for private messages. Although saying that I get them emailed then archive from there perhaps I am just being lazy or is there an easier way to store them on Arbtalk.
  15. Perhaps rather than focus on whats needed, we should mention what we like. I like: the lack of swearing The fact there are other old farts on here as well The fact that the younger members are also mature The Sugari girl but we dont need to go any further plenty of other sites for that. The ejector seat steve has fitted recently for the trolls and idiots. As has been said I would like to see some stickies for the regular questions like how many logs in a bag and is hornbeam any good. I would like to see more posts from the gals not in a pervy sort of way but they have a different view point and do make up half the population. Apart from that I think its great I have been hanging around for 5 years and still never cut a tree down
  16. I have seen this a few times on hear. Wood given to the public cheap or free. But that member of the public is unlikely to deliver you a cheap loan or sell your house for you free or offer the service they provide in their work. Some of the worst wood fairies I have met live in big houses with two nice cars in the drive. The public get cheap or free wood kills the business of the local log man who buys his cord in at £70 a tonne. If you are a tree surgeon offer it in the firewood forum to members for a small fee. That way its efficiently and safely removed you have not got to cart all of it home and you have a few quid. I have done this with a few members on hear and it seemed to work very well. Perhaps we need to state a fair price per tonne for arb waste so one side is not too greedy and the other to tight.
  17. I had a small one but went to Argos and they do a really good samsung monitor for about £125.00 23 inch. Means you dont have to pan from left to right. I think the thread was about someone with a big ego.
  18. Thats not strictly true I gave my kids £6 in 2ps at southsea amusments a few weeks ago and they come out with absolutely nothing apart from a big smile.
  19. I was only joking looks fine on my 24in screen might be a squeeze on a 15" though.
  20. I thought what he was saying was over 5 years he has picked everyones brains for free without contributing much. Now cant be bothered to pass on the info to the younger guys. After 5 years of employment on arb talk one person has not paid ( thats life it happens ) and by the way sounds like we are all sad. How much is a bulk bag of logs worth
  21. I can nearly see all that picture If I run up and down the room
  22. Agree with above, start with cleaning and checking the obvious look at the expensive things last. I would think about teeing a simple gauge into the fuel line after the fuel pump and watching the fuel pressure as you drive you may suddenly find the pressure drop off. Make sure you dont have a tank breather pipe trapped crushed or blocked.
  23. Have they got knobs A forum is partly successful due to its members and how its run I see it has 17000 members now and that does not include the lurkers in the back ground. Subjects on here will be influenced by what 17000 people are interested in and reply to. I am not leaving you got to throw me out. I still dont know how many logs in a cubic meter
