    I think the weather is mild I have burnt 75% less oil than last year and probably half the logs. With so many people doing logs there is plenty of choice and the public want cheap. Until the cheap runs out its hard for you. I feel sorry for all you log guys its hard work and tight on margin at the best of times. Look positive and hang on in there we could still get some very cold weather. Summer seems to be june - October

    Just been out to generator in town centre sorted now off to bed. Still no power here.

    Thick rubber sheet is a good idea. If you fit isolation mounts it can be a bit of an experiment too soft and they can make things worse.

    Tried toughing out before starting the generator we lasted 25 minutes. I feel for people tonight especially with young children or the old and vulnerable. at least with power on you can drown out the wind noise. Never seen it so rough as this.

    Thanks Jon:thumbup1: We are currently just managing to fill orders. We are kiln drying to 14% moisture to keep the quality. If anyone wants large quantities made through the summer let me know. We can only store about 2000 bags in the dry but turn out 20,000 bags a year so need to keep them moving.

    I doubt the fuel level is relevant but I know if the fuel level gets very low on our disco 4 it goes onto reduced performance. Could it be there is a faulty low fuel level sensor in the fuel tank.

    I use hotmax at home. verdo and hotmax both within a couple of miles of my home. The verdos I found twice the price and last longer but I could sit on the stove absolutely no heat.

    I bought 8 pallets in 2009 and have half a pallet left. I have moved it 8 times it must have cost more in diesel in the forklift than I made on selling it.

    I have some big bits of straight knot free pop 40" that are too big for my woodmizer 22" max. I thought about doing the same but just thought it mad especially with my chainsaw skills but seeing yours will give it a go.

    I use bricks if the burner is a bit lazy especially with this mild wet weather. a good cold snap I like nice dry beech. WE tried to sell bricks but it was dead round our way.

    I dont think the 200 tdi was out till 91. I had a G reg 1990 110 with the 19j engine. That was easily the worst diesel engine I have ever come across was glad to see the back of that.

    I have one that must be 10 years old bought it 5 years ago and cut 200 tonnes a year. Was a bit gutless until the first exhaust vibrated off then it flew. I replaced the exhaust about 2 years ago and that one has broken up as well but it flies now so its going to stay like that till it dies. Anyone else find the exhaust crack and break up or am I just not doing them up tight enough.

    If there is a dump valve on the turbo make sure its not seized a squirt of engine oil every few months on the rose joint works wonders. Check all the little hoses and manifolds for cracks.

    You could try panel wipe if not strong enough moving on to standard thinners but keep it away from the plastics. 5 litres about a fiver

    I look for the simple obvious things if that fails get a diagnostic done which always says you need to replace most of it costing £3000. Laugh and look for the simple obvious things now you have a few more clues.

    Useful thread to read I think I have 26 blades in my eco combi and was dreading the day I had to get a quote to sharpen. If I get a pic of my blades could someone give me an opinion on condition. seems to chip and shread ok but dont want to stress the machine with blunt blades.

    I agree on the speed. I used to own this timber trailer and when we hired this tractor in we had to programme the hydraulics down as the speed of the crane was too much. Great for working fast but the crane was always at full reach and thats alot of weight when it swings at 100 mph

    If its fitted with egr check they are not jammed.

    If you give a large company 30 days credit these days they see it as a green light to drag it out to 90 days. If you have plenty of work on ask for payment by return or proforma deposit say £500 on a final bill of £800. Supermarkets dont offer free credit but they take forever to pay their suppliers.

    I have a 5kw hunter which will take a 12" log but is happier on 6"as you can put 2 in either way round and you can get another on as the last burns out. We only supply the trade now with wholesale kindling which makes life easier as its all 6"

    We have been through the exact same thing several times. I bought a samoa pumped system with triggers that measure the volume. You can set it for 20 litres and walk away. The other advantage to your method is you always have nice new clean cans on site.

    Kicking my self as the week after I bought the mizer I was offered a Lucas for less than £2000 but it may have been small and old. Do they do different sizes and would I be best of with a big one. The ideal size boards are 10"x 2" . I spoke to fuelwood a few months ago and they had a used one for 8k

    I think quals backed up with some proper in depth experience equals the real deal. In my day job I come across alot of youngsters that have fast tracked themselves with certificates most survive but some have very curly hair some of the practices I have seen in the last few weeks during the storms beggars belief you only get one chance with 11,000 volts.
